An Ultra-Low Profile Metasurface for Enhanced Non-Diffractive OAM Beam Generation Based on Sparse Feed Array

This paper proposes a novel ultra-low profile transmitted metasurface to generate enhanced non-diffractive orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams, employing a sparse feed array (SFA) to create a quasi-plane wave excitation for the first time. Our simulation indicates that with uniform amplitude excitation, the non-diffraction performance of Bessel beam produced by metasurface, surpasses that of conventional single-feed excitation. Based on this principle, a 5 * 5 sparse feed array is introduced and positioned less than one wavelength from the metasurface, ensuring a quasi-uniform amplitude excitation across all units. Further, this metasurface leverages its flexible phase control capability and integrates the spatial phase, OAM phase, and axicon phase to generate an enhanced high-order Bessel beam. The simulated results confirm a successful non-diffractive Bessel beam generation carrying OAM with mode l = +2, exhibiting reduced beam divergence and higher gain. This design also offers benefits of ultra-low profile, high aperture efficiency, low structural complexity.

Flexible Wideband Filtering Monopole Antenna With Stable High Omnidirectionality

This article presents a wideband flexible filtering monopole antenna with symmetric structure for stable high omnidirectionality. It is based on a monopole antenna, which is printed on a single-layer flexible substrate. Two folded parasitic strips with different length are devised on both sides of the driven monopole, giving filtering responses in the higher and lower band without filtering circuits. Since the asymmetric filtering structure adversely affects in-band omnidirectionality, this baseline design is extended with symmetric filtering structure to improve omnidirectionality and bandwidth. In the proposed design, a pair of parasitic strips are devised on the both sides of monopole antenna symmetrically, achieving a radiation null in the higher band. Then, by loading a pair of folded parasitic strips on the both sides of feed line with slotted metal ground, a radiation null is realized in the lower band. Besides, the driven monopole is slotted symmetrically for wideband operation. By adopting a fully symmetric filtering structure, the proposed design effectively suppresses the impact of the parasitic elements on the in-band omnidirectional radiation pattern, thereby achieving high omnidirectionality. Furthermore, the proposed antenna exhibits stable performance under different bending radii. To verify our design concept, an antenna prototype is fabricated. Both the flat and bent antennas are measured. The results show that the proposed antenna has a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 45.6%, an in-band gain about 2 dBi, and an out-of-band radiation suppression more than 11 dB. The measured omnidirectionality has variations less than 0.8 dB without bending and 1 dB with a bending radius of 30 mm. This design offers several advantages including stable high omnidirectionality across a wide bandwidth, flexible conformal capability, and filtering property.

A Wideband Multibeam Planar Quasi-Yagi Array Antenna Based on Parasitic Pixel Strips

This letter presents a low-complexity parasitic pixel strip (PPS) structure for array antenna to generate six radiations with flexible beam control. To realize multibeam operation, three groups of symmetrical strip-shaped pixels are integrated with the feed antenna, the connection state of which can be controlled by PIN diode. Leveraging the reconfigurable parasitic configuration, the coupling path of the antenna can be strategically manipulated, achieving the desired multibeam property. Thus, by utilizing the PPS structure in conjunction with a planar quasi-Yagi antenna, this single antenna can operate at four states with beam direction towards 40{\deg}, -40{\deg}, 0{\deg}, along with a dual-beam at +/-45{\deg}, within the frequency range from 5.0 to 5.6 GHz. Moreover, a prototype of a 1 * 2 array with the PPS structure is also fabricated to achieve six beams with a scan range of 40{\deg}, 20{\deg}, 0{\deg}, -20{\deg}, -40{\deg} and a dual-beam at +/-30{\deg}. Notably, only four PIN diodes are utilized to implement six radiations, verifying that this approach effectively minimizes the excessive use of switches and extends the variety of beams, which provides a low complexity method for multibeam array antenna without complicated beamforming network. These antennas satisfy the benefits of wideband, planner structure, low structural complexity, low cost, and flexible beam control.

Lip-Siri: Contactless Open-Sentence Silent Speech with Wi-Fi Backscatter

Silent speech interfaces (SSIs) enable silent interaction in noise-sensitive or privacy-sensitive settings. However, existing SSIs face practical deployment trade-offs among privacy, user experience, and energy consumption, and most remain limited to closed-set recognition over small, pre-defined vocabularies of words or sentences, which restricts real-world expressiveness. In this paper, we present Lip-Siri, to the best of our knowledge, the first Wi-Fi backscatter--based SSI that supports open-vocabulary sentence recognition via lexicon-guided subword decoding. Lip-Siri designs a frequency-shifted backscatter tag to isolate tag-modulated reflections and suppress interference from non-target motions, enabling reliable extraction of lip-motion traces from ubiquitous Wi-Fi signals. We then segment continuous traces into lip-motion units, cluster them, learn robust unit representations via cluster-based self-supervision, and finally propose a lexicon-guided Transformer encoder--decoder with beam search to decode variable-length sentence sequences. We implement an end-to-end prototype and evaluate it with 15 participants on 340 sentences and 3,398 words across multiple scenarios. Lip-Siri achieves 85.61% accuracy on word prediction and a WER of 36.87% on continuous sentence recognition, approaching the performance of representative vision-based lip-reading systems.

