Adsorption Transition of a Polyelectrolyte on a High-dielectric Charged Substrate

The behavior of a polyelectrolyte adsorbed on a charged surface of high-dielectric constant is studied by both Monte-Carlo simulation and analytical methods. It is found that in a low ionic strength medium, the transition is first-order with the repulsive charged surface. The order parameter which characterize the polyelectrolyte adsorption, the surface monomer density, follows a linear relation with surface charge density. It indicates the polyelectrolyte is always compressed on the substrate. No conformation change exists before the de-sorption. Finally, a new scaling law for the layer thickness is derived and verified by the simulation data.

Polyelectrolyte Adsorption on Charged Substrate

The behavior of a polyelectrolyte adsorbed on a charged substrate of high-dielectric constant is studied by both Monte-Carlo simulation and analytical methods. It is found that in a low enough ionic strength medium, the adsorption transition is first-order where the substrate surface charge still keeps repulsive. The monomer density at the adsorbed surface is identified as the order parameter. It follows a linear relation with substrate surface charge density because of the electrostatic boundary condition at the charged surface. During the transition, the adsorption layer thickness remains finite. A new scaling law for the layer thickness is derived and verified by simulation.

Supersymmetric Mean-Field Theory of t-J Model

The supersymmetric formulation of t-J model is studied in this paper at the mean-field level where $δ$-T phase diagram is computed. We find that slave-fermion-like spiral phase is stable at low doping concentration, and the slave-boson-like d-wave fermionic spin pairing state becomes energetically favourable when $δ\geq$ 0.23. An improvement in free energy using Gutzwiller's method lowers the transition doping concentration to 0.06. We also point out the existence of new branches of excitations in the supersymmetric theory.

Supersymmetry in models with strong on-site Coulomb repulsion - application to t-J model

A supersymmetric way of imposing the constraint of no double occupancy in models with strong on-site Coulomb repulsion is presented in this paper. In this formulation the physical operators in the constrainted Hilbert space are invariant under local unitary transformations mixing boson and fermion representations. As an illustration the formulation is applied to the $t-J$ model. The model is studied in the mean-field level in the J=0 limit where we show how both the slave-boson and slave-fermion formulations are included naturally in the present approach and how further results beyond both approaches are obtained.
