Symbolic Extraction of Non-Perturbative Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Distributions from Drell-Yan Data

We present an analytical parametrization of the non-perturbative transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distribution function of unpolarized quarks, extracted from Drell-Yan data using a combination of neural-network fitting and symbolic regression. A factorized neural network is trained directly against experimental cross-section data from fixed-target, Tevatron, RHIC, and LHC experiments at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, and symbolic regression is subsequently applied to each network component to discover compact analytical expressions. The final formula is selected from a Pareto front in the space of expression complexity and experimental $χ^2$, yielding a closed-form non-perturbative function with 9 free numerical constants that achieves $χ^2/\mathrm{ndf}=1.040$ over 482 data points. A non-trivial $x$-$b_T$ cross term is retained even under a sparsity prior that biases it toward zero, indicating a mild but genuine correlation between the longitudinal momentum fraction and the transverse momentum. This work demonstrates that symbolic regression is a viable tool for bridging flexible machine-learning fits and interpretable analytical TMD parametrizations, and opens a systematic path toward data-driven discovery of specific features of non-perturbative QCD.

An extraction of the Collins-Soper kernel from a joint analysis of experimental and lattice data

We present a first joint extraction of the Collins-Soper kernel (CSK) combining experimental and lattice QCD data in the context of an analysis of transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs). Based on a neural-network parametrization, we perform a Bayesian reweighting of an existing fits of TMDs using lattice data, as well as a joint TMD fit to lattice and experimental data. We consistently find that the inclusion of lattice information shifts the central value of the CSK by approximately 10% and reduces its uncertainty by 40-50%, highlighting the potential of lattice inputs to improve TMD extractions.

A Neural-Network Extraction of Unpolarised Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Distributions

We present the first extraction of transverse-momentum-dependent distributions of unpolarised quarks from experimental Drell-Yan data using neural networks to parametrise their nonperturbative part. We show that neural networks outperform traditional parametrisations providing a more accurate description of data. This work establishes the feasibility of using neural networks to explore the multi-dimensional partonic structure of hadrons and paves the way for more accurate determinations based on machine-learning techniques.

Flavor dependence of unpolarized quark Transverse Momentum Distributions from a global fit

We present an extraction of the unpolarized transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions that takes into account possible differences between quark flavors and final-state hadrons. The extraction is based on experimental measurements from Drell-Yan processes and semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, whose combination is essential to distinguish flavor differences. The analysis is carried out at N$^3$LL accuracy. The extracted flavor-dependent distributions give a very good description of the data ($χ^2/N_{\rm dat} = 1.08$). The resulting uncertainties take fully into account also the uncertainties in the determination of the corresponding collinear distributions.

SMEFT analysis with LHeC, FCC-eh, and EIC DIS pseudodata

In this study, we examine the possibilities opened by upcoming high-energy deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) experiments to investigate new physics within the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). Specifically, we investigate the beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) potential of the Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC) and the Future Circular lepton-hadron Collider (FCC-eh), and we improve previous simulations of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) by incorporating $Z$-boson vertex corrections. Our fits, performed using DIS pseudodata, reveal that the LHeC and the FCC-eh can play a crucial role in resolving degeneracies observed in the parameter space of Wilson coefficients in global fits using the Higgs, diboson, electroweak, and top data. This emphasizes the significance of precision DIS measurements in advancing our understanding of new physics.

SMEFT probes in future precision DIS experiments

We analyze the potential of future high-energy deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) experiments to probe new physics within the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We perform a detailed study of SMEFT probes at a future Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC) and a Future Circular lepton-hadron Collider (FCC-eh) machine, and extend previous simulations of the potential of a Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to include Z-boson vertex corrections. Precision Z-pole constraints on vertex corrections suffer from numerous degeneracies in the Wilson-coefficient parameter space. We find that both the LHeC and the FCC-eh can help remove these degeneracies present in the existing global fits of precision Z-pole observables and LHC data. The FCC-eh and LHeC will in many cases improve upon the existing precision electroweak bounds on the SMEFT parameter space. This highlights the important role of precision DIS measurements for new physics studies.

The case for an EIC Theory Alliance: Theoretical Challenges of the EIC

We outline the physics opportunities provided by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). These include the study of the parton structure of the nucleon and nuclei, the onset of gluon saturation, the production of jets and heavy flavor, hadron spectroscopy and tests of fundamental symmetries. We review the present status and future challenges in EIC theory that have to be addressed in order to realize this ambitious and impactful physics program, including how to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to address these many-fold challenges, we propose a coordinated effort involving theory groups with differing expertise is needed. We discuss the scientific goals and scope of such an EIC Theory Alliance.

Unpolarized Transverse Momentum Distributions from a global fit of Drell-Yan and Semi-Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Scattering data

We present an extraction of unpolarized transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions based on more than two thousands data points from several experiments for two different processes: semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan production of lepton pairs. The baseline analysis is performed with a Monte Carlo replica method resumming large logarithms at N3LL accuracy. The resulting description of the data is very good ($χ^2/N_{\rm dat} = 1.06$). For semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, predictions for multiplicities are normalized by factors that cure the discrepancy with data introduced by higher-order perturbative corrections.

Extraction of Pion Transverse Momentum Distributions from Drell-Yan data

We map the distribution of unpolarized quarks inside a unpolarized pion as a function of the quark's transverse momentum, encoded in unpolarized Transverse Momentum Distributions (TMDs). We extract the pion TMDs from available data of unpolarized pion-nucleus Drell-Yan processes, where the cross section is differential in the lepton-pair transverse momentum. In the cross section, pion TMDs are convoluted with nucleon TMDs that we consistently take from our previous studies. We obtain a fairly good agreement with data. We present also predictions for pion-nucleus scattering that is being measured by the COMPASS Collaboration.

Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions up to N$^3$LL from Drell-Yan data

We present an extraction of unpolarised Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Parton Distribution Functions based on Drell-Yan production data from different experiments, including those at the LHC, and spanning a wide kinematic range. We deal with experimental uncertainties by properly taking into account correlations. We include resummation of logarithms of the transverse momentum of the vector boson up to N$^3$LL order, and we include non-perturbative contributions. These ingredients allow us to obtain a remarkable agreement with the data.
