On the Commutant of Invertible Positive Operators

An important result due to Radjabalipour asserts that if ${A\in\BB(\H)}$ is an invertible positive operator and ${T\in\BB(\H)}$ is arbitrary, then the operator sequence $\{A^{-n}TA^n\}_{n\in\ZZ}$ is norm-bounded if and only if ${TA=AT}.$ Using the concept of spectral gaps, we show that if $A$ possesses a spectral gap and the sequence $\{A^{-n}TA^n\}_{n\in\ZZ}$ is norm-bounded, then $T$ must be block diagonal with respect to a certain orthogonal decomposition of $\H$. We also provide an alternative proof of Radjabalipour's theorem. We also extend the theorem to some rich classes of operators, including invertible normal operators and invertible weighted sums of projections. Moreover, we provide simple proofs for the fact that a positive definite matrix ${A\in\MM_N}$ is a positive multiple of the identity if and only if the sequence $\{A^{-n}TA^n\}_{n\in\ZZ}$ is norm-bounded for every~${T\in\MM_N}.$

Weak Supercyclicity -- An Expository Survey

This is an exposition on supercyclicity and weak supercyclicity, especially designed to advance further developments in weakly supercyclicity, which is a recent research field showing significant momentum during the past two decades. For operators on a normed space, the present paper explores the relationship among supercyclicity and three versions of weak supercyclicity, namely, weak l-sequential, weak sequential, and weak supercyclicities, and their connection with strong stability, weak stability, and weak quasistability. A survey of the literature on weak supercyclicity is followed by an analysis of the interplay between supercyclicity and strong stability, as well as between weak supercyclicity and weak stability. A description of the spectrum of weakly l-sequentially supercyclic operators is also given.

Restriction of Uniform Crossnorms

Consider the space $B[X\otimes_αY]$ of operators on the tensors product ${X\otimes_αY}$ of normed spaces $X$ and $Y$ equipped with a uniform crossnorm ${\|\cdot\|_α}$$.$ Take the induced uniform norm on $B[X\otimes_αY]$ and consider its restriction to the tensor product ${B[X]\otimes B[Y]}$ of the algebra of operators $B[X]$ and $B[Y].$ It is proved that such a restriction is a reasonable crossnorm on ${B[X]\otimes B[Y]}$.

Trace-Class and Nuclear Operators

This paper explores the long journey from projective tensor products of a pair of Banach spaces, passing through the definition of nuclear operators still on the realm of projective tensor products, to the of notion of trace-class operators on a Hilbert space, and shows how and why these concepts (nuclear and trace-class operators, that is) agree in the end.

Biisometric operators and biorthogonal sequences

It is shown that a pair of Hilbert space operators V and W such that V*W=I (called a biisometric pair) shares some common properties with unilateral shifts when orthonormal basis are replaced with biorthogonal sequences, and it is also shown how such a pair of biisometric operators yields a pair of biorthogonal sequences which are shifted by them. These are applied to a class of Laguerre operators on L2.
