Indication for Decreasing Dispersion Measure in the Population of Repeating Fast Radio Bursts and Connection to Young Supernova Remnant Expansion

Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration, highly energetic radio transients of uncertain origin. Repeating FRBs provide an excellent population for investigating their nature, particularly through studies of parameter evolution. Out of the 63 repeaters monitored by CHIME, we select the 19 sources with more than 10 detected bursts, and examine their long-term dispersion measure (DM) evolution. Seven sources show statistically significant DM evolution and are classified as the golden sample. Of these, five exhibit a decreasing DM trend and two show an increasing trend. We then perform a binomial test under the null hypothesis that decreasing and increasing DM variation trends have equal probabilities. The current combined sample, including our golden sample and additional repeaters with reported DM change rate from the literature, gives a p-value of 0.033, supporting that decreasing DM trends are more common in the repeating FRB population. This statistical result is consistent with scenarios in that the local electron density around repeaters generally decreases with time, for example, due to expansion of a young supernova remnant (SNR). Finally, within the SNR expansion model, we provide an illustrative estimate of the SNR contributions to the DM for different ejecta masses.

Fast radio bursts generated by coherent curvature radiation from compressed bunches for FRB 20190520B

The radiation mechanism of fast radio bursts (FRBs) has been extensively studied but still remains elusive. Coherent radiation is identified as a crucial component in the FRB mechanism, with charged bunches also playing a significant role under specific circumstances. In the present research, we propose a phenomenological model that draws upon the coherent curvature radiation framework and the magnetized neutron star, taking into account the kinetic energy losses of outflow particles due to inverse Compton scattering (ICS) induced by soft photons within the magnetosphere. By integrating the ICS deceleration mechanism for particles, we hypothesize a potential compression effect on the particle number density within a magnetic tube/family, which could facilitate achieving the necessary size for coherent radiation in the radial direction. This mechanism might potentially enable the dynamic formation of bunches capable of emitting coherent curvature radiation along the curved magnetic field. Moreover, we examine the formation of bunches from an energy perspective. Our discussion suggests that within the given parameter space the formation of bunches is feasible. Finally, we apply this model to FRB 20190520B, one of the most active repeating FRBs discovered and monitored by FAST. Several observed phenomena are explained, including basic characteristics, frequency downward drifting, and bright spots within certain dynamic spectral ranges.

Statistical Analysis for the Q-factor of twin kHz QPOs

Using the recently published data of twin kHz quasi-period oscillations (QPOs) in neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), we study the different profiles between bright Z sources and less luminous Atoll sources in a statistical way. We find the quality factors of upper kHz QPOs show a narrow distribution both for Z sources and Atoll sources, which concentrate at 7.98 and 9.75 respectively, the quality factors of lower kHz QPOs show a narrow distribution for Z sources and a broader distribution for Atoll sources, which concentrate at 5.25 and 86.22 respectively. In order to investigate the relation between the quality factor and the peakfrequency of kHz QPOs, we fit the data with power-law, linear and exponential functions, respectively. There is an obvious trend that the quality factors increase with the peak frequencies both for upper and lower QPOs. The implications of our results are discussed.

Testing the Accretion-induced Field-decay and Spin-up Model for Recycled Pulsars

Millisecond radio pulsars have long been proposed to form from a spin-up recycling process in a binary system. In this paper we demonstrate that the accretion-induced field-decay and spin-up model for recycled pulsars can indeed produce those millisecond pulsars with relatively weak magnetic fields of $10^8-10^9$ G and short spin periods of a few milliseconds. Our results also suggest that the value of the currently observed highest spin frequency of millisecond pulsars may simply be constrained by the amount of mass available for accretion.

Thermodynamics of Spinor Quintom

We discuss the thermodynamic properties of dark energy (DE) with Quintom matter in spinor scenario. (1).Using the Cardy-Verlinde formula, we investigate the conditions of validity of the Generalized Second Law of thermodynamics (GSL) in the four evolutionary phases of Spinor Quintom-B model. We also clarify its relation with three cosmological entropy bounds. (2). We take thermodynamic stability of the combination between Spinor Quintom DE and the generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) perfect fluid into account, and we find that in the case of $β>0$ and $0<T<T_0$, the system we consider is thermodynamically stable. (3) Making use of the Maxwell Relation and integrability condition, we derive all thermal quantities as functions of either entropy or volume, and present the relation with quantum perturbation stability.
