DSFNet: Learning Disentangled Scenario Factorization for Multi-Scenario Route Ranking

Multi-scenario route ranking (MSRR) is crucial in many industrial mapping systems. However, the industrial community mainly adopts interactive interfaces to encourage users to select pre-defined scenarios, which may hinder the downstream ranking performance. In addition, in the academic community, the multi-scenario ranking works only come from other fields, and there are no works specifically focusing on route data due to lacking a publicly available MSRR dataset. Moreover, all the existing multi-scenario works still fail to address the three specific challenges of MSRR simultaneously, i.e. explosion of scenario number, high entanglement, and high-capacity demand. Different from the prior, to address MSRR, our key idea is to factorize the complicated scenario in route ranking into several disentangled factor scenario patterns. Accordingly, we propose a novel method, Disentangled Scenario Factorization Network (DSFNet), which flexibly composes scenario-dependent parameters based on a high-capacity multi-factor-scenario-branch structure. Then, a novel regularization is proposed to induce the disentanglement of factor scenarios. Furthermore, two extra novel techniques, i.e. scenario-aware batch normalization and scenario-aware feature filtering, are developed to improve the network awareness of scenario representation. Additionally, to facilitate MSRR research in the academic community, we propose MSDR, the first large-scale publicly available annotated industrial Multi-Scenario Driving Route dataset. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our DSFNet, which has been successfully deployed in AMap to serve the major online traffic.

TopoTxR: A topology-guided deep convolutional network for breast parenchyma learning on DCE-MRIs

Characterization of breast parenchyma in dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is a challenging task owing to the complexity of underlying tissue structures. Existing quantitative approaches, like radiomics and deep learning models, lack explicit quantification of intricate and subtle parenchymal structures, including fibroglandular tissue. To address this, we propose a novel topological approach that explicitly extracts multi-scale topological structures to better approximate breast parenchymal structures, and then incorporates these structures into a deep-learning-based prediction model via an attention mechanism. Our topology-informed deep learning model, \emph{TopoTxR}, leverages topology to provide enhanced insights into tissues critical for disease pathophysiology and treatment response. We empirically validate \emph{TopoTxR} using the VICTRE phantom breast dataset, showing that the topological structures extracted by our model effectively approximate the breast parenchymal structures. We further demonstrate \emph{TopoTxR}'s efficacy in predicting response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Our qualitative and quantitative analyses suggest differential topological behavior of breast tissue in treatment-naïve imaging, in patients who respond favorably to therapy as achieving pathological complete response (pCR) versus those who do not. In a comparative analysis with several baselines on the publicly available I-SPY 1 dataset (N=161, including 47 patients with pCR and 114 without) and the Rutgers proprietary dataset (N=120, with 69 patients achieving pCR and 51 not), \emph{TopoTxR} demonstrates a notable improvement, achieving a 2.6\% increase in accuracy and a 4.6\% enhancement in AUC compared to the state-of-the-art method.

MultiPull: Detailing Signed Distance Functions by Pulling Multi-Level Queries at Multi-Step

Reconstructing a continuous surface from a raw 3D point cloud is a challenging task. Recent methods usually train neural networks to overfit on single point clouds to infer signed distance functions (SDFs). However, neural networks tend to smooth local details due to the lack of ground truth signed distances or normals, which limits the performance of overfitting-based methods in reconstruction tasks. To resolve this issue, we propose a novel method, named MultiPull, to learn multi-scale implicit fields from raw point clouds by optimizing accurate SDFs from coarse to fine. We achieve this by mapping 3D query points into a set of frequency features, which makes it possible to leverage multi-level features during optimization. Meanwhile, we introduce optimization constraints from the perspective of spatial distance and normal consistency, which play a key role in point cloud reconstruction based on multi-scale optimization strategies. Our experiments on widely used object and scene benchmarks demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in surface reconstruction.

