Early-Time and Late-Time Quantum Chaos

We show the relation between the Heisenberg averaging of regularized 2-point out-of-time ordered correlation function and the 2-point spectral form factor in bosonic quantum mechanics. The generalization to all even-point is also discussed. We also do the direct extension from the bosonic quantum mechanics to the non-interacting scalar field theory. Finally, we find that the coherent state and large-$N$ approaches are useful in the late-time study. We find that the computation of the coherent state can be simplified by the Heisenberg averaging. Therefore, this provides a simplified way to probe the late-time quantum chaos through a coherent state. The large-$N$ result is also comparable to the $N=3$ numerical result in the large-$N$ quantum mechanics. This can justify that large-$N$ technique in bosonic quantum mechanics can probe the late time, not the early time. Because the quantitative behavior of large-$N$ can be captured from the $N=3$ numerical result, the realization in experiments should be possible.

Lattice AdS Geometry and Continuum Limit

We construct the lattice AdS geometry. The lattice AdS$_2$ geometry and AdS$_3$ geometry can be extended from the lattice AdS$_2$ induced metric, which provided the lattice Schwarzian theory at the classical limit. Then we use the lattice embedding coordinates to rewrite the lattice AdS$_2$ geometry and AdS$_3$ geometry with the manifest isometry. The lattice AdS$_2$ geometry can be obtained from the lattice AdS$_3$ geometry through the compactification without the lattice artifact. The lattice embedding coordinates can also be used in the higher dimensional AdS geometry. Because the lattice Schwarzian theory does not suffer from the issue of the continuum limit, the lattice AdS$_2$ geometry can be obtained from the higher dimensional AdS geometry through the compactification, and the lattice AdS metric does not depend on the angular coordinates, we expect that the continuum limit should exist in the lattice Einstein gravity theory from this geometric lattice AdS geometry. Finally, we apply this lattice construction to construct the holographic tensor network without the issue of a continuum limit.

Analysis of the Entanglement with Centers

We begin from the quantization algebras and constraint for analyzing the choice of centers in the first-order formulation without losing generality. Then we calculate the entanglement entropy in the non-interacting $p$-form theory in $2p+2$ dimensional Euclidean flat background with an $S^{2p}$ entangling surface. The universal term of the entanglement entropy in the non-interacting $p$-form theory is determined in terms of the universal terms of the non-interacting zero-form theory. We also prove the strong subadditivity in the non-interacting theory with the non-trivial centers. Finally, we calculate the mutual information with centers in two-dimensional conformal field theory. The result shows that the mutual information is independent of the choice of centers.

Two-Dimensional Dilaton Gravity Theory and Lattice Schwarzian Theory

We report a holographic study of a two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the cases of non-vanishing and vanishing cosmological constants. Our result shows that the boundary theory of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the case of non-vanishing cosmological constants is the Schwarzian term coupled to a dilaton field, while for the case of vanishing cosmological constant, a theory does not have a kinetic term. We also include the higher derivative term $R^2$, where $R$ is the scalar curvature that is coupled to a dilaton field. We find that the form of the boundary theory is not modified perturbatively. Finally, we show that a lattice holographic picture is realized up to the second-order perturbation of boundary cut-off $ε^2$ under a constant boundary dilaton field and the non-vanishing cosmological constant by identifying the lattice spacing $a$ of a lattice Schwarzian theory with the boundary cut-off $ε$ of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory.

The Probe of Curvature in the Lorentzian AdS$_2$/CFT$_1$ Correspondence

We establish the Lorentzian AdS$_2$/CFT$_1$ correspondence from a reconstruction of all bulk points through the kinematic-space approach. The OPE block is exactly a bulk local operator. We formulate the correspondence between the bulk propagator in the non-interacting scalar field theory and the conformal block in CFT$_1$. When we consider the stress tensor, the variation probes the variation of AdS$_2$ metric. The reparameterization provides the asymptotic boundary of the bulk spacetime as in the derivation of the Schwarzian theory from two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory. Finally, we find the AdS$_2$ Riemann curvature tensor based on the above consistent check.

Spectral Form Factor as an OTOC Averaged over the Heisenberg Group

We prove that in bosonic quantum mechanics the two-point spectral form factor can be obtained as an average of the two-point out-of-time ordered correlation function, with the average taken over the Heisenberg group. In quantum field theory, there is an analogous result with the average taken over the tensor product of many copies of the Heisenberg group, one copy for each field mode. The resulting formula is expressed as a path integral over two fields, providing a promising approach to the computation of the spectral form factor. We develop the formula that we have obtained using a coherent state description from the JC model and also in the context of the large-$N$ limit of CFT and Yang-Mills theory from the large-$N$ matrix quantum mechanics.

