Yangian symmetry and bound states in AdS/CFT boundary scattering

We consider the problem of boundary scattering for Y=0 maximal giant graviton branes. We show that the boundary S-matrix for the fundamental excitations has a Yangian symmetry. We then exploit this symmetry to determine the boundary S-matrix for two-particle bound states. We verify that this boundary S-matrix satisfies the boundary Yang-Baxter equations.

Dark Energy Properties in DBI Theory

The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action from string theory provides several new classes of dark energy behavior beyond quintessence due to its relativistic kinematics. We constrain parameters of natural potentials and brane tensions with cosmological observations as well as showing how to design these functions for a desired expansion history. We enlarge the attractor solutions, including new ways of obtaining cosmological constant behavior, to the case of generalized DBI theory with multiple branes. An interesting novel signature of DBI attractors is that the sound speed is driven to zero, unlike for quintessence where it is the speed of light.

On the absence of reflection in AdS4/CFT3

A noteworthy feature of the S-matrix which has been proposed for AdS4/CFT3 is that the scattering of an A-particle ("soliton") with a B-particle ("antisoliton") is reflectionless. We argue, following Zamolodchikov, that the absence of reflection is a result of the existence of certain local conserved charges which act differently on the two types of particles.

Cosmological Constant Behavior in DBI Theory

Cosmological constant behavior can be realized as solutions of the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action within Type IIB string theory and the AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive a family of attractor solutions to the cosmological constant that arise purely from the "relativistic" nature of the DBI action without an explicit false vacuum energy. We also find attractor solutions with values of the equation of state near but with $w\ne-1$; the forms for the potential arising from flux interactions are renormalizable and natural, and the D3-brane tension can be given by the standard throat form. We discuss present and future observational constraints on the theory.

An alternative S-matrix for N=6 Chern-Simons theory ?

We have recently proposed an S-matrix for the planar limit of the N=6 superconformal Chern-Simons theory of Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis and Maldacena which leads to the all-loop Bethe ansatz equations conjectured by Gromov and Vieira. An unusual feature of this proposal is that the scattering of A and B particles is reflectionless. We consider here an alternative S-matrix, for which A-B scattering is not reflectionless. We argue that this S-matrix does not lead to the Bethe ansatz equations which are consistent with perturbative computations.

Two-loop test of the N=6 Chern-Simons theory S-matrix

Starting from the integrable two-loop spin-chain Hamiltonian describing the anomalous dimensions of scalar operators in the planar N=6 superconformal Chern-Simons theory of ABJM, we perform a direct coordinate Bethe ansatz computation of the corresponding two-loop S-matrix. The result matches with the weak-coupling limit of the scalar sector of the all-loop S-matrix which we have recently proposed. In particular, we confirm that the scattering of A and B particles is reflectionless. As a warm up, we first review the analogous computation of the one-loop S-matrix from the one-loop dilatation operator for the scalar sector of planar N=4 superconformal Yang-Mills theory, and compare the result with the all-loop SU(2|2)^{2} S-matrix.

M2-brane Perspective on N=6 Super Chern-Simons Theory at Level k

Recently, O. Aharony, O. Bergman, D. L. Jafferis and J. Maldacena (ABJM) proposed three-dimensional super Chern-Simons-matter theory, which at level k is supposed to describe the low energy limit of N M2-branes. For large N and k, but fixed 't Hooft coupling λ=N/k, it is dual to type IIA string theory on AdS_4 x CP^3. For large N but finite k, it is dual to M theory on AdS_4 x S^7/Z_k. In this paper, relying on the second duality, we find exact giant magnon and single spike solutions of membrane configurations on AdS_4 x S^7/Z_k by reducing the system to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable model. We derive the dispersion relations and their finite-size corrections with explicit dependence on the level k.

Finite-size Effect of the Dyonic Giant Magnons in N=6 super Chern-Simons Theory

We consider finite-size effects for the dyonic giant magnon of the type IIA string theory on AdS_4 x CP^3 by applying Luscher mu-term formula which is derived from a recently proposed S-matrix for the N=6 super Chern-Simons theory. We compute explicitly the effect for the case of a symmetric configuration where the two external bound states, each of A and B particles, have the same momentum p and spin J_2. We compare this with the classical string theory result which we computed by reducing it to the Neumann-Rosochatius system. The two results match perfectly.

Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system for strings on AdS_4 x CP^3

We use the reduction of the string dynamics on AdS_4 x CP^3 to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. All constraints can be expressed simply in terms of a few parameters. We analyze the giant magnon and single spike solutions on R_t x CP^3 with two angular momenta in detail and find the energy-charge relations. The finite-size effects of the giant magnon and single spike solutions are analyzed.

Finite-size Effects for Single Spike

We use the reduction of the string dynamics on R_t x S^3 to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system to map all string solutions described by this dynamical system onto solutions of the complex sine-Gordon integrable model. This mapping relates the parameters in the solutions on both sides of the correspondence. In the framework of this approach, we find finite-size string solutions, their images in the (complex) sine-Gordon system, and the leading finite-size effects of the single spike "E-Δϕ" relation for both R_t x S^2 and R_t x S^3 cases.

