JWST view of four infant galaxies at z=8.31-8.49 in the MACS0416 field and implications for reionization

New JWST/NIRCam wide-field slitless spectroscopy provides redshifts for four z>8 galaxies located behind the lensing cluster MACS J0416.1-2403. Two of them, "Y1" and "JD", have previously reported spectroscopic redshifts based on ALMA measurements of [OIII] 88 $μ$m and/or [CII] 157.7 $μ$m lines. Y1 is a merging system of three components, and the existing redshift z=8.31 is confirmed. However, JD is at z=8.34 instead of the previously claimed z=9.28. JD's close companion, "JD-N", which was a previously discovered z>8 candidate, is now identified at the same redshift as JD. JD and JD-N form an interacting pair. A new candidate at z>8, "f090d_018", is also confirmed and is at z=8.49. These four objects are likely part of an overdensity that signposts a large structure extending ~165 kpc in projected distance and ~48.7 Mpc in radial distance. They are magnified by less than one magnitude and have intrinsic $M_{UV}$ ranging from -19.57 to -20.83 mag. Their spectral energy distributions show that the galaxies are all very young with ages ~ 4-18 Myr and stellar masses about $10^{7-8}$ ${\rm M_\odot}$. These infant galaxies have very different star formation rates ranging from a few to over a hundred $\rm{M_\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$, but only two of them (JD and f090d_018) have blue rest-frame UV slopes $β<-2.0$ indicative of a high Lyman-continuum photon escape fraction that could contribute significantly to the cosmic hydrogen-reionizing background. Interestingly, these two galaxies are the least massive and least active ones among the four. The other two systems have much flatter UV slopes largely because of their high dust extinction ($A_{\rm V}$=0.9-1.0 mag). Their much lower indicated escape fractions show that even very young, actively star-forming galaxies can have negligible contribution to reionization when they quickly form dust throughout their bodies.

Velocity-Resolved Ionization Mapping of Broad Line Region. I. Insights into Diverse Geometry and Kinematics

Broad emission lines of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) originate from the broad-line region (BLR), consisting of dense gas clouds in orbit around an accreting supermassive black hole. Understanding the geometry and kinematics of the region is crucial for gaining insights into the physics and evolution of AGNs. Conventional velocity-resolved reverberation mapping may face challenges in disentangling the degeneracy between intricate motion and geometry of this region. To address this challenge, new key constraints are required. Here, we report the discovery of an asymmetric BLR using a novel technique: velocity-resolved ionization mapping, which can map the distance of emitting gas clouds by measuring Hydrogen line ratios at different velocities. By analyzing spectroscopic monitoring data, we find that the Balmer decrement is anticorrelated with the continuum and correlated with the lags across broad emission line velocities. Some line ratio profiles deviate from the expectations for a symmetrically virialized BLR, suggesting that the red-shifted and blue-shifted gas clouds may not be equidistant from the supermassive black hole (SMBH). This asymmetric geometry might represent a formation imprint, provide new perspectives on the evolution of AGNs, and influence SMBH mass measurements.

PEARLS: Discovery of Point-Source Features Within Galaxies in the North Ecliptic Pole Time Domain Field

The first public 0.9-4.4μm NIRCam images of the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) Time Domain Field (TDF) uncovered galaxies displaying point-source features in their cores as seen in the longer wavelength filters. We visually identified a sample of 66 galaxies (~1 galaxy per arcmin2) with point-like cores and have modeled their two-dimensional light profiles with GalFit, identifying 16 galactic nuclei with measurable point-source components. GalFit suggests the visual sample is a mix of both compact stellar bulge and point-source galaxy cores. This core classification is complemented by spectral energy distribution (SED) modeling to infer the sample's active galactic nucleus (AGN) and host-galaxy parameters. For galaxies with measurable point-source components, the median fractional AGN contribution to their 0.1-30.0μm flux is 0.44, and 14/16 are color-classified AGN. We conclude that near-infrared point-source galaxy cores are signatures of AGN. In addition, we define an automated sample-selection criterion to identify these point-source features. These criteria can be used in other extant and future NIRCam images to streamline the search for galaxies with unresolved IR-luminous AGN. The James Webb Space Telescope's superb angular resolution and sensitivity at infrared wavelengths is resurrecting the morphological identification of AGN.

