In this note we explore rational approximations to irrational numbers whose denominators are restricted to a subset of the natural numbers. We introduce a specific notion of density for such subsets and use it to establish a restricted analog of a theorem of Dirichlet's.
Using Abel's five-term relation, we derive a new two-parameter series identity for the Rogers dilogarithm. By specializing this identity, we obtain dilogarithm series involving Lucas sequences. These results generalize certain series identities of Bridgeman related to solutions of Pell's equations, which were obtained via a completely different approach.
In this work, series expansions in terms of Bessel functions of the first kind are given for the sine and cosine integrals. These representations differ from many of the known Neumann-type series expansions for the sine and cosine integrals, which contain non-integer order or quadratic Bessel function terms. In addition, using the theory of Euler sums we are able to obtain some closed form evaluations of integrals involving Bessel functions and the sine and cosine integrals.
In this note, infinite series involving Fibonacci and Lucas numbers are derived by employing formulae similar to that which Roger Apéry utilized in his seminal paper proving the irrationality of $ζ(3)$.