Potential Automorphy of K3 Surfaces with Large Picard Rank

The first part of this paper studied $\mathrm{GSp}_4$-type abelian varieties and the corresponding compatible systems of $\mathrm{GSp}_4$ representations. Techniques in \cite{BCGP} are applied to show that one can prove the potential modularity of these abelian varieties and compatible systems under some conditions that guarantee a sufficient amount of good primes. Then, in the second part, we use the potential modularity theorems to prove that K3 surfaces over totally real field $F$ with Picard rank $\ge 17$ are potentially modular.

Dual-Band Flexible Endfire Filtering Antenna With Conformal Capability for Emergency Communication Applications

In this letter, a single-layer dual-band flexible conformal filtering endfire antenna is presented. The proposed antenna is based on two co-designed folded dipoles (FDs) working at two frequencies, where the lower-frequency FD acts as a reflector for the higher-frequency one. Then, by devising an additional reflector for lower-frequency FD, dual-band endfire radiation is realized. Parasitic strips are deliberately introduced around the FDs to generate electric coupling and magnetic coupling in the two operating bands, resulting in significant filtering performance with four radiation nulls. With flexible structure and single-layer configuration, the antenna design exhibits flexible conformability with cylindrical surfaces of diverse diameters, thereby enabling seamless integration into scalable emergency communication systems. To verify our design concept, an antenna prototype is fabricated and measured. The measured working frequency ranges from 1.37 to 1.45 GHz and 1.89 to 2.07 GHz. Out-of-band radiation suppression more than 11 dB is achieved under different bending radii. The proposed design offers several advantages including dual-band endfire filtering radiation, flexible conformability and low-profile.

Orthorhombic nitride perovskite CeTaN3-{\delta} with switchable and robust ferroelectric polarization

Perovskite-type ternary nitrides with predicted exciting ferroelectricity and many other outstanding properties hold great promise to be an emerging class of advanced ferroelectrics for manufacturing diverse technologically important devices. However, such nitride ferroelectrics have not yet been experimentally identified, mainly due to the challenging sample synthesis by traditional methods at ambient pressure. Here we report the successful high-pressure synthesis of a high-quality ferroelectric nitride perovskite of CeTaN3-{\delta} with nitrogen deficiency, adopting an orthorhombic Pmn21 polar structure. This material is electrically insulating and exhibits switchable and robust electric polarization for producing ferroelectricity. Furthermore, a number of other extraordinary properties are also revealed in this nitride such as excellent mechanical properties and chemical inertness, which would make it practically useful for many device-relevant applications and fundamentally important for the study of condensed-matter physics.

A High-Efficiency Reconfigurable Bidirectional Array Antenna Based on Transmit-Reflect Switchable Metasurface

This paper proposes a reconfigurable bidirectional array antenna with high-efficiency radiations and flexible beam-switching capability by employing a novel transmit-reflect switchable metasurface (TRSM). To realize the electromagnetic (EM) wave transmitted or reflected manipulation, a dedicated transmit-reflect switch layer (TRSL) with periodically soldered PIN diodes is introduced between two transmitted metasurfaces. By switching ON/OFF the embedded diodes, the TRSL performs as a mesh-type ground layer or polarization-grid layer, exhibiting a reflect or transmit property to the incident wave respectively. Further, utilizing the above TRSM configuration in conjunction with a microstrip feed antenna, bidirectional radiations are obtained at the same frequency and polarization. To further reduce the number of PIN diodes and control complexity, an enhanced TRSM using a single diode to control two unit cells is also investigated, resulting in half PIN diodes reduction. Since the bidirectional beam-switching is achieved by only controlling PIN diodes integrated in the ground plane instead of directly acting on the radiation element, which reduces insertion loss and avoids phase quantization errors, the proposed antenna can maintain a high aperture efficiency. To verify this concept, a prototype was designed, fabricated, and measured, demonstrating a successful realization of backward and forward patterns with peak gains of 22.3 and 22.1 dBi, and aperture efficiencies of 47.2% and 43.8%. The 3-dB gain bandwidths of reflected and transmitted modes are 13.7% and 12.3%. This antenna has the advantages of high gain, high aperture efficiency, simple configuration, cost-effectiveness, and flexible and digital beam control.

