Holographic RG flow triggered by a classically marginal operator

We study the holographic renormalization group (RG) flow triggered by a classically marginal operator. When a marginal operator deforms a conformal field theory, it does not yield a nontrivial renormalization group flow at the classical level. At the quantum level, however, quantum corrections modify a marginal operator into one of the truly marginal, marginally relevant, and marginally irrelevant operators and can generate a nontrivial RG flow. We investigate the holographic description of a RG flow triggered by a marginal operator with quantum corrections. We look into how the physical quantities of a deformed theory, a coupling constant and the vacuum expectation value, rely on the RG scale. We further discuss the holographic description of the trace anomaly caused by the gluon condensation.

Finite size effect on quantum correlations

We holographically study the finite-size scaling effects on macroscopic and microscopic quantum correlations deformed by excitation and condensation. The excitation (condensation) increases (decreases) the entanglement entropy of the system. We also investigate the two-point correlation function of local operators by calculating the geodesic length connecting two local operators. As opposed to the entanglement entropy case, the excitation (condensation) decreases (increases) the two-point function. This is because the screening effect becomes strong in the background with the large entanglement entropy. We further show that the holographic renormalization leads to the qualitatively same two-point function as the one obtained from the geodesic length.

Time Evolution of Entanglement Entropy in Holographic FLRW Cosmologies

To understand the time-dependent quantum correlation in expanding universes, we study the time-dependent entanglement entropy in the braneworld model. If we take into account a generalized string cloud geometry caused by uniformly distributed open strings, cosmologies on the braneworld result in the standard Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmologies with various matter contents. On the dual field theory side, open strings are reinterpreted as a fundamental matter, while the black hole mass corresponds to the excitation energy of massless gauge bosons. In this work, we show how the string cloud geometry is matched to various braneworld cosmologie,s for example, eternal inflation, radiation-, and matter-dominated universes. Then, we investigate how the entanglement entropy evolves in those expanding universes.

Exotic RG Flow of Entanglement Entropy

In this paper, we holographically study the renormalization group (RG) flow in a three-dimensional Einstein-dilaton gravity with a potential permitting several types of the RG flow with nontrivial beta-functions. By using the intrinsic parameter of the potential, we classify possible holographic RG flows and examine their physical features. Using the Ryu-Takayanagi formulation, furthermore, we investigate how the $c$-function of the entanglement entropy behaves along the RG flow numerically. We show that the entanglement $c$-function monotonically decreases even in the cases with a nontrivial beta-function. For checking the consistency, we also compare the result of the entanglement entropy with the $c$-function derived from the holographic renormalization procedure.

Holographic Approach to Entanglement Entropy in Disordered Systems

We investigate the entanglement entropy of a two-dimensional disordered system holographically. In particular, we study the evolution of the entanglement entropy along renormalization group flows for a conformal theory at the UV fixed point, that is perturbed by weak disorder into a Lifshitz theory at the IR fixed point. Through numerical fitting, we find that the disorder correlations leads to a sub-leading power-law term in the entanglement entropy that vanishes at the IR fixed point. Interestingly, the exponent that controls the power-law vanishing of the sub-leading term seems to be almost universal as it depends very weakly on the strength of the disorder. We show that our results can be put in the context of the c-theorem by defining an effective central charge that decreases along the RG flow. We also investigate disorder induced long-range correlations between the two subsystems by studying the holographic mutual information.

A non-perturbative field theory approach for the Kondo effect: Emergence of an extra dimension and its implication for the holographic duality conjecture

Implementing Wilsonian renormalization group transformations in an iterative way, we develop a non-perturbative field theoretical framework, which takes into account all-loop quantum corrections organized in the $1/N$ expansion, where $N$ represents the flavor number of quantum fields. The resulting classical field theory is given by an effective Landau-Ginzburg theory for a local order parameter field, which appears in one-dimensional higher spacetime. We claim that such all-loop quantum corrections are introduced into an equation of motion for the order parameter field through the evolution in the emergent extra dimension. Based on this non-perturbative theoretical framework, we solve the Kondo effect, where the quantum mechanics problem in the projective formulation is mapped into a Landau-Ginzburg field theory for the hybridization order parameter field with an emergent extra dimension. We confirm the non-perturbative nature of this field theoretical framework. Intriguingly, we show that the Wilsonian renormalization group method can explain non-perturbative thermodynamic properties of an impurity consistent with the Bethe ansatz solutions. Finally, we speculate how our non-perturbative field theoretical framework can be connected with the AdS$_{d+2}$/CFT$_{d+1}$ duality conjecture.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy with Momentum Relaxation

We studied the holographic entanglement entropy for a strip and sharp wedge entangling regions in momentum relaxation systems. In the case of strips, we found analytic and numerical results for the entanglement entropy and showed the effect on the minimal surface by the electric field. We also studied the entanglement entropy of wedges and confirmed that there is a linear change in the electric field. This change is proportional to the thermoelectric conductivity, $\barα$, that can be measured.

