Tea Chrysanthemum Detection under Unstructured Environments Using the TC-YOLO Model

Tea chrysanthemum detection at its flowering stage is one of the key components for selective chrysanthemum harvesting robot development. However, it is a challenge to detect flowering chrysanthemums under unstructured field environments given the variations on illumination, occlusion and object scale. In this context, we propose a highly fused and lightweight deep learning architecture based on YOLO for tea chrysanthemum detection (TC-YOLO). First, in the backbone component and neck component, the method uses the Cross-Stage Partially Dense Network (CSPDenseNet) as the main network, and embeds custom feature fusion modules to guide the gradient flow. In the final head component, the method combines the recursive feature pyramid (RFP) multiscale fusion reflow structure and the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pool (ASPP) module with cavity convolution to achieve the detection task. The resulting model was tested on 300 field images, showing that under the NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPU environment, if the inference speed is 47.23 FPS for each image (416 * 416), TC-YOLO can achieve the average precision (AP) of 92.49% on our own tea chrysanthemum dataset. In addition, this method (13.6M) can be deployed on a single mobile GPU, and it could be further developed as a perception system for a selective chrysanthemum harvesting robot in the future.

Representation Learning-Assisted Click-Through Rate Prediction

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction is a critical task in online advertising systems. Most existing methods mainly model the feature-CTR relationship and suffer from the data sparsity issue. In this paper, we propose DeepMCP, which models other types of relationships in order to learn more informative and statistically reliable feature representations, and in consequence to improve the performance of CTR prediction. In particular, DeepMCP contains three parts: a matching subnet, a correlation subnet and a prediction subnet. These subnets model the user-ad, ad-ad and feature-CTR relationship respectively. When these subnets are jointly optimized under the supervision of the target labels, the learned feature representations have both good prediction powers and good representation abilities. Experiments on two large-scale datasets demonstrate that DeepMCP outperforms several state-of-the-art models for CTR prediction.

A new Capacity-Achieving Private Information Retrieval Scheme with (Almost) Optimal File Length for Coded Servers

In a distributed storage system, private information retrieval (PIR) guarantees that a user retrieves one file from the system without revealing any information about the identity of its interested file to any individual server. In this paper, we investigate $(N,K,M)$ coded sever model of PIR, where each of $M$ files is distributed to the $N$ servers in the form of $(N,K)$ maximum distance separable (MDS) code for some $N>K$ and $M>1$. As a result, we propose a new capacity-achieving $(N,K,M)$ coded linear PIR scheme such that it can be implemented with file length $\frac{K(N-K)}{\gcd(N,K)}$, which is much smaller than the previous best result $K\big(\frac{N}{\gcd(N,K)}\big)^{M-1}$. Notably, among all the capacity-achieving coded linear PIR schemes, we show that the file length is optimal if $M>\big\lfloor \frac{K}{\gcd(N,K)}-\frac{K}{N-K}\big\rfloor+1$, and within a multiplicative gap $\frac{K}{\gcd(N,K)}$ of a lower bound on the minimum file length otherwise.

Achieving both positive secrecy rates of the users in two-way wiretap channel by individual secrecy

In this paper, the individual secrecy of two-way wiretap channel is investigated, where two legitimate users' messages are separately guaranteed secure against an external eavesdropper. For one thing, in some communication scenarios, the joint secrecy is impossible to achieve both positive secrecy rates of two users. For another, the individual secrecy satisfies the secrecy demand of many practical communication systems. Thus, firstly, an achievable secrecy rate region is derived for the general two-way wiretap channel with individual secrecy. In a deterministic channel, the region with individual secrecy is shown to be larger than that with joint secrecy.Secondly, outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region are obtained for the general two-way wiretap channel and for two classes of special two-way wiretap channels. The gap between inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region is explored via the binary input two-way wiretap channels and the degraded Gaussian two-way wiretap. Most notably, the secrecy capacity regions are established for the XOR channel and the degraded Gaussian two-way wiretap channel.Furthermore, the secure sum-rate of the degraded Gaussian two-way wiretap channel under the individual secrecy constraint is demonstrated to be strictly larger than that under the joint secrecy constraint.

Effects of Feedback on the One-sided Secrecy of Two-way Wiretap through Multiple Transmissions

In this paper, the one-sided secrecy of two-way wiretap channel with feedback is investigated, where the confidential messages of one user through multiple transmissions is guaranteed secure against an external eavesdropper. For one thing, one-sided secrecy satisfies the secure demand of many practical scenarios. For another, the secrecy is measured over many blocks since the correlation between eavesdropper's observation and the confidential messages in successive blocks, instead of secrecy measurement of one block in previous works. Thus, firstly, an achievable secrecy rate region is derived for the general two-way wiretap channel with feedback through multiple transmissions under one-sided secrecy. Secondly, outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region are also obtained. The gap between inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region is explored via the binary input two-way wiretap channels. Most notably, the secrecy capacity regions are established for the XOR channel. Furthermore, the result shows that the achievable rate region with feedback is larger than that without feedback. Therefore, the benefit role of feedback is precisely characterized for two-way wiretap channel with feedback under one-sided secrecy.

An experimental test of the viscous anisotropy hypothesis for partially molten rocks

Chemical differentiation of rocky planets occurs by melt segregation away from the region of melting. The mechanics of this process, however, are complex and incompletely understood. In partially molten rocks undergoing shear deformation, melt pockets between grains align coherently in the stress field; it has been hypothesized that this anisotropy in microstructure creates an anisotropy in the viscosity of the aggregate. With the inclusion of anisotropic viscosity, continuum, two-phase-flow models reproduce the emergence and angle of melt-enriched bands that form in laboratory experiments. In the same theoretical context, these models also predict sample-scale melt migration due to a gradient in shear stress. Under torsional deformation, melt is expected to segregate radially inward. Here we present new torsional deformation experiments on partially molten rocks that test this prediction. Microstructural analyses of the distribution of melt and solid reveal a radial gradient in melt fraction, with more melt toward the centre of the cylinder. The extent of this radial melt segregation grows with progressive strain, consistent with theory. The agreement between theoretical prediction and experimental observation provides a validation of this theory, which is critical to understanding the large-scale geodynamic and geochemical evolution of Earth.
