Interference of the evolutions of Rb and Na Bose-Einstein condensates

Spin evolution of a mixture of two species of spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates (Rb and Na) has been investigated beyond the mean field theory. Both analytical expression and numerical results on the populations of spin-components are obtained. The interference is found to depend on the initial states and the inter-species interaction sensitively. A number of phenomena arising from the interference have been predicted. In particular, periodic behavior and the alternate appearances of a zone of oscillation and a long quiet zone are found.

Effect of magnetic fields on the spin evolution of non-polarized 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensates

The spin mixing dynamics of spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates with zero magnetization and under an external magnetic field is investigated. The time-dependent solutions are obtained via a diagonalization of the Hamiltonian, which has a simple form under the single mode approximation. The features of evolution are compared in detail with those with the field removed so as to emphasize the effect of the field, which can induce strong oscillation in population of atoms in spin component 0 . A new mode of oscillation characterized by a high frequency and a low frequency, is found when the field is sufficiently strong.

Fractional Aharonov-Bohm oscillation of a two-layer ring with two electrons

When a circular ring suffers a special topological transformation, it becomes a two-layer ring. Due to the special topology of the two-layer ring, orbital angular momenta are allowed to be a half-integer, this would affect the traditional Aharonov-Bohm oscillation (ABO). In this paper the fractional ABO of the ground state energy, persistent current, and dipole transition of a two-layer ring with two electrons has been studied. Collective and internal coordinates $θ_{C}$ and $ϕ$ have been introduced. Based on them a very simple formula for the current has been obtained, the symmetry constraint imposed on the dipole transition has been clarified, a strict relation between the photon energies of the dipole radiation and the persistent current of the ground state has been found. Comparing with the one-layer rings, the period of the fractional ABO of the two-layer rings becomes much shorter.

Spin evolution of spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates

An analytical formula is obtained to describe the evolution of the average populations of spin components of spin-1 atomic gases. The formula is derived from the exact time-dependent solution of the Hamiltonian $H_{S}=c mathbf{S}^{2}$ without using approximation. Therefore it goes beyond the mean field theory and provides a general, accurate, and complete description for the whole process of non-dissipative evolution starting from various initial states. The numerical results directly given by the formula coincide qualitatively well with existing experimental data, and also with other theoretical results from solving dynamic differential equations. For some special cases of initial state, instead of undergoing strong oscillation as found previously, the evolution is found to go on very steadily in a very long duration.

Density oscillation in highly flattened quantum elliptic rings and tunable strong dipole radiation

A narrow elliptic ring containing an electron threaded by a magnetic field B is studied. When the ring is highly flattened, the increase of B would lead to a big energy gap between the ground and excited states, and therefore lead to a strong emission of dipole photons. The photon frequency can be tuned in a wide range by changing B and/or the shape of the ellipse. The particle density is found to oscillate from a pattern of distribution to another pattern back and forth against $B$. This is a new kind of Aharonov-Bohm oscillation originating from symmetry breaking and is different from the usual oscillation of persistent current.

Oscillation bands of condensates on a ring: Beyond the mean field theory

The Hamiltonian of a N-boson system confined on a ring with zero spin and repulsive interaction is diagonalized. The excitation of a pair of p-wave-particles rotating reversely appears to be a basic mode. The fluctuation of many of these excited pairs provides a mechanism of oscillation, the states can be thereby classified into oscillation bands. The particle correlation is studied intuitively via the two-body densities. Bose-clustering originating from the symmetrization of wave functions is found, which leads to the appearance of 1-, 2-, and 3-cluster structures. The motion is divided into being collective and relative, this leads to the establishment of a relation between the very high vortex states and the low-lying states.

Characteristic frequency of the magnetic radiation of spinor condensates

The magnetic radiation of the fully-condensed states of $^{23}$Na condensates have been studied. A narrow characteristic spectral line with a wave length proportional to N^(-2/5) (N is the number of particles) and with a probability of transition proportional to N^(17/5) emitted (absorbed) by the condensate was found. It implies that short wave radiation with a huge probability of transition can be obtained if numerous atoms are trapped. A new technique developed by the authors, namely, the analytical forms of the fractional parentage coefficients, was used to calculate analytically the matrix elements between the total spin-states.
