One-Loop Renormalization of Spin-$1/2$ SOPHIES

In this paper, three formulations of spin-$1/2$ Second-Order Pseudo-Hermitian quantum field theorIES (SOPHIES) are built from scratch from parity eigenstates. Pseudo-Hermiticity allows the unconstrained fields to satisfy either Fermi--Dirac or Bose--Einstein statistics, while self-conjugate Majorana-like fields are only compatible with Fermi--Dirac. The set of independent four dimension renormalizable self-interactions of the three theories are identified, and the one-loop renormalization of the unconstrained fermionic and bosonic theories coupled to an abelian gauge boson and enhanced with a Pauli term and including self-interactions is studied, together with the one-loop renormalization of the only independent quartic self-interaction of self-conjugate fields. The analysis leads to a rich set of Renormalization Group Equations with deep connections to known theories, like the Dirac formalism and the Klein--Gordon scalar through the fixed points of the Pauli coupling.

SUSY meets pseudo-Hermiticity

In this work, we construct the simplest pseudo-Hermitian quantum field theory that is supersymmetric. This is the pseudo-Hermitian Wess-Zumino model in the sense that it contains a pair of symplectic fermions (anti-commuting scalar fields) that satisfy the Klein-Gordon equation and a spin-half boson that satisfies the Dirac equation. The conventional spin-statistics theorem is circumvented through the use of pseudo-Hermitian conjugation to define field adjoints. To make the supersymmetry manifest, we formulate the pseudo-Hermitian Wess-Zumino model using the superfield formalism. These superfields are Grassmann-odd so it is not possible to construct non-vanishing cubic interactions using only these superfields. We show that this problem can be resolved by coupling the pseudo-Hermitian Wess-Zumino model with the Hermitian Wess-Zumino model while preserving supersymmetry.

Two-loop neutrino mass model with modular $S_4$ symmetry

We propose a two-loop radiative neutrino mass model based on the modular $Γ_4 \simeq S_4$ flavour symmetry supplemented by a discrete $Z_3$ symmetry. After spontaneous modular symmetry breaking, a remnant $Z_2$ symmetry guarantees both the radiative origin of active neutrino masses and stabilizes dark matter candidates. The model successfully reproduces charged lepton masses and neutrino oscillation data for normal ordering. It also predicts observable rates for charged lepton flavour violation (LFV). Due to the singlet-doublet mixing the model provides a viable scalar dark matter candidate. A fermionic dark matter candidate, strongly linked to LFV, is also present. We identify parameter regions consistent with relic density, LFV constraints, and direct detection limits, providing testable benchmark configurations.

Dirac neutrinos and gauged lepton number

We propose the first scotogenic neutrino mass model with gauged lepton number $U(1)_L$, which is spontaneously broken by three units $ΔL=3$ down to a residual discrete gauge symmetry $\mathbb{Z}_6$. The latter guarantees that neutrinos acquire tiny Dirac masses via a one-loop scotogenic mechanism, simultaneously stabilizing the lightest electrically neutral particle with non-trivial charge under the preserved $\mathbb{Z}_6$ symmetry. In our model there is a scalar particle identified as weakly interacting massive particle dark matter (DM) candidate. We analyzed its compatibility with the existing data on direct DM detection experiments and the DM relic abundance. We also address charged lepton flavor violating decays in our model and find that their predicted rates are within the reach of current experimental sensitivity.

Bosonic Spin-1 SOPHY

In this work we study the canonical quantization of a second-order pseudo-Hermitian field theory for massive spin-1 bosons transforming under the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation of the restricted Lorentz Group and satisfying the Klein-Gordon equation.

Second-order pseudo-Hermitian spin-$1/2$ bosons

The canonical quantization of a field theory for spin-$1/2$ massive bosons that satisfy the Klein-Gordon equation is presented. The breakdown of the usual spin-statistics connection is due to the redefinition of the dual field, rendering the theory pseudo-Hermitian. The normal-ordered Hamiltonian is bounded from below with real eigenvalues, and the theory is consistent with microcausality and invariant under parity, charge conjugation and time reversal.

Renormalization of massless fields in the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation

We study the one-loop renormalization of self-interacting massless fields in the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation of the Restricted Lorentz Group. We work with a general model that represents the entire class of parity-invariant self-interacting massless theories that can be defined in this representation. It consists of a general free Lagrangian that reproduces the massless limit of three theories previously studied in the literature: the Joos-Weinberg, the Shay-Good/Hammer-McDonald-Pursey, and the Klein-Gordon-like one, as particular cases; along with an interacting Lagrangian containing all the independent dimension-4 parity-invariant self-interactions available in this representation. The model is found to be renormalizable.

Scotogenic dark matter from gauged $B-L$

We propose a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge extension to the SM, in which the dark sector is stabilized through a matter parity symmetry preserved after spontaneous symmetry breaking. The fermion spectrum includes three neutral right-handed fields with $B-L$ charges $(-4,-4, 5)$, that make the model free of gauge anomalies. Two of these neutral fermion fields serve as mediators in a scotogenic mechanism for light-active Majorana neutrino masses. The corresponding neutrino mass matrix has rank 2, predicting a massless state and a lower bound for neutrinoless double beta decay. Regions in the parameter space consistent with dark matter relic abundance are accomplished by the lightest neutral mediator.

