Some relations deduced from regularized double shuffle relations of multiple zeta values

It is conjectured that the regularized double shuffle relations give all algebraic relations among the multiple zeta values, and hence all other algebraic relations should be deduced from the regularized double shuffle relations. In this paper, we provide as many as the relations which can be derived from the regularized double shuffle relations, for example, the weighted sum formula of L. Guo and B. Xie, some evaluation formulas with even arguments and the restricted sum formulas of M. E. Hoffman and their generalizations.

k-t NEXT: Dynamic MR Image Reconstruction Exploiting Spatio-temporal Correlations

Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exhibits high correlations in k-space and time. In order to accelerate the dynamic MR imaging and to exploit k-t correlations from highly undersampled data, here we propose a novel deep learning based approach for dynamic MR image reconstruction, termed k-t NEXT (k-t NEtwork with X-f Transform). In particular, inspired by traditional methods such as k-t BLAST and k-t FOCUSS, we propose to reconstruct the true signals from aliased signals in x-f domain to exploit the spatio-temporal redundancies. Building on that, the proposed method then learns to recover the signals by alternating the reconstruction process between the x-f space and image space in an iterative fashion. This enables the network to effectively capture useful information and jointly exploit spatio-temporal correlations from both complementary domains. Experiments conducted on highly undersampled short-axis cardiac cine MRI scans demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the current state-of-the-art dynamic MR reconstruction approaches both quantitatively and qualitatively.

VS-Net: Variable splitting network for accelerated parallel MRI reconstruction

In this work, we propose a deep learning approach for parallel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reconstruction, termed a variable splitting network (VS-Net), for an efficient, high-quality reconstruction of undersampled multi-coil MR data. We formulate the generalized parallel compressed sensing reconstruction as an energy minimization problem, for which a variable splitting optimization method is derived. Based on this formulation we propose a novel, end-to-end trainable deep neural network architecture by unrolling the resulting iterative process of such variable splitting scheme. VS-Net is evaluated on complex valued multi-coil knee images for 4-fold and 6-fold acceleration factors. We show that VS-Net outperforms state-of-the-art deep learning reconstruction algorithms, in terms of reconstruction accuracy and perceptual quality. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/j-duan/VS-Net.

Unsupervised Deformable Registration for Multi-Modal Images via Disentangled Representations

We propose a fully unsupervised multi-modal deformable image registration method (UMDIR), which does not require any ground truth deformation fields or any aligned multi-modal image pairs during training. Multi-modal registration is a key problem in many medical image analysis applications. It is very challenging due to complicated and unknown relationships between different modalities. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised learning approach to reduce the multi-modal registration problem to a mono-modal one through image disentangling. In particular, we decompose images of both modalities into a common latent shape space and separate latent appearance spaces via an unsupervised multi-modal image-to-image translation approach. The proposed registration approach is then built on the factorized latent shape code, with the assumption that the intrinsic shape deformation existing in original image domain is preserved in this latent space. Specifically, two metrics have been proposed for training the proposed network: a latent similarity metric defined in the common shape space and a learningbased image similarity metric based on an adversarial loss. We examined different variations of our proposed approach and compared them with conventional state-of-the-art multi-modal registration methods. Results show that our proposed methods achieve competitive performance against other methods at substantially reduced computation time.

Weighted sum formulas of multiple zeta values with even arguments

We obtain a weighted sum formula of the zeta values at even arguments, and a weighted sum formula of the multiple zeta values with even arguments and its zeta-star analogue. The weight coefficients are given by (symmetric) polynomials of the arguments. These weighted sum formulas for the zeta values and for the multiple zeta values were conjectured by L. Guo, P. Lei and J. Zhao.

Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks for Dynamic MR Image Reconstruction

Accelerating the data acquisition of dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) leads to a challenging ill-posed inverse problem, which has received great interest from both the signal processing and machine learning community over the last decades. The key ingredient to the problem is how to exploit the temporal correlation of the MR sequence to resolve the aliasing artefact. Traditionally, such observation led to a formulation of a non-convex optimisation problem, which were solved using iterative algorithms. Recently, however, deep learning based-approaches have gained significant popularity due to its ability to solve general inversion problems. In this work, we propose a unique, novel convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN) architecture which reconstructs high quality cardiac MR images from highly undersampled k-space data by jointly exploiting the dependencies of the temporal sequences as well as the iterative nature of the traditional optimisation algorithms. In particular, the proposed architecture embeds the structure of the traditional iterative algorithms, efficiently modelling the recurrence of the iterative reconstruction stages by using recurrent hidden connections over such iterations. In addition, spatiotemporal dependencies are simultaneously learnt by exploiting bidirectional recurrent hidden connections across time sequences. The proposed algorithm is able to learn both the temporal dependency and the iterative reconstruction process effectively with only a very small number of parameters, while outperforming current MR reconstruction methods in terms of computational complexity, reconstruction accuracy and speed.

Recurrent neural networks for aortic image sequence segmentation with sparse annotations

Segmentation of image sequences is an important task in medical image analysis, which enables clinicians to assess the anatomy and function of moving organs. However, direct application of a segmentation algorithm to each time frame of a sequence may ignore the temporal continuity inherent in the sequence. In this work, we propose an image sequence segmentation algorithm by combining a fully convolutional network with a recurrent neural network, which incorporates both spatial and temporal information into the segmentation task. A key challenge in training this network is that the available manual annotations are temporally sparse, which forbids end-to-end training. We address this challenge by performing non-rigid label propagation on the annotations and introducing an exponentially weighted loss function for training. Experiments on aortic MR image sequences demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves both accuracy and temporal smoothness of segmentation, compared to a baseline method that utilises spatial information only. It achieves an average Dice metric of 0.960 for the ascending aorta and 0.953 for the descending aorta.

Joint Learning of Motion Estimation and Segmentation for Cardiac MR Image Sequences

Cardiac motion estimation and segmentation play important roles in quantitatively assessing cardiac function and diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning method for joint estimation of motion and segmentation from cardiac MR image sequences. The proposed network consists of two branches: a cardiac motion estimation branch which is built on a novel unsupervised Siamese style recurrent spatial transformer network, and a cardiac segmentation branch that is based on a fully convolutional network. In particular, a joint multi-scale feature encoder is learned by optimizing the segmentation branch and the motion estimation branch simultaneously. This enables the weakly-supervised segmentation by taking advantage of features that are unsupervisedly learned in the motion estimation branch from a large amount of unannotated data. Experimental results using cardiac MRI images from 220 subjects show that the joint learning of both tasks is complementary and the proposed models outperform the competing methods significantly in terms of accuracy and speed.

Stuffle product formulas of multiple zeta values

We obtain recursive formulas for the stuffle product of multiple zeta values and of multiple zeta-star values. Then we apply the formulas to prove several stuffle product formulas with one or two strings of $z_p$'s. We also describe how to use our formulas in general cases.

Some relations of interpolated multiple zeta values

In this paper, the extended double shuffle relations for interpolated multiple zeta values are established. As an application, Hoffman's relations for interpolated multiple zeta values are proved. Furthermore, a generating function for sums of interpolated multiple zeta values of fixed weight, depth and height is represented by hypergeometric functions, and we discuss some special cases.

Wavy-roughness effect to thermal explosion of materials with power-law thermal absorptivity in microannuli

We obtain the approximate solutions for the steady temperature profiles of materials with a temperature-dependent thermal absorptivity inside a microannulus with wavy-rough surfaces considering a quasilinear partial differential equation by the boundary perturbation approach. We found the critical Frank-Kamanestkii parameter will depend on the small amplitude wavy-roughness.
