Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error Correcting Codes From RS Codes and BCH Codes with Extension Degree 2

Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) constructed from Reed-Solomon codes and BCH codes are considered in this work. It is provided a complete and explicit formula for the parameters of EAQECCs coming from any Reed-Solomon code, for the Hermitian metric, and from any BCH code with extension degree $2$ and consecutive cyclotomic cosets, for both the Euclidean and the Hermitian metric. The main task in this work is the computation of a completely general formula for $c$, the minimum number of required maximally entangled quantum states.

Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes over arbitrary finite fields

We prove that the known formulae for computing the optimal number of maximally entangled pairs required for entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) over the binary field hold for codes over arbitrary finite fields as well. We also give a Gilbert-Varshamov bound for EAQECCs and constructions of EAQECCs coming from punctured self-orthogonal linear codes which are valid for any finite field.

Seshadri-type constants and Newton-Okounkov bodies for non-positive at infinity valuations of Hirzebruch surfaces

We consider flags $E_\bullet=\{X\supset E\supset \{q\}\}$, where $E$ is an exceptional divisor defining a non-positive at infinity divisorial valuation $ν_E$ of a Hirzebruch surface $\mathbb{F}_δ$ and $X$ the surface given by $ν_E,$ and determine an analogue of the Seshadri constant for pairs $(ν_E,D)$, $D$ being a big divisor on $\mathbb{F}_δ$. The main result is an explicit computation of the vertices of the Newton-Okounkov bodies of pairs $(E_\bullet,D)$ as above, showing that they are quadrilaterals or triangles and distinguishing one case from another.

Foliations with isolated singularities on Hirzebruch surfaces

We study foliations $\mathcal{F}$ on Hirzebruch surfaces $S_δ$ and prove that, similarly to those on the projective plane, any $\mathcal{F}$ can be represented by a bi-homogeneous polynomial affine $1$-form. In case $\mathcal{F}$ has isolated singularities, we show that, for $ δ=1 $, the singular scheme of $\mathcal{F}$ does determine the foliation, with some exceptions that we describe, as is the case of foliations in the projective plane. For $δ\neq 1$, we prove that the singular scheme of $\mathcal{F}$ does not determine the foliation. However we prove that, in most cases, two foliations $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{F}'$ given by sections $s$ and $s'$ have the same singular scheme if and only if $s'=Φ(s)$, for some global endomorphism $Φ$ of the tangent bundle of $S_δ$.

Locally recoverable $J$-affine variety codes

A locally recoverable (LRC) code is a code over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ such that any erased coordinate of a codeword can be recovered from a small number of other coordinates in that codeword. We construct LRC codes correcting more than one erasure, which are subfield-subcodes of some $J$-affine variety codes. For these LRC codes, we compute localities $(r, δ)$ that determine the minimum size of a set $\bar{R}$ of positions so that any $δ- 1$ erasures in $\bar{R}$ can be recovered from the remaining $r$ coordinates in this set. We also show that some of these LRC codes with lengths $n\gg q$ are $(δ-1)$-optimal.

Asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes and BCH codes

The concept of asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting code (asymmetric EAQECC) is introduced in this article. Codes of this type take advantage of the asymmetry in quantum errors since phase-shift errors are more probable than qudit-flip errors. Moreover, they use pre-shared entanglement between encoder and decoder to simplify the theory of quantum error correction and increase the communication capacity. Thus, asymmetric EAQECCs can be constructed from any pair of classical linear codes over an arbitrary field. Their parameters are described and a Gilbert-Varshamov bound is presented. Explicit parameters of asymmetric EAQECCs from BCH codes are computed and examples exceeding the introduced Gilbert-Varshamov bound are shown.

Discrete equivalence of non-positive at infinity plane valuations

Non-positive at infinity valuations are a class of real plane valuations which have a nice geometrical behavior. They are divided in three types. We study the dual graphs of non-positive at infinity valuations and give an algorithm for obtaining them. Moreover we compare these graphs attending the type of their corresponding valuation.

Non-positive and negative at infinity divisorial valuations of Hirzebruch surfaces

We consider rational surfaces $Z$ defined by divisorial valuations $ν$ of Hirzebruch surfaces. We introduce the concepts of non-positivity and negativity at infinity for these valuations and prove that these concepts admit nice local and global equivalent conditions. In particular we prove that, when $ν$ is non-positive at infinity, the extremal rays of the cone of curves of $Z$ can be explicitly given.

Quasi-Cyclic Constructions of Quantum Codes

We give sufficient conditions for self-orthogonality with respect to symplectic, Euclidean and Hermitian inner products of a wide family of quasi-cyclic codes of index two. We provide lower bounds for the symplectic weight and the minimum distance of the involved codes. Supported in the previous results, we show algebraic constructions of good quantum codes and determine their parameters.

Classical and Quantum Evaluation Codes at the Trace Roots

We introduce a new class of evaluation linear codes by evaluating polynomials at the roots of a suitable trace function. We give conditions for self-orthogonality of these codes and their subfield-subcodes with respect to the Hermitian inner product. They allow us to construct stabilizer quantum codes over several finite fields which substantially improve the codes in the literature and that are records at [http://www.codetables.de] for the binary case. Moreover, we obtain several classical linear codes over the field $\mathbb{F}_4$ which are records at [http://www.codetables.de].

