JD-BP: A Joint-Decision Generative Framework for Auto-Bidding and Pricing

Auto-bidding services optimize real-time bidding strategies for advertisers under key performance indicator (KPI) constraints such as target return on investment and budget. However, uncertainties such as model prediction errors and feedback latency can cause bidding strategies to deviate from ex-post optimality, leading to inefficient allocation. To address this issue, we propose JD-BP, a Joint generative Decision framework for Bidding and Pricing. Unlike prior methods, JD-BP jointly outputs a bid value and a pricing correction term that acts additively with the payment rule such as GSP. To mitigate adverse effects of historical constraint violations, we design a memory-less Return-to-Go that encourages future value maximizing of bidding actions while the cumulated bias is handled by the pricing correction. Moreover, a trajectory augmentation algorithm is proposed to generate joint bidding-pricing trajectories from a (possibly arbitrary) base bidding policy, enabling efficient plug-and-play deployment of our algorithm from existing RL/generative bidding models. Finally, we employ an Energy-Based Direct Preference Optimization method in conjunction with a cross-attention module to enhance the joint learning performance of bidding and pricing correction. Offline experiments on the AuctionNet dataset demonstrate that JD-BP achieves state-of-the-art performance. Online A/B tests at JD.com confirm its practical effectiveness, showing a 4.70% increase in ad revenue and a 6.48% improvement in target cost.

Auto-bidding under Return-on-Spend Constraints with Uncertainty Quantification

Auto-bidding systems are widely used in advertising to automatically determine bid values under constraints such as total budget and Return-on-Spend (RoS) targets. Existing works often assume that the value of an ad impression, such as the conversion rate, is known. This paper considers the more realistic scenario where the true value is unknown. We propose a novel method that uses conformal prediction to quantify the uncertainty of these values based on machine learning methods trained on historical bidding data with contextual features, without assuming the data are i.i.d. This approach is compatible with current industry systems that use machine learning to predict values. Building on prediction intervals, we introduce an adjusted value estimator derived from machine learning predictions, and show that it provides performance guarantees without requiring knowledge of the true value. We apply this method to enhance existing auto-bidding algorithms with budget and RoS constraints, and establish theoretical guarantees for achieving high reward while keeping RoS violations low. Empirical results on both simulated and real-world industrial datasets demonstrate that our approach improves performance while maintaining computational efficiency.

Percentile Risk-Constrained Budget Pacing for Guaranteed Display Advertising in Online Optimization

Guaranteed display (GD) advertising is a critical component of advertising since it provides publishers with stable revenue and enables advertisers to target specific audiences with guaranteed impressions. However, smooth pacing control for online ad delivery presents a challenge due to significant budget disparities, user arrival distribution drift, and dynamic change between supply and demand. This paper presents robust risk-constrained pacing (RCPacing) that utilizes Lagrangian dual multipliers to fine-tune probabilistic throttling through monotonic mapping functions within the percentile space of impression performance distribution. RCPacing combines distribution drift resilience and compatibility with guaranteed allocation mechanism, enabling us to provide near-optimal online services. We also show that RCPacing achieves $O(\sqrt{T})$ dynamic regret where $T$ is the length of the horizon. RCPacing's effectiveness is validated through offline evaluations and online A/B testing conducted on Taobao brand advertising platform.

Single crystal synthesis and low-lying electronic structure of V$_3$S$_4$

We report successful growth of millimeter-sized high quality single crystals of V$_3$S$_4$, a candidate topological semimetal belonging to a low-symmetry space group and consisting of only low atomic number elements. Using density functional theory calculations and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we show that the nonmagnetic phase of monoclinic V$_3$S$_4$ hosts type-II Dirac-like quasiparticles which opens a sizable gap due to spin orbit coupling, as well as theoretical multiple nodal lines that are eliminated also by spin orbit coupling. These results suggest that relativistic effects give rise to profound modifications of the topological properties even in compounds with low-weight elements.

