Depletion-limited Kerr solitons in singly-resonant optical parametric oscillators

We analyze the impact of pump depletion in the generation of cavity solitons in a singly-resonant parametrical oscillator that includes a $χ^{(3)}$ nonlinear section. We find an analytical expression that provides the soliton existence region using variational methods, study the efficiency of energy conversion, and compare it to a driven Kerr resonator modeled by the Lugiato-Lefever equation. At high walk-off, solitons in singly-resonant optical parametric oscillators are more efficient than those formed in a Kerr resonator driven through a linear coupler.

Efficient Type II Second Harmonic Generation in an Indium Gallium Phosphide on insulator wire waveguide aligned with a crystallographic axis

We theoretically and experimentally investigate type II second harmonic generation in III-V-on-insulator wire waveguides. We show that the propagation direction plays a crucial role and that longitudinal field components can be leveraged for robust and efficient conversion. We predict that the maximum theoretical conversion is larger than that of type I second harmonic generation for similar waveguide dimensions and reach an experimental conversion efficiency of 12 %/W, limited by the propagation loss.

Second Harmonic Generation Enabled by Longitudinal Electric Field Components in Photonic Wire Waveguides

We investigate type I second harmonic generation in III-V semiconductor wire waveguides aligned with a crystallographic axis. In this direction, because of the single nonzero tensor element of III-V semiconductors, only frequency conversion by mixing with the longitudinal components of the optical fields is allowed. We experimentally study the impact of the propagation direction on the conversion efficiency and confirm the role played by the longitudinal components through the excitation of an antisymmetric second harmonic higher order mode.

Full Vectorial Modeling of Second Harmonic Generation in III-V-on-insulator Nanowires

We model second harmonic generation in subwavelength III-V-on-insulator waveguides. The large index contrast induces strong longitudinal electric field components that play an important role in the nonlinear conversion. We show that many different waveguide dimensions are suitable for efficient conversion of a fundamental quasi-TE pump mode around the 1550 nm telecommunication wavelength to a higher-order second harmonic mode.

Fast and accurate modelling of nonlinear pulse propagation in graded-index multimode fibers

We develop a model for the description of nonlinear pulse propagation in multimode optical fibers with a parabolic refractive index profile. It consists in a 1+1D generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a periodic nonlinear coefficient, which can be solved in an extremely fast and efficient way. The model is able to quantitatively reproduce recently observed phenomena like geometric parametric instability and broadband dispersive wave emission. We envisage that our equation will represent a valuable tool for the study of spatiotemporal nonlinear dynamics in the growing field of multimode fiber optics.