Randomness and Chaos in Qubit Models

We introduce randomness into a class of integrable models and study the spectral form factor as a diagnostic to distinguish between randomness and chaos. Spectral form factors exhibit a characteristic dip-ramp-plateau behavior in the $N>2$ SYK$_2$ model at high temperatures that is absent in the $N=2$ SYK$_2$ model. Our results suggest that this dip-ramp-plateau behavior implies the existence of random eigenvectors in a quantum many-body system. To further support this observation, we examine the Gaussian random transverse Ising model and obtain consistent results without suffering from small $N$ issues. Finally, we demonstrate numerically that expectation values of observables computed in a random quantum state at late times are equivalent to the expectation values computed in the thermal ensemble in a Gaussian random one-qubit model.

Bell's Inequality, Generalized Concurrence and Entanglement in Qubits

It is well known that the maximal violation of the Bell's inequality for a two-qubit system is related to the entanglement formation in terms of a concurrence. However, a generalization of this relation to an $n$-qubit state has not been found. In the paper, we demonstrate some extensions of the relation between the upper bound of the Bell's violation and a {\it generalized} concurrence in several $n$-qubit states. In particular, we show the upper bound of the Bell's violation can be expressed as a function of the generalized concurrence, if a state can be expressed in terms of two variables. We apply the relation to the Wen-Plaquette model and show that the topological entanglement entropy can be extracted from the maximal Bell's violation.

Theoretical Properties of Entropy in a Strong Coupling Region

Entropy is a quantity for counting physical degrees of freedom in a system. At a finite temperature, one can use thermal entropy to study thermodynamical properties. At zero temperature, entanglement entropy is expected to provide a suitable order parameter of a phase structure. Especially, the entanglement entropy exhibits an interesting codimension two area law in a strongly coupled conformal field theory. We compute thermal entropy in a non-relativistic model with an infinite fermion mass limit from an exact effective potential to obtain thermal entropy at an infinite strong coupling limit. The computational result provides vanishing thermal entropy at an infinite strong coupling limit with a finite lattice spacing. The non-trivial topological term can be included in the strongly coupled lattice system to obtain the non-trivial entropy and the topology can be marked from the entropy. We first compute the thermal entropy in a two dimensional lattice topological quantum field theory to study the lattice artifact and also argue that a theory possibly has translational invariance if a system does not have a volume law in the entanglement entropy. Finally, we show that a coefficient of a universal term of the entanglement entropy should not be affected by a choice of an entangling surface in two dimensional conformal field theory for one interval case. We also discuss a choice of the entangling surface in the entanglement entropy in two dimensional $\mathrm{CP}^{N-1}$ model at the large $N$ limit.

Parity Anomaly and Duality Web

We review the parity anomaly and a duality web in 2+1 dimensions. An odd dimensional non-interacting Dirac fermion theory is not parity invariant at quantum level. We demonstrate the parity anomaly in a three dimensional non-interacting Dirac fermion theory and a one dimensional non-interacting Dirac fermion theory. These theories can generate non-gauge invariant Abelian Chern-Simons terms at a finite temperature through an effective action. The parity anomaly also leads us to study the duality web in 2+1 dimensions, in which the 2+1 dimensional duality web begins from the conjecture of a duality between a three dimensional Dirac fermion theory and a three dimensional interacting scalar field theory at the Wilson-Fisher fixed point. We first review the duality web for the flat background, then we discuss its extension to the spin$_c$ manifold to avoid inconsistency from the spin structure. This also leads a global effect. We discuss that the composite fermions approach of the quantum Hall system also suffers from the same issue of the global description. Finally, we use perspective of the electric-magnetic duality of the Abelian gauge theory in 3+1 dimensions to study the 2+1 dimensional duality web.

Maximally Entangled State and Bell's Inequality in Qubits

A maximally entangled state is a quantum state which has maximum von Neumann entropy for each bipartition. Through proposing a new method to classify quantum states by using concurrences of pure states of a region, one can apply Bell's inequality to study intensity of quantum entanglement of maximally entangled states. We use a class of seven-qubit quantum states to demonstrate the method, where we express all coefficients of the quantum states in terms of concurrences of pure states of a region. When a critical point of an upper bound of Bell's inequality occurs in our quantum states, one of the quantum state is a ground state of the toric code model on a disk manifold. Our result also implies that the maximally entangled states does not suggest local maximum quantum entanglement in our quantum states.

Discussion of Entanglement Entropy in Quantum Gravity

We study entanglement entropy in gravity theory with quantum effects. A simplest model is a two dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action . We use an $n$-sheet manifold to obtain an area term of entanglement entropy by summing over all background fields. A strongly coupled conformal field theory is expected to describe perturbative quantum gravity theory. Thus, we also use two dimensional conformal field theory to discuss a factorization of a Hilbert space. We find that a coefficient of a universal term of the entanglement entropy is independent of a choice of an entangling surface in two dimensional conformal field theory for one interval and also argue the result possibly be extended to multiple intervals. Finally, we discuss that translational invariance possibly be a necessary condition in a quantum gravity theory by ruing out a volume law of entanglement entropy.