Rethinking Out-of-Distribution Detection on Imbalanced Data Distribution

Detecting and rejecting unknown out-of-distribution (OOD) samples is critical for deployed neural networks to void unreliable predictions. In real-world scenarios, however, the efficacy of existing OOD detection methods is often impeded by the inherent imbalance of in-distribution (ID) data, which causes significant performance decline. Through statistical observations, we have identified two common challenges faced by different OOD detectors: misidentifying tail class ID samples as OOD, while erroneously predicting OOD samples as head class from ID. To explain this phenomenon, we introduce a generalized statistical framework, termed ImOOD, to formulate the OOD detection problem on imbalanced data distribution. Consequently, the theoretical analysis reveals that there exists a class-aware bias item between balanced and imbalanced OOD detection, which contributes to the performance gap. Building upon this finding, we present a unified training-time regularization technique to mitigate the bias and boost imbalanced OOD detectors across architecture designs. Our theoretically grounded method translates into consistent improvements on the representative CIFAR10-LT, CIFAR100-LT, and ImageNet-LT benchmarks against several state-of-the-art OOD detection approaches. Enhancing LLM's Cognition via Structurization

When reading long-form text, human cognition is complex and structurized. While large language models (LLMs) process input contexts through a causal and sequential perspective, this approach can potentially limit their ability to handle intricate and complex inputs effectively. To enhance LLM's cognition capability, this paper presents a novel concept of context structurization. Specifically, we transform the plain, unordered contextual sentences into well-ordered and hierarchically structurized elements. By doing so, LLMs can better grasp intricate and extended contexts through precise attention and information-seeking along the organized structures. Extensive evaluations are conducted across various model architectures and sizes (including a series of auto-regressive LLMs as well as BERT-like masking models) on a diverse set of NLP tasks (e.g., context-based question-answering, exhaustive hallucination evaluation, and passage-level dense retrieval). Empirical results show consistent and significant performance gains afforded by a single-round structurization. In particular, we boost the open-sourced LLaMA2-70B model to achieve comparable performance against GPT-3.5-Turbo as the hallucination evaluator. Besides, we show the feasibility of distilling advanced LLMs' language processing abilities to a smaller yet effective StruXGPT-7B to execute structurization, addressing the practicality of our approach. MoMa-Pos: An Efficient Object-Kinematic-Aware Base Placement Optimization Framework for Mobile Manipulation

In this work, we present MoMa-Pos, a framework that optimizes base placement for mobile manipulators, focusing on navigation-manipulation tasks in environments with both rigid and articulated objects. Base placement is particularly critical in such environments, where improper positioning can severely hinder task execution if the object's kinematics are not adequately accounted for. MoMa-Pos selectively reconstructs the environment by prioritizing task-relevant key objects, enhancing computational efficiency and ensuring that only essential kinematic details are processed. The framework leverages a graph-based neural network to predict object importance, allowing for focused modeling while minimizing unnecessary computations. Additionally, MoMa-Pos integrates inverse reachability maps with environmental kinematic properties to identify feasible base positions tailored to the specific robot model. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that MoMa-Pos outperforms existing methods in both real and simulated environments, offering improved efficiency, precision, and adaptability across diverse settings and robot models. A Theoretical Study of Neural Network Expressive Power via Manifold Topology

A prevalent assumption regarding real-world data is that it lies on or close to a low-dimensional manifold. When deploying a neural network on data manifolds, the required size, i.e., the number of neurons of the network, heavily depends on the intricacy of the underlying latent manifold. While significant advancements have been made in understanding the geometric attributes of manifolds, it's essential to recognize that topology, too, is a fundamental characteristic of manifolds. In this study, we investigate network expressive power in terms of the latent data manifold. Integrating both topological and geometric facets of the data manifold, we present a size upper bound of ReLU neural networks.