ViRED: Prediction of Visual Relations in Engineering Drawings

To accurately understand engineering drawings, it is essential to establish the correspondence between images and their description tables within the drawings. Existing document understanding methods predominantly focus on text as the main modality, which is not suitable for documents containing substantial image information. In the field of visual relation detection, the structure of the task inherently limits its capacity to assess relationships among all entity pairs in the drawings. To address this issue, we propose a vision-based relation detection model, named ViRED, to identify the associations between tables and circuits in electrical engineering drawings. Our model mainly consists of three parts: a vision encoder, an object encoder, and a relation decoder. We implement ViRED using PyTorch to evaluate its performance. To validate the efficacy of ViRED, we conduct a series of experiments. The experimental results indicate that, within the engineering drawing dataset, our approach attained an accuracy of 96\% in the task of relation prediction, marking a substantial improvement over existing methodologies. The results also show that ViRED can inference at a fast speed even when there are numerous objects in a single engineering drawing.

Multibeam Hybrid Transmitarray Based on Polarization Rotating Metasurface With Reconfigurable Bidirectional Radiation

This paper proposes a bidirectional multibeam hybrid transmitarray (HTA) employing a transmission polarization-rotating metasurface (TPRM). A novel configuration is introduced to facilitate bidirectional beam scanning by combining the transmitarray (TA) and folded-transmitarray (FTA). To accomplish the reconfiguration of both unidirectional and bidirectional radiation states in the +z, -z, and +/-z directions, a polarization switchable multi-feed array (MFA) is placed at the focal plane between the TA and FTA, radiating x-polarization, y-polarization, and 45-degree oblique polarization waves, respectively. Meanwhile, the proposed antenna can achieve multibeam radiation in the three aforementioned states by switching the polarization of the MFA. To demonstrate the operating principle, a prototype has been designed, simulated, and fabricated. The measured results agree well with the simulated results. The simulated and measured results indicate that the proposed design can generate reconfigurable multibeam in both forward and backward directions, either separately or simultaneously. In the unidirectional states, forward and backward beam scanning is achieved within an angular range of +/-30{\deg} and +/-22{\deg}, respectively, with peak gains of 23.6 dBi and 23.1 dBi. A simultaneous forward and backward beam scanning of +/-40{\deg} and +/-22{\deg} is achieved in the hybrid radiation state, with peak gains of 19.4 dBi and 19.3 dBi, respectively. The proposed antenna array design offers several advantages, including bidirectional low-loss beam scanning, a simple structure, low power consumption, and a low profile.

New Spin Structure Constraints on Hyperfine Splitting and Proton Size

The 1S hyperfine splitting in hydrogen is measured to an impressive ppt precision and will soon be measured to ppm precision in muonic hydrogen. The latter measurement will rely on theoretical predictions, which are limited by knowledge of the proton polarizability effect $\Delta_\text{pol}$. Data-driven evaluations of $\Delta_\text{pol}$ have long been in significant tension with baryon chiral perturbation theory. Here we present improved results for $\Delta_\text{pol}$ driven by new spin structure data, reducing the long-standing tension between theory and experiment and halving the dominating uncertainty in hyperfine splitting calculations.

Lost in Overlap: Exploring Logit-based Watermark Collision in LLMs

The proliferation of large language models (LLMs) in generating content raises concerns about text copyright. Watermarking methods, particularly logit-based approaches, embed imperceptible identifiers into text to address these challenges. However, the widespread usage of watermarking across diverse LLMs has led to an inevitable issue known as watermark collision during common tasks, such as paraphrasing or translation. In this paper, we introduce watermark collision as a novel and general philosophy for watermark attacks, aimed at enhancing attack performance on top of any other attacking methods. We also provide a comprehensive demonstration that watermark collision poses a threat to all logit-based watermark algorithms, impacting not only specific attack scenarios but also downstream applications.

Context-Aware Indoor Point Cloud Object Generation through User Instructions

Indoor scene modification has emerged as a prominent area within computer vision, particularly for its applications in Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Traditional methods often rely on pre-existing object databases and predetermined object positions, limiting their flexibility and adaptability to new scenarios. In response to this challenge, we present a novel end-to-end multi-modal deep neural network capable of generating point cloud objects seamlessly integrated with their surroundings, driven by textual instructions. Our model revolutionizes scene modification by enabling the creation of new environments with previously unseen object layouts, eliminating the need for pre-stored CAD models. Leveraging Point-E as our generative model, we introduce innovative techniques such as quantized position prediction and Top-K estimation to address the issue of false negatives resulting from ambiguous language descriptions. Furthermore, we conduct comprehensive evaluations to showcase the diversity of generated objects, the efficacy of textual instructions, and the quantitative metrics, affirming the realism and versatility of our model in generating indoor objects. To provide a holistic assessment, we incorporate visual grounding as an additional metric, ensuring the quality and coherence of the scenes produced by our model. Through these advancements, our approach not only advances the state-of-the-art in indoor scene modification but also lays the foundation for future innovations in immersive computing and digital environment creation.

