Additional symmetries of the KP-mKP hierarchy and Virasoro constraints to the Burgers-KdV hierarchy

A KP-mKP hierarchy was introduced recently via pseudo-differential operators containing two derivations. In this paper, for the KP-mKP hierarchy we derive a class of (differential) Fay identities and construct a series of additional symmetries. Moreover, the additional symmetries are represented as certain linear actions on the tau functions of the hierarchy, with the help of the Adler-Shiota-van Moerbeke formula. As an application, we reprove the Virasoro constraints to the tau functions of the Burgers-KdV hierarchy, and such results are generalized to its higher order extensions regarded as reductions of the KP-mKP hierarchy.

Reduction properties of the KP-mKP hierarchy

The so-called KP-mKP hierarchy, which was introduced recently via pseudo-differential operators with two derivations, can be reduced to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP), the modified KP (mKP) and the two-component BKP hierarchies. In this note, we continue to study reductions properties of the KP-mKP hierarchy, including its $(n,m)$-reduction and its reduction to a certain extended $r$-reduced KP hierarchy (the $r$-th Gelfand-Dickey together with its wave function). As a byproduct, we show that the Hirota equations of the extended $r$-reduced KP hierarchy follow from those of the mKP hierarchy, which confirms a conjecture of Alexandrov on the open KdV hierarchy in [ J. High Energy Phys. 2015 ].

Integrable hierarchy for homogeneous realization of the toroidal Lie algebra $\mathcal{L}^{\rm tor}_{r+1}(\mathfrak{sl}_\ell)$

Starting from a fairly explicit homogeneous realization of the toroidal Lie algebra $\mathcal{L}^{\tor}_{r+1}(\fsl_\ell)$ via a lattice vertex algebra, we derive an integrable hierarchy of Hirota bilinear equations. Moreover, we represent this hierarchy in the form of Lax equations, and show that it is an extension of a certain reduction of the $\ell$-component KP hierarchy.

A KP-mKP Hierarchy via Operators with Two Derivations

By using pseudo-differential operators containing two derivations, we extend the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy to a certain KP-mKP hierarchy. For the KP-mKP hierarchy, we obtain its Bäcklund transformations, bilinear equations of Baker-Akhiezer functions and Hirota equations of tau functions. Moreover, we show that this hierarchy is equivalent to a subhierarchy of the dispersive Whitham hierarchy associated to the Riemann sphere with its infinity point and one movable point marked.

Bilinear equation and additional symmetries for an extension of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy

An extension of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy defined via scalar pseudo-differential operators was studied in [16, 20]. In this paper, we represent the extended KP hierarchy into the form of bilinear equation of (adjoint) Baker-Akhiezer functions, and construct its additional symmetries. As a byproduct, we derive the Virasoro symmetries for the constrained KP hierarchies.

Virasoro Constraints for Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies and equations of Painlevé type

We construct a tau cover of the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy associated to an arbitrary affine Kac-Moody algebra with gradations $\mathrm{s}\le\mathds{1}$ and derive its Virasoro symmetries. By imposing the Virasoro constraints we obtain solutions of the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy of Witten-Kontsevich and of Brezin-Gross-Witten types, and of those characterized by certain ordinary differential equations of Painlevé type. We also show the existence of affine Weyl group actions on solutions of such Painlevé type equations, which generalizes the theory of Noumi and Yamada on affine Weyl group symmetries of the Painlevé type equations.

Borodin-Okounkov formula, string equation and topological solutions of Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies

We give a general method to compute the expansion of topological tau functions for Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies associated to an arbitrary untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. Our method consists of two main steps: first these tau functions are expressed as (formal) Fredholm determinants of the type appearing in the Borodin-Okounkov formula, then the kernels for these determinants are found using a reduced form of the string equation. A number of explicit examples are given.

Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies and diagram automorphisms of affine Kac-Moody algebras

For a diagram automorphism of an affine Kac-Moody algebra such that the folded diagram is still an affine Dynkin diagram, we show that the associated Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy also admits an induced automorphism. Then we show how to obtain the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy associated to the affine Kac-Moody algebra that corresponds to the folded Dynkin diagram from the invariant sub-hierarchy of the original Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy.