NYC-Event-VPR: A Large-Scale High-Resolution Event-Based Visual Place Recognition Dataset in Dense Urban Environments

Visual place recognition (VPR) enables autonomous robots to identify previously visited locations, which contributes to tasks like simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). VPR faces challenges such as accurate image neighbor retrieval and appearance change in scenery. Event cameras, also known as dynamic vision sensors, are a new sensor modality for VPR and offer a promising solution to the challenges with their unique attributes: high temporal resolution (1MHz clock), ultra-low latency (in μs), and high dynamic range (>120dB). These attributes make event cameras less susceptible to motion blur and more robust in variable lighting conditions, making them suitable for addressing VPR challenges. However, the scarcity of event-based VPR datasets, partly due to the novelty and cost of event cameras, hampers their adoption. To fill this data gap, our paper introduces the NYC-Event-VPR dataset to the robotics and computer vision communities, featuring the Prophesee IMX636 HD event sensor (1280x720 resolution), combined with RGB camera and GPS module. It encompasses over 13 hours of geotagged event data, spanning 260 kilometers across New York City, covering diverse lighting and weather conditions, day/night scenarios, and multiple visits to various locations. Furthermore, our paper employs three frameworks to conduct generalization performance assessments, promoting innovation in event-based VPR and its integration into robotics applications.

Inferring Neural Signed Distance Functions by Overfitting on Single Noisy Point Clouds through Finetuning Data-Driven based Priors

It is important to estimate an accurate signed distance function (SDF) from a point cloud in many computer vision applications. The latest methods learn neural SDFs using either a data-driven based or an overfitting-based strategy. However, these two kinds of methods are with either poor generalization or slow convergence, which limits their capability under challenging scenarios like highly noisy point clouds. To resolve this issue, we propose a method to promote pros of both data-driven based and overfitting-based methods for better generalization, faster inference, and higher accuracy in learning neural SDFs. We introduce a novel statistical reasoning algorithm in local regions which is able to finetune data-driven based priors without signed distance supervision, clean point cloud, or point normals. This helps our method start with a good initialization, and converge to a minimum in a much faster way. Our numerical and visual comparisons with the state-of-the-art methods show our superiority over these methods in surface reconstruction and point cloud denoising on widely used shape and scene benchmarks. Search for $η_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}$ and branching fraction measurements of $χ_{cJ} \to p\bar{p}$ via $ψ(2S)$ radiative decays

Using $(27.12\pm0.14) \times 10^{8}$ $ψ(2S)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII, we search for the decay $η_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}$ via the process $ψ(2S)\to γη_c(2S)$, and only find a signal with a significance of $1.7\,σ$. The upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(ψ(2S)\to γη_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(η_c(2S)\to p\bar{p})<2.4\times 10^{-7}$. The branching fractions of $χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{p}~(J=0,1,2)$ are also measured to be $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c0}\to p\bar{p})=(2.51\pm0.02\pm0.08)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1}\to p\bar{p})=(8.16\pm0.09\pm0.25)\times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c2}\to p\bar{p})=(8.33\pm0.09\pm0.22)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Measurement of the branching fractions of the decays $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΛK_{S}^{0}K^{+}$, $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΛK_{S}^{0}π^{+}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΛK^{*+}$

Studies are performed of the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}K^+$ and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}π^+$, based on a sample of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb$^{-1}$, accumulated at center-of-mass energies between $4599.53$ MeV and $4698.82$ MeV with the BESIII detector. The decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}π^+$ is observed for the first time. The branching fractions of $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}K^+$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}π^+$ are measured to be $(3.04\pm0.30\pm0.16)\times 10^{-3}$ and $(1.73\pm0.27\pm0.10)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results correspond to the most precise measurement of these quantities for both decays. Evidence of a $K^{*+}$ contribution in the $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK_{S}^{0}π^+$ decay is found with a statistical significance of $4.7σ$. The branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΛK^{*+}$ is calculated under three possible interference scenarios.

