Scattering for the non-radial inhomogeneous Hartree equation with a potential

In this work, we consider the focusing generalized inhomogeneous Hartree equation with potential \[ i u_t + Δu - V(x)u + \left(I_γ * |x|^{-b}|u|^{p}\right)|x|^{-b}|u|^{p-2}u = 0, \] where $0<γ<3$ and $0<b<\frac{1+γ}{2}$. We prove scattering in the intercritical case for nonradial initial data, under a mass-potential condition that generalizes the usual mass-energy threshold. The main new points compared to previous works are the inhomogeneous weight $|x|^{-b}$ and the presence of a potential $V$, which lead us to study the perturbed operator $-Δ+ V$. Our proof follows the general strategy of Murphy, but we need to adapt several steps to deal with the weight and the potential. We use Tao's scattering criterion together with localized Morawetz estimates in this setting. As a preliminary step, we establish global well-posedness for small data, which, in the presence of $V$, requires careful analysis using appropriate admissible Strichartz pairs.

Global Dynamics of the Non-Radial Energy-Critical Inhomogeneous Biharmonic NLS

We investigate the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear biharmonic Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u + Δ^2 u - |x|^{-b}|u|^p u = 0 \quad \text{on } \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^N, \] in the energy-critical regime, $p = \frac{8 - 2b}{N - 4}$, and $5 \leq N < 12$. We focus on the challenging non-radial setting and establish global well-posedness and scattering under the subcritical assumption $ \sup_{t \in I} \|Δu(t)\|_{L^2} < \|ΔW\|_{L^2}, $ where $W$ denotes the ground state solution to the associated elliptic equation. In contrast to previous results in the homogeneous case ($b = 0$), which often rely on radial symmetry and conserved quantities, our analysis is carried out without symmetry assumptions and under a non-conserved quantity, the kinetic energy. The presence of spatial inhomogeneity combined with the fourth-order dispersive operator introduces substantial analytical challenges. To overcome these difficulties, we develop a refined concentration-compactness and rigidity framework, based on the Kenig-Merle approach \cite{KM}, but more directly inspired by recent work of Murphy and the first author \cite{CM} in the second-order inhomogeneous setting.

Scattering for the generalized Hartree equation with a potential

We consider the focusing generalized Hartree equation in $H^1(\R^3)$ with a potential, \begin{equation*} iu_t + Δu - V(x)u + (I_γ\ast |u|^p )|u|^{p-2} u=0, \end{equation*} where $I_γ= \frac{1}{|x|^{3-γ}}$, $p \geq 2$ and $γ< 3$. In this paper, we prove scattering for the generalized Hartree equation with a potential in the intercritical case assuming radial initial data. The novelty of our approach lies in the use of a general mass-potential condition, incorporating the potential V, which extends the standard mass-energy framework. To this end, we employ a simplified method inspired by Dodson and Murphy \cite{Dod-Mur}, based on Tao's scattering criteria and Morawetz estimates. This approach provides a more straightforward proof of scattering compared to the traditional concentration-compactness/rigidity method of Kenig and Merle \cite{KENIG}.

Dynamics of the non-radial energy-critical inhomogeneous NLS

We consider the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u + Δu + |x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0\qtq{on}\R\times\R^N, \] with $α=\tfrac{4-2b}{N-2}$, $N=\{3,4,5\}$ and $0<b\leq \min\Big\{\tfrac{6-N}{2},\tfrac{4}{N}$\Big\}. This paper establishes global well-posedness and scattering for the non-radial energy-critical case in $\dot{H}^1(\R^N)$. It extends the previous research by Murphy and the first author \cite{GM}, which focused on the case $(N,α,b)=(3,2,1)$. The novelty here, beyond considering higher dimensions, lies in our assumption of the condition $\sup_{t\in I}\|\nabla u(t)\|_{L^2}<\|\nabla Q\|_{L^2}$, which is weaker than the condition stated in \cite{Guzman}. Consequently, if a solution has energy and kinetic energy less than the ground state $Q$ at some point, then the solution is global and scatters. Moreover, we show scattering for the defocusing case. On the other hand, in this work, we also investigate the blow-up issue with nonradial data for $N\geq 3$ in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$. This implies that our result holds without classical assumptions such as spherically symmetric data or $|x|u_0 \in L^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$. \ \noindent Mathematics Subject Classification. 35A01, 35QA55, 35P25.

The energy-critical inhomogeneous generalized Hartree equation in 3D

The purpose of this work is to study the $3D$ energy-critical inhomogeneous generalized Hartree equation $$ i\pa_tu+Δu+|x|^{-b}(I_α\ast|\cdot|^{-b}|u|^{p})|u|^{p-2}u=0,\;\ x\in\R^3, $$ where $p=3+α-2b$. We establish global well-posedness and scattering below the ground state threshold with non-radial initial data in $\dot{H}^1$. To this end, we exploit the decay of the nonlinearity, which together with the Kenig-Merle roadmap, allows us to treat the non-radial case as the radial case. In this paper are introduced new techniques to overcome the challenges posed by the presence of the potential and the nonlocal nonlinear term of convolution type. In particular, we also show scattering for the classical generalized Hartree equation ($b=0$) assuming radial data. Additionally, in the defocusing case, we show scattering with general data. We believe that the ideas developed here are robust and can be applicable to other types of nonlinear Hartree equations. In the introduction, we discuss some open problems.

