Integrands of Less-Supersymmetric Yang-Mills at One Loop

We construct a prescriptive, bubble power-counting basis of one-loop integrands suitable for representing amplitude integrands in less-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. With the exception of massless bubbles, all integrands have unambiguous, leading singularities as coefficients defined in field theory; for the massless bubbles on external legs, we find two natural choices which lead to different integrands that highlight distinct aspects of field theory. For concreteness, we give the all-multiplicity integrands for MHV amplitudes, and the split-helicity amplitude integrand for six-particle NMHV. The basis we construct is mostly pure and is divided into to separately UV- and IR-finite sectors of fixed transcendental weight, resulting in UV- and IR-finite ratio functions of n-particle helicity amplitudes.

Illustrations of Integrand-Basis Building at Two Loops

We outline the concrete steps involved in building prescriptive master integrand bases for scattering amplitudes beyond the planar limit. We highlight the role of contour choices in such bases, and illustrate the full process by constructing a complete, triangle power-counting basis at two loops for six particles. We show how collinear contour choices can be used to divide integrand bases into separately finite and divergent subspaces, and how double-poles can be used to further subdivide these spaces according to (transcendental) weight. Complete details of the basis constructed for six particles is provided in the ancillary files for this work's submission to the arXiv.

Locally Finite Observables in sYM

A `locally-finite' observable is one for which there is no region of divergence anywhere in the space of real loop momenta; it can therefore be computed (in principle) without regularization. In this work, we prove that all two-loop ratio functions in planar, maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are locally-finite.

Prescriptive Unitarity with Elliptic Leading Singularities

We investigate the consequences of elliptic leading singularities for the unitarity-based representations of two-loop amplitudes in planar, maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We show that diagonalizing with respect to these leading singularities ensures that the integrand basis is term-wise pure (suitably generalized, to the elliptic multiple polylogarithms, as necessary). We also investigate an alternative strategy based on diagonalizing a basis of integrands on differential forms; this strategy, while neither term-wise Yangian-invariant nor pure, offers several advantages in terms of complexity.

Positive geometry, local triangulations, and the dual of the Amplituhedron

We initiate the systematic study of \emph{local positive spaces} which arise in the context of the Amplituhedron construction for scattering amplitudes in planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We show that all local positive spaces relevant for one-loop MHV amplitudes are characterized by certain sign-flip conditions and are associated with surprisingly simple logarithmic forms. In the maximal sign-flip case they are finite one-loop octagons. Particular combinations of sign-flip spaces can be glued into new local positive geometries. These correspond to local pentagon integrands that appear in the local expansion of the MHV one-loop amplitude. We show that, geometrically, these pentagons do \emph{not} triangulate the original Amplituhedron space but rather its twin "Amplituhedron-Prime." This new geometry has the same boundary structure as the Amplituhedron (and therefore the same logarithmic form) but differs in the bulk as a geometric space. On certain two-dimensional boundaries, where the Amplituhedron geometry reduces to a polygon, we check that both spaces map to the same dual polygon. Interestingly, we find that the pentagons internally triangulate that dual space. This gives a direct evidence that the chiral pentagons are natural building blocks for a yet-to-be discovered dual Amplituhedron.

Building Bases of Loop Integrands

We describe a systematic approach to the construction of loop-integrand bases at arbitrary loop-order, sufficient for the representation of general quantum field theories. We provide a graph-theoretic definition of `power-counting' for multi-loop integrands beyond the planar limit, and show how this can be used to organize bases according to ultraviolet behavior. This allows amplitude integrands to be constructed iteratively. We illustrate these ideas with concrete applications. In particular, we describe complete integrand bases at two loops sufficient to represent arbitrary-multiplicity amplitudes in four (or fewer) dimensions in any massless quantum field theory with the ultraviolet behavior of the Standard Model or better. We also comment on possible extensions of our framework to arbitrary (including regulated) numbers of dimensions, and to theories with arbitrary mass spectra and charges. At three loops, we describe a basis sufficient to capture all `leading-(transcendental-)weight' contributions of any four-dimensional quantum theory; for maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, this basis should be sufficient to represent all scattering amplitude integrands in the theory---for generic helicities and arbitrary multiplicity.

