Regularization of stochastic fluid dynamics and non-perturbative renormalization of the shear viscosity of incompressible fluids
We propose a regularization of stochastic fluid dynamics that preserves all relevant symmetries. By considering an incompressible fluid, we demonstrate explicitly that the regularized theory is UV finite, and therefore admits a continuum limit. Strikingly, the regularized theory of stochastic fluid dynamics is not only amenable to direct numerical simulations of the lattice discretized theory, but also to functional methods in the continuum. We exploit this to perform renormalization group improved perturbative calculations of the renormalization of the shear viscosity of an incompressible fluid in two and three spatial dimensions, and compare our results to direct numerical simulations of the lattice discretized theory.