A Duality Web in Condensed Matter Systems

We study various dualities in condensed matter systems. The dualities in three dimensions could be derived from a conjecture of a duality between a Dirac fermion theory and an interacting scalar field theory at the Wilson-Fisher fixed point and zero temperature in three dimensions. We show that the dualities are not affected by the non-trivial holonomy, use a mean-field method to study, and discuss the dualities at a finite temperature. Finally, we combine a bulk theory, which is an Abelian $p$-form theory with a theta term in $2p+2$ dimensions, and a boundary theory, which is a $2p+1$ dimensional theory, to discuss constraints and difficulties of a duality web in $2p+1$ dimensions.

Geometric Low-Energy Effective Action in a Doubled Spacetime

The ten-dimensional supergravity theory is a geometric low-energy effective theory and the equations of motion for its fields can be obtained from string theory by computing $β$ functions. With $d$ compact dimensions, we can add to it an $O(d, d;\mathbb{Z})$ geometric structure and construct the supergravity theory inspired by double field theory through the use of a suitable commutative star product. The latter implements the weak constraint of the double field theory on its fields and gauge parameters in order to have a closed gauge symmetry algebra. The consistency of the action here proposed is based on the orthogonality of the momenta associated with fields in their triple star products in the cubic terms defined for $d\ge1$. This orthogonality holds also for an arbitrary number of star products of fields for $d=1$. Finally, we extend our analysis to the double sigma model, non-commutative geometry and open string theory.

Bell's Inequality and Entanglement in Qubits

We propose an alternative evaluation of quantum entanglement by measuring the maximum violation of the Bell's inequality without performing a partial trace operation. This proposal is demonstrated by bridging the maximum violation of the Bell's inequality and the concurrence of a pure state in an $n$-qubit system, in which one subsystem only contains one qubit and the state is a linear combination of two product states. We apply this relation to the ground states of four qubits in the Wen-Plaquette model and show that they are maximally entangled. A topological entanglement entropy of the Wen-Plaquette model could be obtained by relating the upper bound of the maximum violation of the Bell's inequality to the concurrences of a pure state with respect to different bipartitions.

Discussion of the Duality in Three Dimensional Quantum Field Theory

We discuss the duality in three dimensional quantum field theory at infrared limit. The starting point is to use a conjecture of a duality between the free fermion and the interacting scalar field theories at the Wilson-Fisher fixed point. The conjecture is useful for deriving various dualities in three dimensions to obtain a duality web. The study is also interesting for understanding the dualities, or equivalence of different theories from the perspective of the renormalization group flow. We first discuss the "derivation" without losing the holonomy. Furthermore, we also derive these dualities from the mean-field study, and consider the extension of the conjecture or dualities at finite temperature.

Supergravity with Doubled Spacetime Structure

Double Field Theory (DFT) is a low-energy effective theory of a manifestly $O(D,D)$ invariant formulation of the closed string theory when toroidally compactified dimensions are present. The theory is based on a doubled spacetime structure and, in order to preserve the gauge symmetry provided by the invariance under generalized diffeomorphisms, a constraint has to be imposed on fields and gauge parameters. In this paper, we propose a DFT-inspired Supergravity by using a suitable {\em star product} that implements such constraint and the corresponding algebraic structure is explored. We get a consistent DFT in which also an orthogonality condition of momenta is necessary for having a closed gauge algebra. In constructing this theory, we start from the simplest case of doubling one spatial dimension where the action is uniquely determined, without ambiguities, by the gauge symmetry. Then, the extension to the generic $O(D, D)$ case is presented. The result is consistent with the closed string field theory.

Electric-Magnetic Dualities in Non-Abelian and Non-Commutative Gauge Theories

Electric-magnetic dualities are equivalence between strong and weak coupling constants. A standard example is the exchange of electric and magnetic fields in an abelian gauge theory. We show three methods to perform electric-magnetic dualities in the case of the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory. The first method is to use covariant field strengths to be the electric and magnetic fields. We find an invariant form of an equation of motion after performing the electric-magnetic duality. The second method is to use the Seiberg-Witten map to rewrite the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory in terms of abelian field strength. The third method is to use the large Neveu Schwarz-Neveu Schwarz (NS-NS) background limit (non-commutativity parameter only has one degree of freedom) to consider the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory or D3-brane. In this limit, we introduce or dualize a new one-form gauge potential to get a D3-brane in a large Ramond-Ramond (R-R) background via field redefinition. We also use perturbation to study the equivalence between two D3-brane theories. Comparison of these methods in the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory gives different physical implications. The comparison reflects the differences between the non-abelian and non-commutative gauge theories in the electric-magnetic dualities. For a complete study, we also extend our studies to the simplest abelian and non-abelian $p$-form gauge theories, and a non-commutative theory with the non-abelian structure.