Positive Geometries for One-Loop Chiral Octagons

Inspired by the topological sign-flip definition of the Amplituhedron, we introduce similar, but distinct, positive geometries relevant for one-loop scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. The simplest geometries are those with the maximal number of sign flips, and turn out to be associated with chiral octagons previously studied in the context of infrared (IR) finite, pure and dual conformal invariant local integrals. Our result bridges two different themes of the modern amplitudes program: positive geometry and Feynman integrals.

Sign Flip Triangulations of the Amplituhedron

We present new triangulations of the $m=4$ amplituhedron relevant for scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills, obtained directly from the combinatorial definition of the geometry. Using the "sign flip" characterization of the amplituhedron, we reproduce the canonical forms for the all-multiplicity next-to-maximally helicity violating (NMHV) and next-to-next-to-maximally helicity violating ($\text{N}^2$MHV) tree-level as well as the NMHV one-loop cases, without using any input from traditional amplitudes methods. Our results provide strong evidence for the equivalence of the original definition of the amplituhedron \cite{Arkani-Hamed:2013jha} and the topological one \cite{Arkani-Hamed:2017vfh}, and suggest a new path forward for computing higher loop amplitudes geometrically. In particular, we realize the NMHV one-loop amplituhedron as the intersection of two amplituhedra of lower dimensionality, which is reflected in the novel structure of the corresponding canonical form.

Prescriptive Unitarity for Non-Planar Six-Particle Amplitudes at Two Loops

We extend the applications of prescriptive unitarity beyond the planar limit to provide local, polylogarithmic, integrand-level representations of six-particle MHV scattering amplitudes in both maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and gravity. The integrand basis we construct is diagonalized on a spanning set of non-vanishing leading singularities that ensures the manifest matching of all soft-collinear singularities in both theories. As a consequence, this integrand basis naturally splits into infrared-finite and infrared-divergent parts, with hints toward an integrand-level exponentiation of infrared divergences. Importantly, we use the same basis of integrands for both theories, so that the presence or absence of residues at infinite loop momentum becomes a feature detectable by inspecting the cuts of the theory. Complete details of our results are provided as ancillary files. This work has been updated to take into account the results of [arXiv:1911.09106], which leads to a simpler and more uniform representation of these amplitudes.

All-loop cuts from the Amplituhedron

The definition of the amplituhedron in terms of sign flips involves both one-loop constraints and the "mutual positivity" constraint. To gain an understanding of the all-loop integrand of $\mathcal{N}=4$ sYM requires understanding the crucial role played by mutual positivity. This paper is an attempt towards developing a procedure to introduce the complexities of mutual positivity in a systematic and controlled manner. As the first step in this procedure, we trivialize these constraints and understand the geometry underlying the remaining constraints to all loops and multiplicities. We present a host of configurations which correspond to various faces of the amplituhedron. The results we derive are valid at all multiplicities and loop orders for the maximally helicity violating (MHV) configurations. These include detailed derivations for the results in arXiv:1810.08208 [hep-th]. We conclude by indicating how one might move beyond trivial mutual positivity by presenting a series of configuration which re-introduce it bit by bit.

Cutting Deep Into The Amplituhedron

In this letter we compute a canonical set of cuts of the integrand for MHV amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM, where all internal propagators are put on-shell. These "deepest cuts" probe the most complicated Feynman diagrams and on-shell processes that can possibly contribute to the amplitude, but are also naturally associated with remarkably simple geometric facets of the amplituhedron. The recent reformulation of the amplituhedron in terms of combinatorial geometry directly in the kinematic (momentum-twistor) space plays a crucial role in understanding this geometry and determining the cut. This provides us with the first non-trivial results on scattering amplitudes in the theory valid for arbitrarily many loops and external particle multiplicities.
