An ERP Study on Recursive Locative Processing in Mandarin-Speaking Children with Autism

Recursion enables the generation of hierarchical linguistic structures but imposes substantial processing demands during real-time comprehension. While difficulties with complex syntax have been reported in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the temporal dynamics of recursive processing remain poorly understood. This study used event-related potentials (ERPs) to examine how Mandarin-speaking children with ASD process two-level recursive locative constructions. Twenty-four children (12 ASD, 12 typically developing, TD) participated in a cross-modal sentence-picture matching task. Neural responses were analyzed across three processing stages associated with structural prediction (P200), semantic integration (N400), and syntactic reanalysis (P600), with mental age controlled. Results revealed a systematic divergence between groups. TD children showed clear P200 and P600 modulation in response to structural mismatch, whereas ASD children exhibited attenuated early differentiation and reduced late reanalysis effects. In contrast, ASD children showed enhanced N400 responses under mismatch conditions, indicating increased semantic integration demands. In addition, the ASD group displayed significantly greater inter-individual variability in hemispheric lateralization, although lateralization strength was not associated with receptive vocabulary performance. These findings support a cascading account in which reduced early predictive engagement in ASD leads to increased integration costs and diminished reanalysis efficiency during recursive processing. More broadly, the results highlight the importance of both temporal processing dynamics and neural variability in understanding language differences in ASD.

Towards 3D heart mesh generation using contactless radar imaging and physics-informed neural network

Cardiac function evaluation necessitates continuous, non-invasive monitoring, a capability limited in MRI. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar and its Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode offer a privacy-preserving and portable point-of-care clinical applications. However, reconstructing high-fidelity 3D cardiac geometry from SAR remains an open challenge. Traditional radar methods generate sparse point clouds that lack continuous surface topology. Meanwhile, direct application of optical reconstruction networks performs poorly due to the severe speckle noise and ambiguous boundaries inherent in SAR images. To bridge this gap, we propose SAR2Mesh, a novel framework that reformulates the task as a coarse-to-fine mesh deformation process. By initializing with a topological template, our approach explicitly preserves anatomical connectivity through progressive mesh deformation. We introduce a geometry-aware feature projection module to extract multi-view features via 3D-to-2D sampling, and a physics-informed radar loss to enforce consistency between the predicted geometry and raw radar echoes. Furthermore, we present Cardiac Mesh-SAR, the first large-scale paired SAR-mesh dataset. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SAR2Mesh significantly outperforms existing image-based baselines, achieving accurate and physically consistent cardiac reconstructions.

Stability of Charge Collection Efficiency and Time Resolution in 4H-SiC PIN Diodes Under X-ray Irradiation

This study evaluates the radiation tolerance of a 4H-SiC PIN detector under X-ray irradiation up to \SI{2}{MGy} (Si) at \SI{160}{keV}. The detector features a fully epitaxial vertical PIN structure with mesa terminations and field plates. Comprehensive pre- and post-irradiation characterization includes I-V/C-V measurements, charge collection efficiency (CCE) and timing resolution tests using $\beta$-particles ($^{90}$Sr). After \SI{2}{MGy} irradiation, the reverse leakage current remains at an ultralow level of $\sim 10^{-11}$ \si{A/cm^2} at \SI{-300}{V} with negligible degradation. C-V characteristics are basically consistent, with full depletion at \SI{~130}{V}. CCE for $\beta$-particles decreases by less than 5\%. The detector maintains good timing resolution: \SI{21}{ps} before and \SI{31}{ps} after irradiation, with jitter increasing moderately. These results demonstrate stable performance under extreme X-ray exposure, highlighting the detector's potential for radiation-hard applications in high-energy physics, space missions, and nuclear reactor monitoring.

The study of 4H-SiC LGAD after proton radiation

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising material for radiation monitoring in harsh environments, due to its low dark current, high breakdown voltage, high thermal conductivity, and radiation hardness.~This work investigates a SiC-based Low-Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD), named SICAR, with a gain factor of~2 to 3, under 80 MeV proton irradiation up to $1\times 10^{14}$~$n_{eq}/cm^{2}$. Electrical characterization via I-V, C-V, and $\alpha$ particle injection reveals an increase in threshold voltage and a 2 to 4 order of magnitude reduction in leakage current, while charge collection efficiency decreases by about 50\%. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and capacitance deep-level transient spectroscopy (C-DLTS) were employed to characterize the lattice structure and deep-level defects before and after irradiation. Deep-level defect characteristics were integrated into TCAD simulations to develop an electrical degradation model for SiC LGADs. A linear defect-flux relationship is established in the model, showing agreement with experimental results.