Ionized and cold gas components in low surface brightness galaxy AGC 102004

We present the integral field spectroscopic observations of ionized gas (H$α$ and [{\ion{N}{II}}]) using the PCWI, along with deep CO(2-1) observations by the $^\backprime\bar{\rm U}^\backprime\bar{\rm u}$ receiver on JCMT for AGC 102004. The velocity field of H$α$ shows an anomalous distribution in the North-Western (NW) disk. The H$α$ spectrum is well-fitted by two Gaussian components, and the weak Gaussian component is dominated by the anomalous H$α$ in the NW disk. The Gaussian fit center of H$α$ emission is offset by +24.2 km s$^{-1}$ from the systemic velocity obtained from the HI emission. We derive the gas-phase metallicity, 12+log(O/H), using [{\ion{N}{II}}]$λ$6583/H$α$ ratio as a proxy. The mean value of 12+log(O/H) is 8.30 $\pm$ 0.19 over the whole galaxy. The metallicity in the outer disk is lower than the detection limit of 7.72, indicating the metallicity gradient exists in AGC 102004. We speculate a minor/mini-merger event could have happened to the NW disk. CO(2-1) emission has non-detection in AGC 102004, reaching a noise level of 0.33 mK smoothed to 30 km s$^{-1}$. The upper limit of molecular gas mass in AGC 102004 is 2.1 $\times$ 10$^7$ M$\odot$ with X$_{\rm CO}$ = 3.02$\times$10$^{20}$ cm$^{-2}$ (K km s$^{-1}$)$^{-1}$. The M$_{\rm H_2}$/M$^{\rm corr}_{\rm HI}$ of AGC 102004 is lower than 0.0037 and lower than that of normal galaxies.

EPOCHS I. The Discovery and Star Forming Properties of Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization at $6.5 < z < 18$ with PEARLS and Public JWST data

We present in this paper the discovery, properties, and a catalog of 1165 high redshift $6.5 < z < 18$ galaxies found in deep JWST NIRCam imaging from the GTO PEARLS survey combined with data from JWST public fields. We describe our bespoke homogeneous reduction process and our analysis of these areas including the NEP, CEERS, GLASS, NGDEEP, JADES, and ERO SMACS-0723 fields with over 214 arcmin$^{2}$ imaged to depths of $\sim 30$ mag. We describe our rigorous methods for identifying these galaxies, involving the use of Lyman-break strength, detection significance criteria, visual inspection, and integrated photometric redshifts probability distributions predominately at high redshift. Our sample is a robust and highly pure collection of distant galaxies from which we also remove brown dwarf stars, and calculate completeness and contamination from simulations. We include a summary of the basic properties of these $z > 6.5$ galaxies, including their redshift distributions, UV absolute magnitudes, and star formation rates. Our study of these young galaxies reveals a wide range of stellar population properties as seen in their colors and SED fits which we compare to stellar population models, indicating a range of star formation histories, dust, AGN and/or nebular emission. We find a strong trend exists between stellar mass and $(U-V)$ color, as well as the existence of the `main-sequence' of star formation for galaxies as early as $z \sim 12$. This indicates that stellar mass, or an underlying variable correlating with stellar mass, is driving galaxy formation, in agreement with simulation predictions. We also discover ultra-high redshift candidates at $z > 12$ in our sample and describe their properties. Finally, we note a significant observed excess of galaxies compared to models at $z > 12$, revealing a tension between predictions and our observations.

Skywork-Math: Data Scaling Laws for Mathematical Reasoning in Large Language Models -- The Story Goes On

In this paper, we investigate the underlying factors that potentially enhance the mathematical reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). We argue that the data scaling law for math reasoning capabilities in modern LLMs is far from being saturated, highlighting how the model's quality improves with increases in data quantity. To support this claim, we introduce the Skywork-Math model series, supervised fine-tuned (SFT) on common 7B LLMs using our proposed 2.5M-instance Skywork-MathQA dataset. Skywork-Math 7B has achieved impressive accuracies of 51.2% on the competition-level MATH benchmark and 83.9% on the GSM8K benchmark using only SFT data, outperforming an early version of GPT-4 on MATH. The superior performance of Skywork-Math models contributes to our novel two-stage data synthesis and model SFT pipelines, which include three different augmentation methods and a diverse seed problem set, ensuring both the quantity and quality of Skywork-MathQA dataset across varying difficulty levels. Most importantly, we provide several practical takeaways to enhance math reasoning abilities in LLMs for both research and industry applications.