Tau Functions and Virasoro Symmetries for Drinfeld-Sokolov Hierarchies

For each Drinfeld-Sokolov integrable hierarchy associated to affine Kac-Moody algebra, we obtain a uniform construction of tau function by using tau-symmetric Hamiltonian densities, moreover, we represent its Virasoro symmetries as linear/nonlinear actions on the tau function. The relations between the tau function constructed in this paper and those defined for particular cases of Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies in the literature are clarified. We also show that, whenever the affine Kac-Moody algebra is simply-laced or twisted, the tau functions of the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy coincide with the solutions of the corresponding Kac-Wakimoto hierarchy from the principal vertex operator realization of the affine algebra.

Tau functions and the limit of block Toeplitz determinants

A classical way to introduce tau functions for integrable hierarchies of solitonic equations is by means of the Sato-Segal-Wilson infinite-dimensional Grassmannian. Every point in the Grassmannian is naturally related to a Riemann-Hilbert problem on the unit circle, for which Bertola proposed a tau function that generalizes the Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno tau function for isomonodromic deformation problems. In this paper, we prove that the Sato-Segal-Wilson tau function and the (generalized) Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno isomonodromy tau function coincide under a very general setting, by identifying each of them to the large-size limit of a block Toeplitz determinant. As an application, we give a new definition of tau function for Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies (and their generalizations) by means of infinite-dimensional Grassmannians, and clarify their relation with other tau functions given in the literature.

Infinite-dimensional Frobenius Manifolds Underlying the Toda Lattice Hierarchy

Following the approach of Carlet et al.(2011)\cite{CDM}, we construct a class of infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds underlying the Toda lattice hierarchy, which are defined on the space of pairs of meromorphic functions with possibly higher-order poles at the origin and at infinity. We also show a connection between these infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds and the finite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds on the orbit space of extended affine Weyl groups of type $A$ defined by Dubrovin and Zhang.

Tau function of the CKP hierarchy and non-linearizable Virasoro symmetries

We introduce a single tau function that represents the CKP hierarchy into a generalized Hirota "bilinear" equation. The actions on the tau function by additional symmetries for the hierarchy are calculated, which involve strictly more than a central extension of the $w^C_\infty$-algebra. As an application, for Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies of type C that are equivalent to certain reductions of the CKP hierarchy, their Virasoro symmetries are proved to be non-linearizable when acting on the tau function.

$R$-matrices and Hamiltonian Structures for Certain Lax Equations

In this paper a list of $R$-matrices on a certain coupled Lie algebra is obtained. With one of these $R$-matrices, we construct infinitely many bi-Hamiltonian structures for each of the two-component BKP and the Toda lattice hierarchies. We also show that, when such two hierarchies are reduced to their subhierarchies, these bi-Hamiltonian structures are reduced correspondingly.

A Class of Infinite-dimensional Frobenius Manifolds and Their Submanifolds

We construct a class of infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds on the space of pairs of certain even functions meromorphic inside or outside the unit circle. Via a bi-Hamiltonian recursion relation, the principal hierarchies associated to such Frobenius manifolds are found to be certain extensions of the dispersionless two-component BKP hierarchy. Moreover, we show that these infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds contain finite-dimensional Frobenius submanifolds as defined on the orbit space of Coxeter groups of types B and D.

From Additional Symmetries to Linearization of Virasoro Symmetries

We construct the additional symmetries and derive the Adler-Shiota-van Moerbeke formula for the two-component BKP hierarchy. We also show that the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies of type D, which are reduced from the two-component BKP hierarchy, possess symmetries written as the action of a series of linear Virasoro operators on the tau function. It results in that the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies of type D coincide with Dubrovin and Zhang's hierarchies associated to the Frobenius manifolds for Coxeter groups of type D, and that every solution of such a hierarchy together with the string equation is annihilated by certain combinations of the Virasoro operators and the time derivations of the hierarchy.