Non-Blockingness Verification of Bounded Petri Nets Using Basis Reachability Graphs -- An Extended Version With Benchmarks

In this paper, we study the problem of non-blockingness verification by tapping into the basis reachability graph (BRG). Non-blockingness is a property that ensures that all pre-specified tasks can be completed, which is a mandatory requirement during the system design stage. In this paper we develop a condition of transition partition of a given net such that the corresponding conflict-increase BRG contains sufficient information on verifying non-blockingness of its corresponding Petri net. Thanks to the compactness of the BRG, our approach possesses practical efficiency since the exhaustive enumeration of the state space can be avoided. In particular, our method does not require that the net is deadlock-free.

Verification of Nonblockingness in Bounded Petri Nets With Minimax Basis Reachability Graphs

This paper proposes a semi-structural approach to verify the nonblockingness of a Petri net. We construct a structure, called minimax basis reachability graph (minimax-BRG): it provides an abstract description of the reachability set of a net while preserving all information needed to test if the net is blocking. We prove that a bounded deadlock-free Petri net is nonblocking if and only if its minimax-BRG is unobstructed, which can be verified by solving a set of integer constraints and then examining the minimax-BRG. For Petri nets that are not deadlock-free, one needs to determine the set of deadlock markings. This can be done with an approach based on the computation of maximal implicit firing sequences enabled by the markings in the minimax-BRG. The approach we developed does not require the construction of the reachability graph and has wide applicability.

Physical-Layer Security for Frequency Diverse Array Based Directional Modulation in Fluctuating Two-Ray Fading Channels

The frequency diverse array (FDA) based directional modulation (DM) technology plays an important role in the implementation of the physical-layer security (PLS) transmission of 5G and beyond communication system. In order to meet the tremendous increase in mobile data traffic, a new design consuming less memory for the FDA-DM-based PLS transmission is urgently demanded. In this paper, an analytical symmetrical multi-carrier FDA model is proposed in three dimensions, namely, range, azimuth angle, and elevation angle, which differs from the conventional analytical approach with only range and azimuth angle considered. Then, a single-point (SP) artificial noise (AN) aided FDA-DM scheme is proposed, which reduces memory consumption of FDA-DM systems significantly compared with the conventional zero-forcing (ZF) and singular value decomposition (SVD) approaches. Moreover, the PLS performance of the proposed low-memory-consumption FDA-DM scheme is analyzed in fluctuating two-ray (FTR) fading channels for the first time, including bit error rate (BER), secrecy rate (SR), and secrecy outage probability (SOP). More importantly, the closed-form expressions for the lower bound of the average SR and the upper bound of the SOP are derived, respectively. The effectiveness of the analytical expressions is verified by numerical simulations. This work opens a way to lower the memory requirements for the DM-based PLS transmission of 5G and beyond communication system.

SVD-Aided Multi-Beam Directional Modulation Scheme Based on Frequency Diverse Array

With the assistance of singular value decomposition (SVD), a multi-beam directional modulation (DM) scheme based on symmetrical multi-carrier frequency diverse array (FDA) is proposed. The proposed DM scheme is capable of achieving range-angle dependent physical layer secure (PLS) transmissions in free space with much lower complexity than the conventional zero-forcing (ZF) method. Theoretical and simulated results about secrecy rate and complexity verify the improved computational efficiency and considerable memory savings despite a very small penalty of secrecy rate.

Beam Position Reconstruction for the g2p Experiment in Hall A at Jefferson Lab

Beam-line equipment was upgraded for experiment E08-027 (g2p) in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. Two beam position monitors (BPMs) were necessary to measure the beam position and angle at the target. A new BPM receiver was designed and built to handle the low beam currents (50-100 nA) used for this experiment. Two new super-harps were installed for calibrating the BPMs. In addition to the existing fast raster system, a slow raster system was installed. Before and during the experiment, these new devices were tested and debugged, and their performance was also evaluated. In order to achieve the required accuracy (1-2 mm in position and 1-2 mrad in angle at the target location), the data of the BPMs and harps were carefully analyzed, as well as reconstructing the beam position and angle event by event at the target location. The calculated beam position will be used in the data analysis to accurately determine the kinematics for each event.