New binary and ternary LCD codes

LCD codes are linear codes with important cryptographic applications. Recently, a method has been presented to transform any linear code into an LCD code with the same parameters when it is supported on a finite field with cardinality larger than 3. Hence, the study of LCD codes is mainly open for binary and ternary fields. Subfield-subcodes of $J$-affine variety codes are a generalization of BCH codes which have been successfully used for constructing good quantum codes. We describe binary and ternary LCD codes constructed as subfield-subcodes of $J$-affine variety codes and provide some new and good LCD codes coming from this construction.

Improved constructions of nested code pairs

Two new constructions of linear code pairs $C_2 \subset C_1$ are given for which the codimension and the relative minimum distances $M_1(C_1,C_2)$, $M_1(C_2^\perp,C_1^\perp)$ are good. By this we mean that for any two out of the three parameters the third parameter of the constructed code pair is large. Such pairs of nested codes are indispensable for the determination of good linear ramp secret sharing schemes [35]. They can also be used to ensure reliable communication over asymmetric quantum channels [47]. The new constructions result from carefully applying the Feng-Rao bounds [18,27] to a family of codes defined from multivariate polynomials and Cartesian product point sets.

Newton-Okounkov bodies of exceptional curve valuations

We prove that the Newton-Okounkov body of the flag $E_{\bullet}:= \left\{ X=X_r \supset E_r \supset \{q\} \right\}$, defined by the surface $X$ and the exceptional divisor $E_r$ given by any divisorial valuation of the complex projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$, with respect to the pull-back of the line-bundle $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^2} (1)$ is either a triangle or a quadrilateral, characterizing when it is a triangle or a quadrilateral. We also describe the vertices of that figure. Finally, we introduce a large family of flags for which we determine explicitly their Newton-Okounkov bodies which turn out to be triangular.

Minimal plane valuations

We consider the last value $\hatμ (ν)$ of the vanishing sequence of $H^0(L)$ along a divisorial or irrational valuation $ν$ centered at $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^2,p}$, where $L$ resp. $p$ is a line resp. a point of the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ over an algebraically closed field. This value contains, for valuations, similar information as that given by Seshadri constants for points. It is always true that $\hatμ (ν) \geq \sqrt{1 / \mathrm{vol}(ν)}$ and minimal valuations are those satisfying the equality. In this paper, we prove that the Greuel-Lossen-Shustin Conjecture implies a variation of the Nagata Conjecture involving minimal valuations (that extends the one stated in the paper "Very general monomial valuations of $\mathbb{P}^2$ and a Nagata type conjecture" by Dumnicki et al. to the whole set of divisorial and irrational valuations of the projective plane) which also implies the original one. We also provide infinitely many families of very general minimal valuations with an arbitrary number of Puiseux exponents, and an asymptotic result that can be considered as an evidence in the direction of the mentioned conjecture by Dumnicki et al.

On the distance of stabilizer quantum codes from $J$-affine variety codes

Self-orthogonal $J$-affine variety codes have been successfully used to obtain quantum stabilizer codes with excellent parameters. In a previous paper we gave formulae for the dimension of this family of quantum codes, but no bound for the minimum distance was given. In this work, we show how to derive quantum stabilizer codes with designed minimum distance from $J$-affine variety codes and their subfield-subcodes. Moreover, this allows us to obtain new quantum codes, some of them either, with better parameters, or with larger distances than the previously known codes.

New Quantum Codes from Evaluation and Matrix-Product Codes

Stabilizer codes obtained via CSS code construction and Steane's enlargement of subfield-subcodes and matrix-product codes coming from generalized Reed-Muller, hyperbolic and affine variety codes are studied. Stabilizer codes with good quantum parameters are supplied, in particular, some binary codes of lengths 127 and 128 improve the parameters of the codes in http://www.codetables.de. Moreover, non-binary codes are presented either with parameters better than or equal to the quantum codes obtained from BCH codes by La Guardia or with lengths that can not be reached by them.

Stabilizer quantum codes from $J$-affine variety codes and a new Steane-like enlargement

New stabilizer codes with parameters better than the ones available in the literature are provided in this work, in particular quantum codes with parameters $[[127,63, \geq 12]]_2$ and $[[63,45, \geq 6]]_4$ that are records. These codes are constructed with a new generalization of the Steane's enlargement procedure and by considering orthogonal subfield-subcodes --with respect to the Euclidean and Hermitian inner product-- of a new family of linear codes, the $J$-affine variety codes.

The cone of curves and the Cox ring of rational surfaces given by divisorial valuations

We consider surfaces $X$ defined by plane divisorial valuations $ν$ of the quotient field of the local ring $R$ at a closed point $p$ of the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ over an arbitrary algebraically closed field $k$ and centered at $R$. We prove that the regularity of the cone of curves of $X$ is equivalent to the fact that $ν$ is non positive on ${\mathcal O}_{\mathbb{P}^2}(\mathbb{P}^2\setminus L)$, where $L$ is a certain line containing $p$. Under these conditions, we characterize when the characteristic cone of $X$ is closed and its Cox ring finitely generated. Equivalent conditions to the fact that $ν$ is negative on ${\mathcal O}_{\mathbb{P}^2}(\mathbb{P}^2\setminus L) \setminus k$ are also given.
