On the geometry of prequantization spaces

Given a Poisson (or more generally Dirac) manifold $P$, there are two approaches to its geometric quantization: one involves a circle bundle $Q$ over $P$ endowed with a Jacobi (or Jacobi-Dirac) structure; the other one involves a circle bundle with a (pre-) contact groupoid structure over the (pre-) symplectic groupoid of $P$. We study the relation between these two prequantization spaces. We show that the circle bundle over the (pre-) symplectic groupoid of $P$ is obtained from the groupoid of $Q$ via an $S^1$ reduction that preserves both the groupoid and the geometric structure.

Integrating Lie algebroids via stacks

Lie algebroids can not always be integrated into Lie groupoids. We introduce a new object--``Weinstein groupoid'', which is a differentiable stack with groupoid-like axioms. With it, we have solved the integration problem of Lie algebroids. It turns out that every Weinstein groupoid has a Lie algebroid and every Lie algebroid can be integrated into a Weinstein groupoid.

Lie n-groupoids and stacky Lie groupoids

We discuss two sorts of generalization of Lie groupoids. One is Lie $n$-groupoids defined as simplicial manifolds with trivial $π_{k\geq n+1}$. The other is the stacky Lie groupoid $\cG\rra M$ with $\cG$ a differentiable stack. We build 1-1 correspondence between Lie 2-groupoids and stacky Lie groupoids up to a certain Morita equivalence. Equivalences of these higher groupoids are described.

Elliptic gamma functions, triptic curves and SL_3(Z)

This is a condensed exposition of the results of math.QA/0601337, based on a talk of the first author at the Oberwolfach workshop "Deformations and Contractions in Mathematics and Physics", 15-21 January 2006.

Hopfish algebras

We introduce a notion of "hopfish algebra" structure on an associative algebra, allowing the structure morphisms (coproduct, counit, antipode) to be bimodules rather than algebra homomorphisms. We prove that quasi-Hopf algebras are examples of hopfish algebras. We find that a hopfish structure on the commutative algebra of functions on a finite set G is closely related to a "hypergroupoid" structure on G. The Morita theory of hopfish algebras is also discussed.

A gerbe for the elliptic gamma function

The identities for elliptic gamma functions discovered by A. Varchenko and one of us are generalized to an infinite set of identities for elliptic gamma functions associated to pairs of planes in 3-dimensional space. The language of stacks and gerbes gives a natural framework for a systematic description of these identities and their domain of validity. A triptic curve is the quotient of the complex plane by a subgroup of rank three (it is a stack). Our identities can be summarized by saying that elliptic gamma functions form a meromorphic section of a hermitian holomorphic abelian gerbe over the universal oriented triptic curve.

Integrating Poisson manifolds via stacks

A symplectic groupoid $G.:=(G_1 \rightrightarrows G_0)$ determines a Poisson structure on $G_0$. In this case, we call $G.$ a symplectic groupoid of the Poisson manifold $G_0$. However, not every Poisson manifold $M$ has such a symplectic groupoid. This keeps us away from some desirable goals: for example, establishing Morita equivalence in the category of all Poisson manifolds. In this paper, we construct symplectic Weinstein groupoids which provide a solution to the above problem (Theorem \ref{main}). More precisely, we show that a symplectic Weinstein groupoid induces a Poisson structure on its base manifold, and that to every Poisson manifold there is an associated symplectic Weinstein groupoid.

Contact reduction and groupoid actions

We introduce a new method to perform reduction of contact manifolds that extends Willett's (math.SG/0104080) and Albert's results. To carry out our reduction procedure all we need is a complete Jacobi map $J$ from a contact manifold $M$ to a Jacobi manifold $Γ_0$. This naturally generates the action of the contact groupoid of $Γ_0$ on $M$, and we show that the quotients of fibers of $J$ by suitable Lie subgroups are either contact or locally conformal symplectic manifolds with structures induced by the one on $M$. We show that Willett's reduced spaces are prequantizations of our reduced spaces; hence the former are completely determined by the latter. Since a symplectic manifold is prequantizable iff the symplectic form is integral, this explains why Willett's reduction can be performed only at distinguished points. As an application we obtain Kostant's prequantizations of coadjoint orbits.