Simulation of radiation damage effect on silicon detectors using RASER

Silicon detectors play a crucial role in high energy physics experiments. In future high energy physics experiments, silicon detectors will be exposed to extremely high fluence environment, which can significantly affect their performance. It is important to understand the electrical behavior of detectors after irradiation. In this study, an irradiation simulation framework is constructed in RASER to simulate leakage current and charge collection effciency. The defect parameters are obtained from the Hamburg penta trap model (HPTM). Based on this work, we predict the similar silicon inner tracker which under a ten-year CEPC Higgs mode run can still maintain over 90% charge collection efficiency.

Children's Acquisition of Tail-recursion Sequences: A Review of Locative Recursion and Possessive Recursion as Examples

Recursion is the nature of human natural language. Since Chomsky proposed generative grammar, many scholars have studied recursion either theoretically or empirically. However, by observing children's acquisition of tail recursion sequences, we can verify the nativism of language supported by universal grammar and reveal the cognitive mechanism of human brain. To date, our understanding of children's acquisition path of recursion and influencing factors still remain controversial. This systematic review summarizes the research of tail recursive sequence by taking possessive recursion and locative recursion as examples, focusing on the experimental methods, acquisition paths, and influencing factors of tail recursive sequence. The current behavioural experiments reveal that, the debate about children's performance revolves around: 1) Gradual acquisition or synchronous acquisition. 2) symmetry or asymmetry between the acquisition of locative recursion sequences and possessive recursion sequences. We presume that children can acquire recursion quickly in a short period of time thanks to the language acquisition device, though there are also scholars who believe that a third factor also plays a role.

Acquisition of Recursive Possessives and Recursive Locatives in Mandarin

As recursion has been underlying any linguistic work for the last 60 years, the acquisition of recursive structures by children during language learning has become a focal point of inquiry. This study delves into the developmental trajectory of Mandarin-speaking children's acquisition of recursive possessives and locatives, assessing the impact of structural diversity on language acquisition. The research contrasts the comprehension of two-level recursive structures among children aged 3 to 7 years, employing answering question while seeing a picture task to elicit responses. The findings indicate that children do not attain adult-like proficiency in two-level recursion until the age of 6, and there exists a notable asymmetry in the acquisition of recursive possessives versus locatives. These results underscore the primacy of structural complexity and cognitive factors in the acquisition process, enhancing our comprehension of the cognitive foundations of language development and the pivotal role of recursion in child language acquisition.

The syntax-semantics interface in a child's path: A study of 3- to 11-year-olds' elicited production of Mandarin recursive relative clauses

There have been apparently conflicting claims over the syntax-semantics relationship in child acquisition. However, few of them have assessed the child's path toward the acquisition of recursive relative clauses (RRCs). The authors of the current paper did experiments to investigate 3- to 11-year-olds' most-structured elicited production of eight Mandarin RRCs in a 4 (syntactic types)*2 (semantic conditions) design. The four syntactic types were RRCs with a subject-gapped RC embedded in an object-gapped RC (SORRCs), RRCs with an object-gapped RC embedded in another object-gapped RC (OORRCs), RRCs with an object-gapped RC embedded in a subject-gapped RC (OSRRCs), and RRCs with a subject-gapped RC embedded in another subject-gapped RC (SSRRCs). Each syntactic type was put in two conditions differing in internal semantics: irreversible internal semantics (IIS) and reversible internal semantics (RIS). For example, "the balloon that [the girl that _ eats the banana] holds _" is SORRCs in the IIS condition; "the monkey that [the dog that _ bites the pig] hits_" is SORRCs in the RIS condition. For each target, the participants were provided with a speech-visual stimulus constructing a condition of irreversible external semantics (IES). The results showed that SSRRCs, OSRRCs and SORRCs in the IIS-IES condition were produced two years earlier than their counterparts in the RIS-IES condition. Thus, a 2-stage development path is proposed: the language acquisition device starts with the interface between (irreversible) syntax and IIS, and ends with the interface between syntax and IES, both abiding by the syntax-semantic interface principle.

