Cluster-based Contrastive Disentangling for Generalized Zero-Shot Learning

Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) aims to recognize both seen and unseen classes by training only the seen classes, in which the instances of unseen classes tend to be biased towards the seen class. In this paper, we propose a Cluster-based Contrastive Disentangling (CCD) method to improve GZSL by alleviating the semantic gap and domain shift problems. Specifically, we first cluster the batch data to form several sets containing similar classes. Then, we disentangle the visual features into semantic-unspecific and semantic-matched variables, and further disentangle the semantic-matched variables into class-shared and class-unique variables according to the clustering results. The disentangled learning module with random swapping and semantic-visual alignment bridges the semantic gap. Moreover, we introduce contrastive learning on semantic-matched and class-unique variables to learn high intra-set and intra-class similarity, as well as inter-set and inter-class discriminability. Then, the generated visual features conform to the underlying characteristics of general images and have strong discriminative information, which alleviates the domain shift problem well. We evaluate our proposed method on four datasets and achieve state-of-the-art results in both conventional and generalized settings.

Quantum plasmonic hot-electron injection in lateral WSe2/MoSe2 heterostructures

Lateral two-dimensional (2D) transitional metal dichalcogenide (TMD) heterostructures have recently attracted a wide attention as promising materials for optoelectronic nanodevices. Due to the nanoscale width of lateral heterojunctions, the study of their optical properties is challenging and requires using subwavelength optical characterization techniques. We investigated the photoresponse of a lateral 2D WSe2/MoSe2 heterostructure using tip-enhanced photoluminescence (TEPL) with nanoscale spatial resolution and with picoscale tip-sample distance dependence. We demonstrate the observation of quantum plasmonic effects in 2D heterostructures on a non-metallic substrate, and we report the nano-optical measurements of the lateral 2D TMD heterojunction width of ~ 150 nm and the charge tunneling distance of ~ 20 pm. Controlling the plasmonic tip location allows for both nano-optical imaging and plasmon-induced hot electron injection into the heterostructure. By adjusting the tip-sample distance, we demonstrated the controllability of the hot-electron injection via the competition of two quantum plasmonic photoluminescence (PL) enhancement and quenching mechanisms. The directional charge transport in the depletion region leads to the increased hot electron injection, enhancing the MoSe2 PL signal. The properties of the directional hot-electron injection in the quantum plasmonic regime make the lateral 2D MoSe2/WSe2 heterostructures promising for quantum nanodevices with tunable photoresponse.

Learning Inverse Mapping by Autoencoder based Generative Adversarial Nets

The inverse mapping of GANs'(Generative Adversarial Nets) generator has a great potential value.Hence, some works have been developed to construct the inverse function of generator by directly learning or adversarial learning. While the results are encouraging, the problem is highly challenging and the existing ways of training inverse models of GANs have many disadvantages, such as hard to train or poor performance.Due to these reasons, we propose a new approach based on using inverse generator ($IG$) model as encoder and pre-trained generator ($G$) as decoder of an AutoEncoder network to train the $IG$ model. In the proposed model, the difference between the input and output, which are both the generated image of pre-trained GAN's generator, of AutoEncoder is directly minimized. The optimizing method can overcome the difficulty in training and inverse model of an non one-to-one function. We also applied the inverse model of GANs' generators to image searching and translation. The experimental results prove that the proposed approach works better than the traditional approaches in image searching.

Nano-optical imaging of monolayer MoSe2 using tip-enhanced photoluminescence

Band gap tuning in two-dimensional transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is crucial in fabricating new optoelectronic devices. High resolution photoluminescence (PL) microscopy is needed for accurate band gap characterization. We performed tip-enhanced photoluminescence (TEPL) measurements of monolayer MoSe2 with nanoscale spatial resolution, providing an improved characterization of the band gap correlated with the topography compared with the conventional far field spectroscopy. We also observed PL shifts at the edges and investigated the spatial dependence of the TEPL enhancement factors.