Holographic renormalization group flow from UV to IR

We construct a three-dimensional geometry interpolating two different AdS spaces. From the dual quantum field theory viewpoint, it corresponds to a nontrivial renormalization group flow from a UV to another IR conformal field theory. On this geometry, we discuss the change of the central charge in a momentum-space and real-space renormalization group flow. The result shows in both renormalization prescriptions that the central charge monotonically decreases along the renormalization group flow.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy in Cutoff AdS

We investigate the holographic entanglement entropy of deformed conformal field theories which are dual to a cutoff AdS space. The holographic entanglement entropy evaluated on a three-dimensional Poincare AdS space with a finite cutoff can be reinterpreted as that of the dual field theory deformed by either a boost or $T \bar{T}$ deformation. For the boost case, we show that, although it trivially acts on the underlying theory, it nontrivially affects the entanglement entropy due to the length contraction. For a three-dimensional AdS, we show that the effect of the boost transformation can be reinterpreted as the rescaling of the energy scale, similar to the $T \bar{T}$ deformation. Under the boost and $T \bar{T}$ deformation, the $c$-function of the entanglement entropy exactly shows the features expected by the Zamoldchikov's $c$-theorem. The deformed theory is always stationary at a UV fixed point and monotonically flows to another CFT in the IR fixed point. We also show that the holographic entanglement entropy in a Poincare cutoff AdS space can reproduce the exact same result of the $T \bar{T}$ deformed theory on a two-dimensional sphere.

c-theorem of the entanglement entropy

We holographically investigate the renormalization group flow in a two-dimensional conformal field theory deformed by a relevant operator. If the relevant operator allows another fixed point, the UV conformal field theory smoothly flows to a new IR conformal field theory. From the holographic point of view, such a renormalization group flow can be realized as a dual geometry interpolating two different AdS boundaries. On this interpolating geometry, we investigate how the c-function of the entanglement entropy behaves along the RG flow analyt- ically and numerically, which reproduces the expected central charges of UV and IR. We also show that the c-function monotonically decreases from UV to IR without any phase transition.

Quantum entanglement in inflationary cosmology

We investigate the holographic quantum entanglement of a visible universe in an inflationary cosmology. To do so, we consider an AdS space with a dS boundary which represents an expanding space in time. In an inflationary cosmology, there exists a natural entangling surface called a cosmic event horizon which divides a universe into visible and invisible parts. In this model, cosmic event horizon monotonically decreases and approaches a constant value proportional to the inverse of Hubble constant. We show that the quantum entanglement between the visible and invisible universes divided by cosmic event horizon decreases monotonically in time. After an infinite time evolution, it finally approaches a constant value which is proportional to the inverse square of the Hubble constant for a four-dimensional dS space.

Rindler Fluid with Weak Momentum Relaxation

We realize the weak momentum relaxation in Rindler fluid, which lives on the time-like cutoff surface in an accelerating frame of flat spacetime. The translational invariance is broken by massless scalar fields with weak strength. Both of the Ward identity and the momentum relaxation rate of Rindler fluid are obtained, with higher order correction in terms of the strength of momentum relaxation. The Rindler fluid with momentum relaxation could also be approached through the near horizon limit of cutoff AdS fluid with momentum relaxation, which lives on a finite time-like cutoff surface in Anti-de Sitter(AdS) spacetime, and further could be connected with the holographic conformal fluid living on AdS boundary at infinity. Thus, in the holographic Wilson renormalization group flow of the fluid/gravity correspondence with momentum relaxation, the Rindler fluid can be considered as the Infrared Radiation(IR) fixed point, and the holographic conformal fluid plays the role of the ultraviolet(UV) fixed point.

Small Fermi Surfaces and Strong Correlation Effects in Dirac Materials with Holography

Recent discovery of transport anomaly in graphene demonstrated that a system known to be weakly interacting may become strongly correlated if system parameter(s) can be tuned such that fermi surface is sufficiently small. We study the strong correlation effects in the transport coefficients of Dirac materials doped with magnetic impurity under the magnetic field using holographic method. The experimental data of magneto-conductivity are well fit by our theory, however, not much data are available for other transports of Dirac material in such regime. Therefore, our results on heat transport,thermo-electric power and Nernst coefficients are left as predictions of holographic theory for generic Dirac materials in the vicinity of charge neutral point with possible surface gap. We give detailed look over each magneto-transport observable and 3Dplots to guide future experiments.

Quantum stability of non-linear wave type solutions with intrinsic mass parameter in QCD

The problem of existence of a stable vacuum field in a pure quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is revised. Our approach is based on using classical stationary non-linear wave type solutions with intrinsic mass scale parameter. Such solutions can be treated as quantum mechanical wave functions describing massive spinless states in quantum theory. We verify whether non-linear wave type solutions can form a stable vacuum field background within the framework of effective action formalism. We demonstrate that there is a special class of stationary generalized Wu-Yang monopole solutions which are stable against quantum gluon fluctuations.

An emergent geometric description for a topological phase transition in the Kitaev superconductor model

Resorting to Wilsonian renormalization group (RG) transformations, we propose an emergent geometric description for a topological phase transition in the Kitaev superconductor model. An effective field theory consists of an emergent bulk action with an extra dimension, an ultraviolet (UV) boundary condition for an initial value of a coupling function, and an infrared (IR) effective action with a fully renormalized coupling function. The bulk action describes the evolution of the coupling function along the direction of the extra dimension, where the extra dimension is identified with an RG scale and the resulting equation of motion is nothing but a $β-$function. In particular, the IR effective field theory turns out to be consistent with a Callan-Symanzik equation which takes into account both the bulk and IR boundary contributions. This derived Callan-Symanzik equation gives rise to a metric structure. Based on this emergent metric tensor, we uncover the equivalence of the entanglement entropy between the emergent geometric description and the quantum field theory in the vicinity of the quantum critical point.

Nucleon Form Factors in Nuclear Medium

By using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate various form factors between nucleons and mesons in a nuclear medium. In order to describe a nuclear medium holographically, we take into account the thermal charged AdS geometry with an appropriate IR cutoff. After introducing an anomalous dimension as a free parameter, we investigate how the nucleon's mass is affected by the change of the anomalous dimension. Moreover, we study how the form factors of nucleons rely on the properties of the nuclear medium. We show that in a nuclear medium with different numbers of proton and neutron, the degenerated nucleon form factor in the vacuum is split to four different values depending on the isospin charges of nucleon and meson.