Scattering for the non-radial inhomogenous biharmonic NLS equation

We consider the focusing inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, \begin{equation} iu_t + Δ^2 u - |x|^{-b}|u|^αu=0 \end{equation} when $b > 0$ and $N \geq 5$. We first obtain a small data global result in $H^2$, which, in the five-dimensional case, improves a previous result from Pastor and the second author. In the sequel, we show the main result, scattering below the mass-energy threshold in the intercritical case, that is, $\frac{8-2b}{N} < α<\frac{8-2b}{N-4}$, without assuming radiality of the initial data. The proof combines the decay of the nonlinearity with Virial-Morawetz-type estimates to avoid the radial assumption, allowing for a much simpler proof than the Kenig-Merle roadmap.

Some remarks on the inhomogeneous biharmonic NLS equation

We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. In the subctritical case, we improve the global well-posedness result obtained in \cite{GUZPAS} for dimensions $N=5,6,7$ in the Sobolev space $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$. The fundamental tools to establish our results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem and the Hardy-Littlewood inequality. Results concerning the energy-critical case, that is, $α=\frac{8-2b}{N-4}$ are also reported. More precisely, we show well-posedness and a stability result with initial data in the critical space $\dot{H}^2$.

On the inhomogeneous NLS with inverse-square potential

We consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with inverse-square potential in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$ i u_t + \mathcal{L}_a u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0,\;\;\mathcal{L}_a=Δ-\frac{a}{|x|^2}, $$ where $λ=\pm1$, $α,b>0$ and $a>-\frac{(N-2)^2}{4}$. We first establish sufficient conditions for global existence and blow-up in $H^1_a(\mathbb{R}^N)$ for $λ=1$, using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type estimate. In the sequel, we study local and global well-posedness in $H^1_a(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in the $H^1$-subcritical case, applying the standard Strichartz estimates combined with the fixed point argument. The key to do that is to establish good estimates on the nonlinearity. Making use of these estimates, we also show a scattering criterion and construct a wave operator in $H^1_a(\mathbb{R}^N)$, for the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical case.

Global well-posedness and critical norm concentration for inhomogeneous biharmonic NLS

We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger (IBNLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $$i \partial_t u +Δ^2 u -|x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0,$$ where $σ>0$ and $b>0$. We first study the local well-posedness in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^2 $, for $N\geq 5$ and $0<s_c<2$, where $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{4-b}{2σ}$. Next, we established a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequality in order to obtain sufficient conditions for global existence of solutions in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^2$ with $0\leq s_c<2$. Finally, we study the phenomenon of $L^{σ_c}$-norm concentration for finite time blow up solutions with bounded $\dot H^{s_c}$-norm, where $σ_c=\frac{2Nσ}{4-b}$. Our main tool is the compact embedding of $\dot L^p\cap \dot H^2$ into a weighted $L^{2σ+2}$ space, which may be seen of independent interest.

Scattering below the ground state for the intercritical non-radial inhomogeneous NLS

We consider the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u + Δu + |x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0\quad\text{on}\quad\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^N, \] with $N\geq 2$, $0<b<\min\{\tfrac{N}{2},2\}$, and $\tfrac{4-2b}{N}<α<\tfrac{4-2b}{N-2}$. These constraints make the equation mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical. We extend the results of Farah-Guzmán and Miao-Murphy-Zheng and prove scattering below the ground state with general initial data.

On well-posedness and concentration of blow-up solutions for the intercritical inhomogeneous NLS equation

We consider the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$i \partial_t u +Δu + |x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0,$$ where $N\geq 2$ and $σ$, $b>0$. We first obtain a small data global result in $H^1$, which, in the two spatial dimensional case, improves the third author result in [22] on the range of $b$. For $N\geq 3$ and $\frac{2-b}{N}<σ<\frac{2-b}{N-2}$, we also study the local well posedness in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1 $, where $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{2-b}{2σ}$. Sufficient conditions for global existence of solutions in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$ are also established, using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type estimate. Finally, we study the $L^{σ_c}-$norm concentration phenomenon, where $σ_c=\frac{2Nσ}{2-b}$, for finite time blow-up solutions in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$ with bounded $\dot H^{s_c}-$norm. Our approach is based on the compact embedding of $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$ into a weighted $L^{2σ+2}$ space.

On the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation: local, global and stability results

We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (IBNLS) $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. We show local and global well-posedness in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in the $H^s$-subcritical case, with $s=0,2$. Moreover, we prove a stability result in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, in the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical case. The fundamental tools to prove these results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem.

Scattering for the radial focusing INLS equation in higher dimensions

We consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i u_t +Δu+|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $\frac{4-2b}{N}<α<\frac{4-2b}{N-2}$ (when $N=2$, $\frac{4-2b}{N}<α<\infty$) and $0<b<\min\{N/3,1\}$. For a radial initial data $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$ under a certain smallness condition we prove that the corresponding solution is global and scatters. The smallness condition is related to the ground state solution of $-Q+ΔQ+ |x|^{-b}|Q|^αQ=0$ and the critical Sobolev index $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{2-b}α$. This is an extension of the recent work \cite{paper2} by the same authors, where they consider the case $N=3$ and $α=2$. The proof is inspired by the concentration-compactness/rigidity method developed by Kenig-Merle \cite{KENIG} to study $H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$-critical problem and also Holmer-Roudenko \cite{HOLROU} in the case of $H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$-subcritical equations.

On well posedness for the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation

The purpose of this paper is to study well-posedness of the initial value problem (IVP) for the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation (INLS) $$ i u_t +Δu+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. We obtain local and global results for initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$, with $0\leq s\leq 1$. To this end, we use the contraction mapping principle based on the Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem.
