Curvature-induced scalarization of charged AdS black holes

We investigate how a negative cosmological constant affects the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) scalarization in the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet theory with a scalar coupling constant $η$ to GB term. We focus on the instability of Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RN-AdS) black holes under a scalar perturbation governed by an effective mass $μ^2_{\text{eff}}$ sourced by the GB term. Unlike the asymptotically flat spacetime case, the onset of scalarization is not merely determined by $μ^2_{\text{eff}} < 0$, but it is constrained by the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound. In case that the BF bound is violated ($η>2.25$ with $Λ=-0.5$), one may find AdS-tachyonic instability. We find that for $0<η<2.25$, the GB$^+$ scalarization may be performed through spontaneous scalarization, while for $η<0$ the GB$^-$ scalarization is found to give the single branch of scalarized AdS black holes. For the GB$^+$ scalarization in $η_{th}\leη<2.25$ with $η_{th}$ threshold instability, we obtain the single branch ($n=0$ fundamental branch) of scalarized AdS black holes, in contrast to the infinite branches in asymptotically flat spacetime. A bulk fixed-charge thermodynamic analysis is performed thoroughly for GB$^\pm$ scalarizations.

Charge-dependent scalarization of Einstein- Euler-Heisenberg black holes

Charge-dependent scalarization of the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg (EEH) black hole is carried out in the EEH-scalar theory by introducing an exponential scalar coupling with $α$ coupling constant to the Maxwell and nonlinear electrodynamic terms. The bald black hole (EEHBH) is described by mass $M$ and arbitrary magnetic charge $q$ and has a single horizon when choosing the action parameter $μ=0.3$. The spontaneous scalarization ($α^+$) of this black hole is available for charge $0 q_c$ and negative $α$. The former case of $q=0.5$ implies infinite branches of scalarized EEHBHs but its fundamental branch ($n=0$) is stable against radial perturbations, while the latter cases of $q=2,20$ show two stable single branches of scalarized EEHBHs.

Perturbations of massless external fields on magnetically charged black holes in string-inspired Euler-Heisenberg theory

In this paper, we study the perturbations of massless scalar and electromagnetic fields on the magnetically charged black holes in string-inspired Euler-Heisenberg theory. We calculate the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) and discuss influences of black hole magnetic charge $Q_m$, coupling parameter $ε$ and angular momentum $l$ on QNFs, emphasizing the relationship between these parameters and QNMs behavior. We find these results obtained through the AIM method are in good agreement with those of obtained by WKB method. The greybody factor is calculated by WKB method. The effects of these parameters $Q_m$ and $ε$ on the greybody factor are also studied.

Analytical approximate solutions of AdS black holes in Einstein-Weyl-scalar gravity

We consider Einstein-Weyl gravity with a minimally coupled scalar field in four dimensional spacetime. By using the Minimal Geometric Deformation (MGD) approach, we split the highly nonlinear coupled field equations into two subsystems that describing the background geometry and scalar field source, respectively. Regarding the Schwarzschild-AdS metric as a background geometry, we derive analytical approximate solutions of scalar field and deformation metric functions with Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM), providing their analytical approximations to fourth order. Moreover, we discuss the accuracy of the analytical approximations, showing they are sufficiently accurate throughout the exterior spacetime.

Gravitational decoupling for hairy black holes in asymptotically AdS spacetimes

In this study, the gravitational decoupling approach via extended geometric deformation is utilized to generate analytical black hole solutions owing to its simplicity and effectiveness. Considering the external fields surrounding Schwarzschild AdS black holes, we derive hairy black hole solutions in asymptotic AdS spacetime, satisfying the strong and dominant energy conditions. Moreover, we find that if the black hole spacetime is a fluid system, the fluid under each of these conditions is anisotropic.

Joule-Thomson Expansion of Born-Infeld AdS Black Holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this paper, the Joule{Thomson expansion of Born{Infeld AdS black holes in the consistent Aoki{Gorji{Mukohyama theory of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity is studied in the extended phase space. We further analyze the effect of parameters αand βon the inversion curves and plot the inversion and isenthalpic curves in the T-P plane, which can determine the cooling-heating regions.

Phase transition and Quasinormal modes for Charged black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes(QNMs) of massless scalar perturbations to probe the Van der Waals like small and large black holes(SBH/LBH) phase transition of (charged) AdS black holes in the 4-dimensional Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We find that the signature of this SBH/LBH phase transition in the isobaric process can be detected since the slopes of the QNMs frequencies change drastically different in small and large black holes near the critical point. The obtained results further support that the QNMs can be a dynamic probe of the thermodynamic properties in black holes.

$P-V$ criticality and Joule-Thomson Expansion of Hayward-AdS black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this paper, the $P-V$ criticality and Joule-Thomson Expansion of Hayward-AdS black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity are studied in the extended phase space. We find the black hole always exhibits a phase transition similar to that of the Van der Waals system for any arbitrary positive parameters $α$ and $g$. We also study the dependence of $α$ and $g$ on the inversion curves and plot the inversion and isenthalpic curves in the $T-P$ plane, which can determine the cooling-heating regions.

Triple points and phase diagrams of Born-Infeld AdS black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

By treating the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure, we investigate the thermodynamic behaviors of Born-Infeld AdS black hole in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. The result shows that the Van der Waals like small/large black hole (SBH/LBH) phase transition always appears for any positive parameters $α$ and $β$. Moreover, we observe a new phenomenon of small/intermediate/large black hole (SBH/IBH/LBH) phase transition with one tricritical and two critical points in the available parameter region for αand β. This behavior is reminiscent of the solid/liquid/gas phase transition.