Quantization of Second Order Fermions

The quantization of a massive spin $1/2$ field that satisfies the Klein-Gordon equation is studied. The framework is consistent, provided it is formulated as a pseudo-hermitian quantum field theory by the redefinition of the field dual and the identification of an operator that modifies the inner product of states in Hilbert space to preserve a real energy spectrum and unitary evolution. Since the fermion field has mass dimension one, the theory admits renormalizable fermion self-interactions.

Scotogenic majorana neutrino masses in a predictive orbifold theory of flavour

The use of extra space-time dimensions provides a promising approach to the flavour problem. The chosen compactification of a 6-dimensional orbifold implies a remnant family symmetry $A_4$. This makes interesting predictions for quark and lepton masses, for neutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double beta decay, providing also a very good global description of all flavour observables. Due to an auxiliary $\mathbb{Z}_4$ symmetry, we implement a scotogenic Majorana neutrino mass generation mechanism with a viable WIMP dark matter candidate.

Revamping Kaluza-Klein dark matter in an orbifold theory of flavor

We suggest a common origin for dark matter, neutrino mass and family symmetry within the orbifold theory proposed in [arXiv:1910.05605v2,arXiv:2004.06735v2]. Flavor physics is described by an $A_4$ family symmetry that results naturally from compactification. WIMP Dark matter emerges from the first Kaluza-Klein excitation of the same scalar that drives family symmetry breaking and neutrino masses through the inverse seesaw mechanism. In addition to the "golden" quark-lepton mass relation and neutrino predictions for $0νββ$ decay, the model provides a good global description of all flavor observables.

Scotogenic neutrino masses with gauged matter parity and gauge coupling unification

Building up on previous work we propose a Dark Matter (DM) model with gauged matter parity and dynamical gauge coupling unification, driven by the same physics responsible for scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Our construction is based on the extended gauge group \3311, whose spontaneous breaking leaves a residual conserved matter parity, $M_{P}$, stabilizing the DM particle candidates of the model. A key role is played by the Majorana ${\rm SU(3)_{L}}$-octet leptons, in allowing successful gauge coupling unification and one-loop scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Theoretical consistency allows for a \emph{plethora} of new particles at the $\lsim \mathcal{O}$(10) TeV scale, hence accessible to future collider and low-energy experiments.

Scotogenic dark matter in an orbifold theory of flavor

We propose a flavour theory in which the family symmetry results naturally from a six-dimensional orbifold compactification. "Diracness" of neutrinos is a consequence of the spacetime dimensionality, and the fact that right-handed neutrinos live in the bulk. Dark matter is incorporated in a scotogenic way, as a result of an auxiliary $\mathbb{Z}_3$ symmetry, and its stability is associated to the conservation of a "dark parity" symmetry. The model leads naturally to a "golden" quark-lepton mass relation.

Reloading the Axion in a 3-3-1 setup

We generalize the idea of the axion to an extended electroweak gauge symmetry setup. We propose a minimal axion extension of the Singer-Valle-Schechter (SVS) theory, in which the standard model fits in $\mathrm{SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X}$, the number of families results from anomaly cancellation, and the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) solution to the strong-CP problem is implemented. Neutrino masses arise from a type-I Dirac seesaw mechanism, suppressed by the ratio of SVS and PQ scales, suggesting the existence of new physics at a moderate SVS scale. Novel features include an enhanced axion coupling to photons when compared to the DFSZ axion, as well as flavour-changing axion couplings to quarks.

Simple theory for scotogenic dark matter with residual matter-parity

Dark matter stability can result from a residual matter-parity symmetry surviving spontaneous breaking of an extended gauge symmetry. We propose the simplest scotogenic dark matter completion of the original SVS theory (Phys.Rev. D22 (1980) 738), in which the "dark sector" particles as well as matter-parity find a natural theoretical origin in the model. We briefly comment on its main features.

Dark matter stability from Dirac neutrinos in scotogenic 3-3-1-1 theory

We propose the simplest TeV-scale scotogenic extension of the original 3-3-1 theory, where dark matter stability is linked to the Dirac nature of neutrinos, which results from an unbroken $B-L$ gauge symmetry. The new gauge bosons get masses through the interplay of spontaneous symmetry breaking à la Higgs and the Stueckelberg mechanism.

Scotogenic dark matter and Dirac neutrinos from unbroken gauged $B-L$ symmetry

We propose a simple extension of the standard model where neutrinos get naturally small "scotogenic" Dirac masses from an unbroken gauged $B-L$ symmetry, ensuring dark matter stability. The associated gauge boson gets mass through the Stueckelberg mechanism. Two scenarios are identified, and the resulting phenomenology briefly sketched.

Renormalization of a model for spin-1 matter fields

In this work, the one-loop renormalization of a theory for fields transforming in the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group is studied. The model includes an arbitrary gyromagnetic factor and self-interactions of the spin 1 field, which has mass dimension one. The model is shown to be renormalizable for any value of the gyromagnetic factor.