A Strongly Lensed Dusty Starburst of an Intrinsic Disk Morphology at Photometric Redshift of $z_{\rm ph}>7$

We present COSBO-7, a strong millimeter (mm) source known for more than sixteen years but was just revealed its near-to-mid-IR counterpart by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The precise pin-pointing by the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) on the exquisite NIRCam and MIRI images show that it is a background source gravitationally lensed by a single foreground galaxy, and the analysis of its spectral energy distribution by different tools is in favor of photometric redshift at $z_{\rm ph}>7$. Strikingly, our lens modeling based on the JWST data shows that it has a regular, disk morphology in the source plane. The dusty region giving rise to the far-IR-to-mm emission seems to be confined to a limited region to one side of the disk and has a high dust temperature of $>90$~K. The galaxy is experiencing starburst both within and outside of this dusty region. After taking the lensing magnification of $μ\approx 2.5-3.6$ into account, the intrinsic star formation rate is several hundred $M_\odot$~yr$^{-1}$ both within the dusty region and across the more extended stellar disk, and the latter already has $>10^{10}M_\odot$ of stars in place. If it is indeed at $z>7$, COSBO-7 presents an extraordinary case that is against the common wisdom about galaxy formation in the early universe; simply put, its existence poses a critical question to be answered: how could a massive disk galaxy come into being so early in the universe and sustain its regular morphology in the middle of an enormous starburst?

FASHI: A search for extragalactic OH megamasers with FAST

The FAST All Sky HI survey (FASHI) is broader in frequency band and sky volume, and deeper in detection sensitivity than the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA survey (ALFALFA). To efficiently expand the sample of OH megamasers (OHMs), whose strongest line has a rest frequency of 1667.35903 MHz, we directly matched the IRAS Point Source Catalog Redshift (PSCz) catalog with the corresponding FASHI data cube. From 145 PSCz sources already covered by FASHI, we obtained 27 OHMs with a detection rate of 18.6%, including 9 previously known and 18 new ones, within a redshift range of $0.14314\lesssim z_{\rm OH} \lesssim0.27656$. We also measured the hyperfine ratio of nine OHMs between the 1667 and 1665 MHz lines. The ratio ranges from 1.32 to 15.22, with an average of $R_{1667:1665}=4.74$. In a fit to the $L_{\rm OH}$ vs. $L_{\rm FIR}$ relation, we have ${\rm log}L_{\rm OH}= (1.57\pm0.10){\rm log}L_{\rm FIR}-(15.80\pm1.19)$, which is almost the same as derived from previous observations. As expected, since the OHM sample was selected by cross-correlation with the IRAS-selected PSCz, our detected OHMs are [ultra]luminous infrared galaxies ([U]LIRGs). However, not all [U]LIRGs have detectable OH emission, suggesting that the OH emission may be triggered within a specific stage of the merger or can only be seen in specific orientations. In general, FAST, with its 19-beam array and UWB receiver, will be a powerful tool for observing more OHMs and unraveling their mystery in the future.

Topological water-wave structures manipulating particles

Topological wave structures, such as vortices and skyrmions, appear in a variety of quantum and classical wave fields, including optics and acoustics. In particular, optical vortices have found numerous applications ranging from quantum information to astrophysics. Furthermore, both optical and acoustic structured waves are crucial for manipulation of small particles, from atoms to macroscopic biological objects. Here we report on the controllable generation of topological structures -- wave vortices, skyrmions, and polarization Möbius strips -- in interfering gravity water waves. Most importantly, we demonstrate efficient manipulation of subwavelength and wavelength-order floating particles with topologically structured water waves. This includes trapping of the particles in the high-intensity field zones, as well as controllable orbital and spinning motions due to the orbital and spin angular momenta of water waves. Our results reveal the water-wave counterpart of optical and acoustic manipulations, which paves the avenue for applications in hydrodynamics and microfluidics.

Skywork-MoE: A Deep Dive into Training Techniques for Mixture-of-Experts Language Models

In this technical report, we introduce the training methodologies implemented in the development of Skywork-MoE, a high-performance mixture-of-experts (MoE) large language model (LLM) with 146 billion parameters and 16 experts. It is initialized from the pre-existing dense checkpoints of our Skywork-13B model. We explore the comparative effectiveness of upcycling versus training from scratch initializations. Our findings suggest that the choice between these two approaches should consider both the performance of the existing dense checkpoints and the MoE training budget. We highlight two innovative techniques: gating logit normalization, which improves expert diversification, and adaptive auxiliary loss coefficients, allowing for layer-specific adjustment of auxiliary loss coefficients. Our experimental results validate the effectiveness of these methods. Leveraging these techniques and insights, we trained our upcycled Skywork-MoE on a condensed subset of our SkyPile corpus. The evaluation results demonstrate that our model delivers strong performance across a wide range of benchmarks.

