Geometric Approach to Light Rings in Axially Symmetric Spacetimes

Circular photon orbits have become an attractive topic in recent years. They play extremely important roles in black hole shadows, gravitational lensings, quasi-normal modes, and spacetime topological properties. In our recent work, \href{https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.106.L021501}{Phys. Rev. D \textbf{106}, L021501 (2022)}, a geometric approach to circular photon orbits was proposed for spherically symmetric spacetimes. In the present study, we extend this geometric approach from spherically symmetric spacetimes to axially symmetric spacetimes. In this geometric approach, light rings in the equatorial plane are determined by the intrinsic curvatures in the optical geometry of Lorentz spacetime, which gives rise to a Randers-Finsler geometry in axially symmetric cases. Specifically, light rings can be precisely determined by the vanishing of geodesic curvature, and the stability of light rings is classified using the intrinsic flag curvature in Randers-Finsler optical geometry. This geometric approach presented in this work is generally applicable to any stationary and axially symmetric spacetime, without imposing any restriction on the spacetime metric forms. Furthermore, we provide a rigorous demonstration to show that our geometric approach yields results that are completely equivalent to those derived from the conventional approach (based on the effective potential of photons).

Relativistic photoionization of H isoelectronic series including plasma shielding effects

With plasma shielding effects of the Debye-Hückel model, we investigate the relativistic photoionization processes of H, Nb$^{40+}$ and Pb$^{81+}$ plasmas in the H-isoelectronic series. The shielded nuclear potential of Yukawa-type experienced by the electron is parameterized by Debye-length $D$. To account for relativistic effects non- perturbatively, we solve the Dirac equation for the bound as well as continuum wavefunctions. Contributions from multipole fields are calculated for high incident photon energies, while the angular distribution and spin polarization parameters of photoelectrons are provided in the electric-dipole approximation. Our results of photoionization cross sections for the H plasma agree with other available theoretical calculations. The interplay between the relativistic and plasma shielding effects on the photoionization parameters is also studied. \keywords{Photoionization, Multipole effect, Debye plasma, Hydrogen atom, Hydrogen-like ions

General tree-level amplitudes by factorization limits

To find boundary contributions is a rather difficult problem when applying the BCFW recursion relation. In this paper, we propose an approach to bypass this problem by calculating general tree amplitudes that contain no polynomial using factorization limits. More explicitly, we construct an expression iteratively, which produces correct factorization limits for all physical poles, and does not contain other poles, then it should be the correct amplitude. To some extent, this approach can be considered as an alternative way to find boundary contributions. To demonstrate our approach, we present several examples: $ϕ^4$ theory, pure gauge theory, Einstein-Maxwell theory, and Yukawa theory. While the amplitude allows the existence of polynomials which satisfy correct mass dimension and helicities, this approach is not applicable to determine the full amplitude.

Determination of Boundary Contributions in Recursion Relation

In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to systematically determine the missing boundary contributions, when one uses the BCFW on-shell recursion relation to calculate tree amplitudes for general quantum field theories. After an instruction of the algorithm, we will use several examples to demonstrate its application, including amplitudes of color-ordered phi-4 theory, Yang-Mills theory, Einstein-Maxwell theory and color-ordered Yukawa theory with phi-4 interaction.