N=6 super Chern-Simons theory S-matrix and all-loop Bethe ansatz equations

We propose the exact S-matrix for the planar limit of the N=6 super Chern-Simons theory recently proposed by Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis, and Maldacena for the AdS_4/CFT_3 correspondence. Assuming SU(2|2) symmetry, factorizability and certain crossing-unitarity relations, we find the S-matrix including the dressing phase. We use this S-matrix to formulate the asymptotic Bethe ansatz. Our result for the Bethe-Yang equations and corresponding Bethe ansatz equations confirms the all-loop Bethe ansatz equations recently conjectured by Gromov and Vieira.

Finite-size effects of Membranes on AdS_4 x S_7

We consider semi-classical solution of membranes on the AdS_4 x S^7. This is supposed to be dual to the N=6 super Chern-Simons theory with k=1 in a planar limit recently proposed by Aharony, Bergmann, Jafferis, and Maldacena (ABJM). We have identified giant magnon and single spike states on the membrane by reducing them to the Neumamm - Rosochatius integrable system. We also connect these to the complex sine-Gordon integrable model. Based on this approach, we find finite-size membrane solutions and obtain their images in the complex sine-Gordon system along with the leading finite-size corrections to the energy-charge relations.

The Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra for open strings attached to giant gravitons

We extend the Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra for the superstring sigma model on $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$, which was formulated by Arutyunov, Frolov and Zamaklar, to the case of open strings attached to maximal giant gravitons, which was recently considered by Hofman and Maldacena. We obtain boundary $S$-matrices which satisfy the standard boundary Yang-Baxter equation.

Reflecting Magnon Bound States

In N=4 super Yang-Mills spin chain, we compute reflection amplitudes of magnon bound-state off giant graviton. We first compute the reflection amplitude off Y=0 brane boundary and compare it with the scattering amplitude between two magnon bound-states in the bulk. We find that analytic structure of the two amplitudes are intimately related each other: the boundary reflection amplitude is a square-root of the bulk scattering amplitude. Using such relation as a guide and taking known results at weak and strong coupling limits as inputs, we find the reflection amplitude of an elementary magnon off Z=0 giant graviton boundary. The reflection phase factor is shown to solve crossing and unitarity relations. We then compute the reflection amplitude of magnon bound-state off the Z=0 brane boundary and observe that its analytic structures are again intimately related to the bulk scattering and the Y=0 boundary reflection amplitudes. We also take dyonic giant magnon limit of these reflection amplitudes and confirm that their phase-shifts agree completely with string worldsheet computations based on complex sine-Gordon soliton scattering.

The QCD spin chain S matrix

Beisert et al. have identified an integrable SU(2,2) quantum spin chain which gives the one-loop anomalous dimensions of certain operators in large N QCD. We derive a set of nonlinear integral equations (NLIEs) for this model, and compute the scattering matrix of the various (in particular, magnon) excitations.

NLIE of Dirichlet sine-Gordon Model for Boundary Bound States

We investigate boundary bound states of sine-Gordon model on the finite-size strip with Dirichlet boundary conditions. For the purpose we derive the nonlinear integral equation (NLIE) for the boundary excited states from the Bethe ansatz equation of the inhomogeneous XXZ spin 1/2 chain with boundary imaginary roots discovered by Saleur and Skorik. Taking a large volume (IR) limit we calculate boundary energies, boundary reflection factors and boundary Luscher corrections and compare with the excited boundary states of the Dirichlet sine-Gordon model first considered by Dorey and Mattsson. We also consider the short distance limit and relate the IR scattering data with that of the UV conformal field theory.

Finite size effects in the spin-1 XXZ and supersymmetric sine-Gordon models with Dirichlet boundary conditions

Starting from the Bethe Ansatz solution of the open integrable spin-1 XXZ quantum spin chain with diagonal boundary terms, we derive a set of nonlinear integral equations (NLIEs), which we propose to describe the boundary supersymmetric sine-Gordon model BSSG${}^{+}$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a finite interval. We compute the corresponding boundary $S$ matrix, and find that it coincides with the one proposed by Bajnok, Palla and Takács for the Dirichlet BSSG${}^{+}$ model. We derive a relation between the (UV) parameters in the boundary conditions and the (IR) parameters in the boundary $S$ matrix. By computing the boundary vacuum energy, we determine a previously unknown parameter in the scattering theory. We solve the NLIEs numerically for intermediate values of the interval length, and find agreement with our analytical result for the effective central charge in the UV limit and with boundary conformal perturbation theory.

Deformed Type 0A Matrix Model and Super-Liouville Theory for Fermionic Black Holes

We consider a ${\hat c}=1$ model in the fermionic black hole background. For this purpose we consider a model which contains both the N=1 and the N=2 super-Liouville interactions. We propose that this model is dual to a recently proposed type 0A matrix quantum mechanics model with vortex deformations. We support our conjecture by showing that non-perturbative corrections to the free energy computed by both the matrix model and the super-Liouville theories agree exactly by treating the N=2 interaction as a small perturbation. We also show that a two-point function on sphere calculated from the deformed type 0A matrix model is consistent with that of the N=2 super-Liouville theory when the N=1 interaction becomes small. This duality between the matrix model and super-Liouville theories leads to a conjecture for arbitrary $n$-point correlation functions of the N=1 super-Liouville theory on the sphere.