LongSkywork: A Training Recipe for Efficiently Extending Context Length in Large Language Models

We introduce LongSkywork, a long-context Large Language Model (LLM) capable of processing up to 200,000 tokens. We provide a training recipe for efficiently extending context length of LLMs. We identify that the critical element in enhancing long-context processing capability is to incorporate a long-context SFT stage following the standard SFT stage. A mere 200 iterations can convert the standard SFT model into a long-context model. To reduce the effort in collecting and annotating data for long-context language modeling, we develop two novel methods for creating synthetic data. These methods are applied during the continual pretraining phase as well as the Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) phase, greatly enhancing the training efficiency of our long-context LLMs. Our findings suggest that synthetic long-context SFT data can surpass the performance of data curated by humans to some extent. LongSkywork achieves outstanding performance on a variety of long-context benchmarks. In the Needle test, a benchmark for long-context information retrieval, our models achieved perfect accuracy across multiple context spans. Moreover, in realistic application scenarios, LongSkywork-13B demonstrates performance on par with Claude2.1, the leading long-context model, underscoring the effectiveness of our proposed methods.

A Complete 16 $μ$m selected Galaxy Sample at $z \sim 1$. II: Morphological Analysis

We present morphological analysis of the 16$μ$m flux-density-limited galaxy sample at 0.8$<z<$1.3 from arXiv:2103.04585. At the targeted redshift, the 16$μ$m emission corresponds to the Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) feature from intense star formation, or dust heated by AGN (Active galactic nuclei). Our sample of 479 galaxies are dominated by Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs, 67\%) in three CANDLES fields (EGS, GOODS-N, and GOODS-S), and are further divided into AGN dominated, star-forming dominated, composite, and blue compact galaxies by their spectral energy distribution (SED) types. The majority of our sample (71\%) have disky morphologies, with the few AGN dominated galaxies being more bulge-dominanted than the star-forming dominated and composite galaxies. The distribution of our sample on the Gini vs. M$_{\text{20}}$ plane is consistent with previous studies, where the Sérsic index $n$ shows an increasing trend towards the smaller M$_{\text{20}}$ and higher Gini region below the dividing line for mergers. The subsample of ULIRGs follow a steep size-mass relation that is closer to the early-type galaxies. In addition, as the 4.5 $μ$m luminosity excess ($L_{4.5}^{Exc}$, proxy for AGN strength) increases, our sample appear to be more bulge-dominated (i.e. higher $n$). Based on the sSFR and compactness ($log_{10}Σ_{1.5}, Σ_{1.5}=M_*/R_e^{1.5}$) diagram, the majority of our LIRG-dominated galaxy sample follow a secular evolution track, and their distribution can be explained without involving any merging activities. Out of the 16 ULIRGs in our sample, six are compact with strong AGN contributions, likely evolving along the fast-track from more violent activities.

A strong He II $λ$1640 emitter with extremely blue UV spectral slope at $z=8.16$: presence of Pop III stars?

Cosmic hydrogen reionization and cosmic production of first metals are major phase transitions of the universe occurring during the first billion years after the Big Bang, however these are still underexplored observationally. Using the JWST NIRSpec prism spectroscopy, we report the discovery of a sub-$L_\ast$ galaxy at $z_{\rm spec}=8.1623\pm0.0007$, dubbed RXJ2129-z8HeII, via the detection of a series of strong rest-frame UV/optical nebular emission lines and the clear Lyman break. RXJ2129-z8HeII shows a pronounced UV continuum with an extremely steep (i.e. blue) spectral slope of $β=-2.53_{-0.07}^{+0.06}$, the steepest amongst all spectroscopically confirmed galaxies at $z_{\rm spec}\gtrsim7$, in support of its very hard ionizing spectrum that could lead to a significant leakage of its ionizing flux. Therefore, RXJ2129-z8HeII is representative of the key galaxy population driving the cosmic reionization. More importantly, we detect a strong He II $λ$1640 emission line in its spectrum, one of the highest redshifts at which such a line is robustly detected. Its high rest-frame equivalent width (${\rm EW}=21\pm4$ Angstrom) and extreme flux ratios with respect to UV metal and Balmer lines raise the possibility that part of RXJ2129-z8HeII's stellar populations could be Pop III-like. Through careful photoionization modeling, we show that the physically calibrated phenomenological models of the ionizing spectra of Pop III stars with strong mass loss can successfully reproduce the emission line flux ratios observed in RXJ2129-z8HeII. Assuming the Eddington limit, the total mass of the Pop III stars within this system is estimated to be $7.8\pm1.4\times10^5 M_\odot$. To date, this galaxy presents the most compelling case in the early universe where trace Pop III stars might coexist with metal-enriched populations.

