Ultra-High-Energy Particle Production in Binary Mergers Endowed with Magnetic Fields

We study the production of ultra-high-energy particles via the Bañados--Silk--West (BSW) mechanism in the pre-merger phase of binary systems detected by LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA. By solving the geodesic equations for charged particles in magnetized Kerr spacetime with fields of $B \sim 10^{12}$--$10^{14}$~G, we demonstrate that collisions near the horizon can achieve center-of-mass energies $E_{\mathrm{cm}} \sim 10^{18}$-- $10^{20}$~eV, placing them firmly in the ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray (UHECR) range. We systematically explore the parameter space of merger remnants, varying black hole mass ($M \sim 20$--$150\,M_\odot$, characteristic of the binary black hole population), dimensionless spin ($χ_f \sim 0.7$--$0.9$), magnetic field strength, and particle angular momenta. Our analysis reveals three distinct acceleration regimes: a gravity-dominated regime ($B < 10^{12}$~G) with negligible magnetic enhancement; a transition regime ($10^{12}~\text{G} \lesssim B \lesssim 10^{13}~\text{G}$) where gravitational and magnetic effects compete; and a magnetic-dominated regime ($B > 10^{13}$~G) where fields amplify collision energies by nearly an order of magnitude. For the 34 gravitational-wave events with high remnant spins ($χ_f > 0.7$), we compute the maximum achievable energies, finding that systems with $χ_f \gtrsim 0.85$ and $M \gtrsim 100\,M_\odot$ can reach $E_{\mathrm{max}} \sim 10^{20}$~eV. Our results establish magnetized binary mergers, particularly black hole--neutron star systems and postmerger black hole remnants formed in binary neutron star coalescences, as promising sources of UHECRs and provide quantitative predictions linking gravitational-wave observables to particle acceleration efficiency.

Shadows and amplitude luminosity of an embedded rotating black hole

We investigate a rotating black hole embedded in a five-dimensional flat bulk by extending the Kerr metric through the Gurses-Gursey line element. Employing Boyer-Lindquist coordinates, we reinterpret the black hole as a charged-like object in five dimensions and analyze its horizon structure and shadow morphology. Our results reveal that the shadow is shaped by an axially symmetric gravitational field modulated by an extrinsic curvature term arising from the higher-dimensional embedding. Simulations demonstrate that the visibility amplitude and shadow profile of the Gurses-Gursey black hole align with Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87 in the Kerr limit, while also allowing measurable deviations that could be probed by future high-resolution experiments.

Multi-messenger particles as a probe for UHECR luminosity

Very-high energy (GeV-TeV) gamma rays in the universe suggest the presence of an accelerator in the source. Neutrinos and gamma rays are intriguing astrophysical messengers. Multi-messenger particle emission produced by interactions of cosmic rays with radiation fields and interstellar matter is a probe of luminosity of sources of cosmic rays with EeV energies, known as Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs). This work estimates the neutrino flux and suggests that gamma-ray emission is primarily caused by cosmic-ray interactions during propagation. As energy loss processes occur, secondary fluxes are generated, primarily by pion decay. We provide UHECR luminosity of galaxies from multi-messenger particles. These findings not only highlight the potential of certain galaxies as sources of UHECR, but also underscore the intricate interplay of various astrophysical processes within them. By understanding the luminosity patterns and multi-messenger particle emissions, we can gain valuable insights into the environmental conditions, acceleration mechanisms, and other intrinsic properties that position these galaxies as candidates for UHECR production.

A thin disk in higher dimensional space-time and dark matter interpretation

We find a family of exact solutions of Einstein equations describing the field of a static axisymmetric thin disk living in six-dimensional space-time. In particular, we study the disks constructed (by cutting out the central part of the spacetime) from the conventional Schwarzschild and Chazy-Curzon solutions with simple extensions in the extra 2 dimensions. The disks are interpreted in terms of two counter-rotating streams of particles on free circular orbits. Two extra parameters -- the constants of motion resulting from projections of the particle-velocities' extra components -- are constrained by the requirement that the orbits within the disk be stable. The requirement is met just in cases when the radial profile of the disk orbital speed fits the rotation curves of many spiral galaxies. It thus turns out that the effective modification of the gravity law by extra dimensions could explain the observed flatness of these curves equally well as the usually given dark-matter interpretation. In the second part of the paper we show that the inclusion of extra dimensions also leads to better fits of the gravitational-lensing data for galaxy clusters, without changing results obtained in solar-system scales. Finally, we discuss whether the effect of extra dimensions could also be translated as following from the occurrence of extra matter ("Kaluza-Klein particles"). A comment on possible properties of such particles and a chance to detect them at LHC is given in the appendix.

Anti-de Sitter curvature radius constrained by quasars in brane-world scenarios

This paper is intended to investigate the luminosity due to accretion of gas in supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in the center of quasars, using a brane-world scenario naturally endowed with extra dimensions, whereon theories formulated introduce corrections in the field equations at high energies. SMBHs possess the necessary highly energetic environment for the introduction of these corrections, which are shown to produce small deviations in all SMBH properties and, consequentely, corrections in the accretion theory that supports quasars radiative processes. The radiative flux observed from quasars indicates these deviations, from which the magnitude of the AdS$_5$ bulk curvature radius, and consequently the extra dimension compactification radius is estimated.

Extra dimensions in CERN LHC via mini-black holes: effective Kerr-Newman brane-world effects

We solve Einstein equations on the brane to derive the exact form of the braneworld-corrected perturbations in Kerr-Newman singularities, using Randall-Sundrum and Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali (ADD) models. It is a consequence of such models the possibility that Kerr-Newman mini-black holes can be produced in LHC. We use this approach to derive a normalized correction for the Schwarzschild Myers-Perry radius of a static $(4+n)$-dimensional mini-black hole, using more realistic approaches arising from Kerr-Newman mini-black hole analysis. Besides, we prove that there are four Kerr-Newman black hole horizons in braneworld scenario we use, although only the outer horizon is relevant in the physical measurable processes. Parton cross sections in LHC and Hawking temperature are also investigated as functions of Planck mass (in the LHC range 1-10 TeV), mini-black hole mass and the number of large extra dimensions in braneworld large extra-dimensional scenarios. In this case a more realistic brane effect-corrected formalism can achieve more precisely the effective extra-dimensional Planck mass and the number of large extra dimensions -- in Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model -- or the size of the warped extra dimension -- in Randall-Sundrum formalism.

Could the variation in quasar luminosity, due to extra dimension 3-brane in RS model, be measurable?

We propose an alternative theoretical approach showing how the existence of an extra dimension in RS model can estimate the correction in the Schwarzschild radius of black holes, and consequently its measurability in terms of the variation of quasar luminosity, which can be caused by a imprint of an extra dimension endowing the geometry of a brane-world scenario in an AdS_5 bulk. This paper is intended to investigate the variation of luminosity due to accretion of gas in black holes (BHs) in the center of quasars, besides also investigating the variation of luminosity in supermassive BHs by brane-world effects, using RS model.