INSIDE: LLMs' Internal States Retain the Power of Hallucination Detection

Knowledge hallucination have raised widespread concerns for the security and reliability of deployed LLMs. Previous efforts in detecting hallucinations have been employed at logit-level uncertainty estimation or language-level self-consistency evaluation, where the semantic information is inevitably lost during the token-decoding procedure. Thus, we propose to explore the dense semantic information retained within LLMs' \textbf{IN}ternal \textbf{S}tates for halluc\textbf{I}nation \textbf{DE}tection (\textbf{INSIDE}). In particular, a simple yet effective \textbf{EigenScore} metric is proposed to better evaluate responses' self-consistency, which exploits the eigenvalues of responses' covariance matrix to measure the semantic consistency/diversity in the dense embedding space. Furthermore, from the perspective of self-consistent hallucination detection, a test time feature clipping approach is explored to truncate extreme activations in the internal states, which reduces overconfident generations and potentially benefits the detection of overconfident hallucinations. Extensive experiments and ablation studies are performed on several popular LLMs and question-answering (QA) benchmarks, showing the effectiveness of our proposal.

Diagonal and normal with Toeplitz-block splitting iteration method for space fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with repulsive nonlinearities

By applying the linearly implicit conservative difference scheme proposed in [D.-L. Wang, A.-G. Xiao, W. Yang. J. Comput. Phys. 2014;272:670-681], the system of repulsive space fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations leads to a sequence of linear systems with complex symmetric and Toeplitz-plus-diagonal structure. In this paper, we propose the diagonal and normal with Toeplitz-block splitting iteration method to solve the above linear systems. The new iteration method is proved to converge unconditionally, and the optimal iteration parameter is deducted. Naturally, this new iteration method leads to a diagonal and normal with circulant-block preconditioner which can be executed efficiently by fast algorithms. In theory, we provide sharp bounds for the eigenvalues of the discrete fractional Laplacian and its circulant approximation, and further analysis indicates that the spectral distribution of the preconditioned system matrix is tight. Numerical experiments show that the new preconditioner can significantly improve the computational efficiency of the Krylov subspace iteration methods. Moreover, the behavior of the corresponding preconditioned GMRES method exhibits a linear dependence on the space mesh size, which weakens as the fractional order parameter decreases.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay $Λ_c^{+}\to pπ^0$

Utilizing 4.5${~\rm{fb}}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, the first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^{+}\to pπ^0$ is presented, with a statistical significance of $5.4σ$. The ratio of the branching fractions of $Λ_c^{+}\to pπ^0$ and $Λ_c^{+}\to pη$ is measured as $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^{+}\to pπ^0)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^{+}\to pη)=(0.120\pm0.026_{\rm stat.}\pm0.007_{\rm syst.})$. This result resolves the longstanding discrepancy between earlier experimental searches, providing both a decisive conclusion and valuable input for QCD-inspired theoretical models. A sophisticated deep learning approach using a Transformer-based architecture is employed to distinguish the signal from the prevalent hadronic backgrounds, complemented by thorough validation and systematic uncertainty quantification.

Long-Tailed Backdoor Attack Using Dynamic Data Augmentation Operations

Recently, backdoor attack has become an increasing security threat to deep neural networks and drawn the attention of researchers. Backdoor attacks exploit vulnerabilities in third-party pretrained models during the training phase, enabling them to behave normally for clean samples and mispredict for samples with specific triggers. Existing backdoor attacks mainly focus on balanced datasets. However, real-world datasets often follow long-tailed distributions. In this paper, for the first time, we explore backdoor attack on such datasets. Specifically, we first analyze the influence of data imbalance on backdoor attack. Based on our analysis, we propose an effective backdoor attack named Dynamic Data Augmentation Operation (D$^2$AO). We design D$^2$AO selectors to select operations depending jointly on the class, sample type (clean vs. backdoored) and sample features. Meanwhile, we develop a trigger generator to generate sample-specific triggers. Through simultaneous optimization of the backdoored model and trigger generator, guided by dynamic data augmentation operation selectors, we achieve significant advancements. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method can achieve the state-of-the-art attack performance while preserving the clean accuracy.