Birds of a Feather: Resolving Stellar Mass Assembly With JWST/NIRCam in a Pair of Kindred $z \sim 2$ Dusty Star-forming Galaxies Lensed by the PLCK G165.7+67.0 Cluster

We present a new parametric lens model for the G165.7+67.0 galaxy cluster, which was discovered with $Planck$ through its bright submillimeter flux, originating from a pair of extraordinary dusty star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) at $z\approx 2.2$. Using JWST and interferometric mm/radio observations, we characterize the intrinsic physical properties of the DSFGs, which are separated by only $\sim 1^{\prime\prime}$ (8 kpc) and a velocity difference $ΔV \lesssim 600~{\rm km}~{\rm s}^{-1}$ in the source plane, and thus likely undergoing a major merger. Boasting intrinsic star formation rates ${\rm SFR}_{\rm IR} = 320 \pm 70$ and $400 \pm 80~ M_\odot~{\rm yr}^{-1}$, stellar masses ${\rm log}[M_\star/M_\odot] = 10.2 \pm 0.1$ and $10.3 \pm 0.1$, and dust attenuations $A_V = 1.5 \pm 0.3$ and $1.2 \pm 0.3$, they are remarkably similar objects. We perform spatially-resolved pixel-by-pixel SED fitting using rest-frame near-UV to near-IR imaging from JWST/NIRCam for both galaxies, resolving some stellar structures down to 100 pc scales. Based on their resolved specific SFRs and $UVJ$ colors, both DSFGs are experiencing significant galaxy-scale star formation events. If they are indeed interacting gravitationally, this strong starburst could be the hallmark of gas that has been disrupted by an initial close passage. In contrast, the host galaxy of the recently discovered triply-imaged SN H0pe has a much lower SFR than the DSFGs, and we present evidence for the onset of inside-out quenching and large column densities of dust even in regions of low specific SFR. Based on the intrinsic SFRs of the DSFGs inferred from UV through FIR SED modeling, this pair of objects alone is predicted to yield an observable $1.1 \pm 0.2~{\rm CCSNe~yr}^{-1}$, making this cluster field ripe for continued monitoring.

Almost Optically Dark Galaxies in DECaLS (I): Detection, Optical Properties and Possible Origins

We report the discovery of eight optical counterparts of ALFALFA extragalactic objects from DECaLS, five of which are discovered for the first time. These objects were flagged as HI emission sources with no optical counterparts in SDSS before. Multi-band data reveal their unusual physical properties. They are faint and blue ($g-r=-0.35\sim0.55$), with quite low surface brightness ($μ_{\rm g,peak}=24.88\sim26.41\,{\rm mag}/{\rm arcsec}^2$), irregular morphologies, low stellar masses ($log_{10}(M_{*}/M_\odot)=5.27\sim7.15$), low star formation rates ($SFR=0.21\sim9.24\times10^{-3}\,{M_\odot}\,{\rm yr}^{-1}$), and remarkably high HI-to-stellar mass ratios ($log_{10}(M_{\rm HI}/M_{*}) = 1.72\sim3.22$, except AGC\,215415). They deviate from the scaling relations between HI and optical properties defined by the ALFALFA sample and the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation. They agree well with the main sequence of star-forming galaxies but exhibit low star-forming efficiency. Based on their physical properties and environments, we speculate that six of these objects may have originated from tidal processes, while the remaining two appear to have isolated origins. They may have had a relatively calm evolutionary history and only begun to form stars recently.