Charge Collection Performance of 4H-SiC LGAD

The 4H-SiC material exhibits good detection performance, but there are still many problems like signal distortion and poor signal quality. The 4H-SiC low gain avalanche detector (LGAD) has been fabricated for the first time to solve these problems, which named SICAR (SIlicon CARbide). The results of electrical characteristics and charge collection performance of the 4H-SiC LGAD are reported. The influence of different metal thicknesses on the leakage current of the device is studied.~By optimizing the fabrication process, the leakage current of the detector is reduced by four orders of magnitude. The experimental results confirm this 4H-SiC LGAD has an obvious gain structure, the gain factor of the SICAR is reported to be about 2 at 150 V. The charge collection efficiency (CCE) of the device was analyzed using $\alpha$ particle incidence of 5.54 MeV, and the CCE is 90\% @100~V. This study provides a novel 4H-SiC LGAD radiation detector for application in the field of high energy particle physics.

Type Inference for Isabelle2Cpp

Isabelle2Cpp is a code generation framework that supports automatic generation of C++ code from Isabelle/HOL specifications. However, if some type information of Isabelle/HOL specification is missing, Isabelle2Cpp may not complete the code generation automatically. In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a type system for Isabelle2Cpp, which is used to perform type inference and type unification for expressions of the intermediate representation in Isabelle2Cpp. The system introduces new type inference rules and unification algorithms to enhance the Isabelle2Cpp framework. By incorporating the type system, the Isabelle2Cpp framework can provide more comprehensive type information for expression generation, which leads to more complete and accurate C++ code.

Design and simulation of a novel 4H-SiC LGAD timing device

Silicon-based fast time detectors have been widely used in high energy physics, nuclear physics, space exploration and other fields in recent years. However, silicon detectors often require complex low-temperature systems when operating in irradiation environment, and their detection performance decrease with the increase of irradiation dose. Compared with silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) has a wider bandgap, higher atomic displacement energy, saturated electron drift velocity and thermal conductivity. Simultaneously, the low gain avalanche detector avoids crosstalk and high noise from high multiplication due to its moderate gain, and thus can maintain a high detector signal without increasing noise. Thus, the 4H-SiC particle detector, especially the low gain avalanche detector has the potential to detect the minimal ionized particles (MIPs) under extreme irradiation and high temperature environments. In this work, the emphasis was placed on the design of a 4H-SiC Low Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD), especially the epitaxial structure and technical process which played the main roles. In addition, a simulation tool--RASER(RAdiation SEmiconductoR) was developed to simulate the performances including the electrical properties and time resolution of the 4H-SiC LGAD we proposed. The working voltage and gain effectiveness of the LGAD were verified by the simulation of electrical performances. The time resolution of the LGAD is (35.0 $\pm$ 0.2) ps under the electrical field of -800 V, which is better than that of the 4H-SiC PIN detector.

Electric Field Measurement by Edge Transient Current Technique on Silicon Low Gain Avalanche Detector

A novel methodology, named the diffusion profile method, is proposed in this research to measure the electric field of a low gain avalanche detector (LGAD).The proposed methodology utilizes the maximum of the time derivative of the edge transient current technique (edge-TCT) test waveform to quantify the dispersion of the light-induced carriers. This method introduces the estimation of the elongation of the carrier cluster caused by diffusion and the divergence of the electric field force during its drift along the detector. The effectiveness of the diffusion profile method is demonstrated through the analysis of both simulated and measured edge-TCT waveforms. Experimental data was collected from a laser scan performed on an LGAD detector along its thickness direction.A simulation procedure has been developed in RASER (RAdiation SEmiconductoR) to generate signals from LGAD.An assumption of immediate one-step carrier multiplication is introduced to simplify the avalanche process.Simulation results were compared with transient current data at the waveform level and showed a favorable match. Both simulation and experimental results have shown that the diffusion profile method could be applied to certain edge-TCT facilities as an alternative of electric field measurement.

Timing performance simulation for 3D 4H-SiC detector

To meet high radiation challenge for detectors in future high-energy physics, a novel 3D 4H-SiC detector was investigated. SiC detectors could potentially operate in radiation harsh and room temperature environment because of its high thermal conductivity and high atomic displacement threshold energy. 3D structure, which decouples thickness and distance between electrodes, further improves timing performance and radiation hardness of the detector. We developed a simulation software - RASER (RAdiation SEmiconductoR) to simulate the time resolution of planar and 3D 4H-SiC detectors with different parameters and structures, and the reliability of the software is verified by comparing time resolution results of simulation with data. The rough time resolution of 3D 4H-SiC detector was estimated, and the simulation parameters could be used as guideline to 3D 4H-SiC detector design and optimization.