Intrinsic Magnetic Topological Materials

Topological states of matter possess bulk electronic structures categorized by topological invariants and edge/surface states due to the bulk-boundary correspondence. Topological materials hold great potential in the development of dissipationless spintronics, information storage, and quantum computation, particularly if combined with magnetic order intrinsically or extrinsically. Here, we review the recent progress in the exploration of intrinsic magnetic topological materials, including but not limited to magnetic topological insulators, magnetic topological metals, and magnetic Weyl semimetals. We pay special attention to their characteristic band features such as the gap of topological surface state, gapped Dirac cone induced by magnetization (either bulk or surface), Weyl nodal point/line, and Fermi arc, as well as the exotic transport responses resulting from such band features. We conclude with a brief envision for experimental explorations of new physics or effects by incorporating other orders in intrinsic magnetic topological materials.

On the topological surface states of the intrinsic magnetic topological insulator Mn-Bi-Te family

We review recent progress in the electronic structure study of intrinsic magnetic topological insulators (MnBi$_2$Te$_4$)(Bi$_2$Te$_3$)$_n$ ($n=0,1,2,3$) family. Specifically, we focus on the ubiquitously (nearly) gapless behavior of the topological surface state Dirac cone observed by photoemission spectroscopy, even though a large Dirac gap is expected because of surface ferromagnetic order. The dichotomy between experiment and theory concerning this gap behavior is perhaps the most critical and puzzling question in this frontier. We discuss various proposals accounting for the lack of magnetic effect on the topological surface state Dirac cone, which are mainly categorized into two pictures, magnetic reconfiguration, and topological surface state redistribution. Band engineering towards opening a magnetic gap of topological surface states provides great opportunities to realize quantized topological transport and axion electrodynamics at higher temperatures.

Realization of Practical Eightfold Fermions and Fourfold van Hove Singularity in TaCo$_2$Te$_2$

Space groups describing the symmetry of lattice structure allow the emergence of fermionic quasiparticles with various degeneracy in the band structure. Theoretical efforts have predicted many materials hosting fermions with the highest degeneracy, i.e., eightfold fermions, yet lacking experimental realization. Here, we explore the band degeneracies in TaCo$_2$Te$_2$ crystals. Through systematic experimental and theoretical analyses, we establish TaCo$_2$Te$_2$ as a nonsymmorphic crystal with negligible spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and long-range magnetic order. These critical properties guarantee the first realization of practical eightfold fermions and fourfold van Hove singularity, as directly observed by photoemission spectroscopy. TaCo$_2$Te$_2$ serves as a topological quantum critical platform, which can be tuned into various magnetic, topologically trivial, and nontrivial phases by adding strain, magnetic field, or SOC. The latter is demonstrated by our first-principles calculations, which show that enhancing SOC in TaCo$_2$Te$_2$ will promote the experimental observation of bulk hourglass fermions. Our results establish TaCo$_2$Te$_2$ as a unique platform to explore states of matter intertwining magnetism, correlation, symmetry, and band topology.

Type-II Dirac Nodal Lines in double-kagome-layered CsV$_8$Sb$_{12}$

Lorentz-violating type-II Dirac nodal line semimetals (DNLSs), hosting curves of band degeneracy formed by two dispersion branches with the same sign of slope, represent a novel states of matter. While being studied extensively in theory, convincing experimental evidences of type-II DNLSs remain elusive. Recently, Vanadium-based kagome materials have emerged as a fertile ground to study the interplay between lattice symmetry and band topology. In this work, we study the low-energy band structure of double-kagome-layered CsV$_8$Sb$_{12}$ and identify it as a scarce type-II DNLS protected by mirror symmetry. We have observed multiple DNLs consisting of type-II Dirac cones close to or almost at the Fermi level via angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). First-principle analyses show that spin-orbit coupling only opens a small gap, resulting effectively gapless ARPES spectra, yet generating large spin Berry curvature. These type-II DNLs, together with the interaction between a low-energy van Hove singularity and quasi-1D band as we observed in the same material, suggest CsV$_8$Sb$_{12}$ as an ideal platform for exploring novel transport properties such as chiral anomaly, the Klein tunneling and fractional quantum Hall effect.