Activating Wider Areas in Image Super-Resolution

The prevalence of convolution neural networks (CNNs) and vision transformers (ViTs) has markedly revolutionized the area of single-image super-resolution (SISR). To further boost the SR performances, several techniques, such as residual learning and attention mechanism, are introduced, which can be largely attributed to a wider range of activated area, that is, the input pixels that strongly influence the SR results. However, the possibility of further improving SR performance through another versatile vision backbone remains an unresolved challenge. To address this issue, in this paper, we unleash the representation potential of the modern state space model, i.e., Vision Mamba (Vim), in the context of SISR. Specifically, we present three recipes for better utilization of Vim-based models: 1) Integration into a MetaFormer-style block; 2) Pre-training on a larger and broader dataset; 3) Employing complementary attention mechanism, upon which we introduce the MMA. The resulting network MMA is capable of finding the most relevant and representative input pixels to reconstruct the corresponding high-resolution images. Comprehensive experimental analysis reveals that MMA not only achieves competitive or even superior performance compared to state-of-the-art SISR methods but also maintains relatively low memory and computational overheads (e.g., +0.5 dB PSNR elevation on Manga109 dataset with 19.8 M parameters at the scale of 2). Furthermore, MMA proves its versatility in lightweight SR applications. Through this work, we aim to illuminate the potential applications of state space models in the broader realm of image processing rather than SISR, encouraging further exploration in this innovative direction.

EPOCHS IX. When cosmic dawn breaks: Evidence for evolved stellar populations in $7 < z < 12$ galaxies from PEARLS GTO and public NIRCam imaging

The presence of evolved stars in high-redshift galaxies can place valuable indirect constraints on the onset of star formation in the Universe. Thus we use PEARLS GTO and public NIRCam photometric data to search for Balmer-break candidate galaxies at $7 < z < 12$. We find that our Balmer-break candidates at $z \sim 10.5$ tend to be older (115 Myr), have lower inferred [O III] + H$β$ emission line equivalent widths (120 Å), have lower specific star formation rates (6 Gyr$^{-1}$) and redder UV slopes ($β= -1.8$) than our control sample of galaxies. However, these trends all become less strong at $z \sim 8$, where the F444W filter now probes the strong rest-frame optical emission lines, thus providing additional constraints on the current star formation activity of these galaxies. Indeed, the bursty nature of Epoch of Reionisation galaxies can lead to a disconnect between their current SED profiles and their more extended star-formation histories. We discuss how strong emission lines, the cumulative effect of weak emission lines, dusty continua and AGN can all contribute to the photometric excess seen in the rest-frame optical, thus mimicking the signature of a Balmer break. Additional medium-band imaging will thus be essential to more robustly identify Balmer-break galaxies. However, the Balmer break alone cannot serve as a definitive proxy for the stellar age of galaxies, being complexly dependent on the star-formation history. Ultimately, deep NIRSpec continuum spectroscopy and MIRI imaging will provide the strongest indirect constraints on the formation era of the first galaxies in the Universe, thereby revealing when cosmic dawn breaks.

EPOCHS Paper II: The Ultraviolet Luminosity Function from $7.5<z<13.5$ using 180 square arcminutes of deep, blank-fields from the PEARLS Survey and Public JWST data

We present an analysis of the ultraviolet luminosity function (UV LF) and star formation rate density of distant galaxies ($7.5 < z < 13.5$) in the `blank' fields of the Prime Extragalactic Areas for Reionization Science (PEARLS) survey combined with Early Release Science (ERS) data from the CEERS, GLASS, NGDEEP surveys/fields and the first data release of JADES. We use strict quality cuts on EAZY photometric redshifts to obtain a reliable selection and characterisation of high-redshift ($z>6.5$) galaxies from a consistently processed set of deep, near-infrared imaging. Within an area of 180 arcmin$^{2}$, we identify 1046 candidate galaxies at redshifts $z>6.5$ and we use this sample to study the ultraviolet luminosity function (UV LF) in four redshift bins between $7.5<z<13.5$. The measured number density of galaxies at $z=8$ and $z=9$ match those of past observations undertaken by the {\em Hubble Space Telescope} (HST). Our $z=10.5$ measurements lie between early JWST results and past HST results, indicating cosmic variance may be the cause of previous high density measurements. However, number densities of UV luminous galaxies at $z=12.5$ are high compared to predictions from simulations. When examining the star formation rate density of galaxies at this time period, our observations are still largely consistent with a constant star formation efficiency, are slightly lower than previous early estimations using JWST and support galaxy driven reionization at $z\leq8$.
