ORBIT: Autoregressive Time Series Generation via Next Frequency-Band Prediction

Deep generative models provide an effective modern solution to alleviating the problem of data scarcity by synthesizing realistic time series. However, despite the considerable progress achieved by existing deep time series generators, two key challenges remain: (1) learning hierarchical representations for heterogeneous temporal patterns; and (2) coordinating the generation process of heterogeneous temporal dynamics. To address these key bottlenecks, in this work, we propose ORBIT, a unified deep generative framework for time series. Specifically, we develop two key components: the Frequency-Hierarchical VQ-VAE (FH-VQ-VAE) and the Frequency-Band Autoregressive Transformer (FBAR). The former learns hierarchical representations by decomposing latent temporal representations into different frequency bands and applying residual quantization with increasing token budgets. The latter establishes a novel low-to-high frequency autoregressive direction, yielding a time series generation process that first constructs global temporal structures and then incrementally incorporates fine-grained temporal details. These compact designs not only disentangle heterogeneous temporal patterns for more effective representation learning but also mitigate potential interference among different temporal dynamics during generation. Extensive experiments on multiple challenging real-world benchmarks demonstrate that ORBIT achieves state-of-the-art overall performance while exhibiting superior inference efficiency compared with advanced baselines.

Adaptive Spectral-Koopman Dynamics Modeling for Temporal Domain Generalization

Temporal Domain Generalization (TDG) has emerged to address real-world streaming data with distribution shifts over time. However, existing methods are either prone to overfitting to domain-specific noise in the data space or become overly complex and less interpretable in the parameter space. To bridge these gaps, we propose \textbf{AdaSpecK}, a spectral-Koopman framework with adaptive context extraction for TDG. To mitigate noise fitting to irregularly sampled domains, we introduce spectral-regularized Koopman dynamics modeling, which applies spectral-aware filtering in the latent space to extract denoised low-frequency trajectories and learn a Koopman operator to model the system dynamics in a linearized space. To model complex historical environments under non-stationarity, we design a context-informed heterogeneous pattern extraction mechanism. Specifically, we employ a target-conditioned attention module to attend to distinct past windows, producing a dynamic, target-specific historical summary. By constructing an environmental signature from the current evolutionary pattern, our model adaptively perceives which aspects of the past context are most informative for future prediction via a learned router. Extensive experiments on eight diverse classification and regression benchmarks demonstrate that AdaSpecK achieves state-of-the-art performance. SIFT: Enhancing Time Series Foundation Models via Semantic Invariance and Structural Fidelity Fine-Tuning

Time Series Foundation Models (TSFMs) have achieved remarkable zero-shot performance through extensive pre-training on massive time series datasets. Nevertheless, due to the low-dimensional properties and diverse structural patterns of time series data, performing naive fine-tuning on TSFMs often leads to overfitting and falling into the mean-prediction trap. To address these challenges, we propose SIFT, a robust adaptation method that enhances time series foundation models by preserving Semantic Invariance and structural Fidelity throughout the fine-Tuning process. We employ semantic-invariant adversarial augmentation, which utilizes semantic spectrum decomposition to partition the semantic space and then generates perturbations within the non-core semantic subspace to bolster the model's robustness against these perturbations, mitigating overfitting. We implement a component-based structural fidelity enhancement, which facilitates component-wise mixup and imposes a reconstruction objective to improve the model's ability to preserve structural fidelity, alleviating the mean-prediction trap. Extensive experiments on representative TSFMs covering 10 real-world datasets demonstrate that SIFT can significantly enhance the performance of TSFMs.

Evaluation of Algorithms for Multi-Modality Whole Heart Segmentation: An Open-Access Grand Challenge

Knowledge of whole heart anatomy is a prerequisite for many clinical applications. Whole heart segmentation (WHS), which delineates substructures of the heart, can be very valuable for modeling and analysis of the anatomy and functions of the heart. However, automating this segmentation can be arduous due to the large variation of the heart shape, and different image qualities of the clinical data. To achieve this goal, a set of training data is generally needed for constructing priors or for training. In addition, it is difficult to perform comparisons between different methods, largely due to differences in the datasets and evaluation metrics used. This manuscript presents the methodologies and evaluation results for the WHS algorithms selected from the submissions to the Multi-Modality Whole Heart Segmentation (MM-WHS) challenge, in conjunction with MICCAI 2017. The challenge provides 120 three-dimensional cardiac images covering the whole heart, including 60 CT and 60 MRI volumes, all acquired in clinical environments with manual delineation. Ten algorithms for CT data and eleven algorithms for MRI data, submitted from twelve groups, have been evaluated. The results show that many of the deep learning (DL) based methods achieved high accuracy, even though the number of training datasets was limited. A number of them also reported poor results in the blinded evaluation, probably due to overfitting in their training. The conventional algorithms, mainly based on multi-atlas segmentation, demonstrated robust and stable performance, even though the accuracy is not as good as the best DL method in CT segmentation. The challenge, including the provision of the annotated training data and the blinded evaluation for submitted algorithms on the test data, continues as an ongoing benchmarking resource via its homepage (\url{www.sdspeople.fudan.edu.cn/zhuangxiahai/0/mmwhs/}).
