Towards mixed QCDxEW corrections to the charged-current Drell-Yan process with leptonic decay at high transverse masses

The Drell-Yan process is a key precision benchmark at the Large Hadron Collider and a sensitive probe of SM and SMEFT effects. Fully exploiting future LHC data requires percent-level SM predictions, motivating precise EW and mixed QCDxEW corrections. In this proceeding we report of the progress towards the calculation of mixed QCDxEW corrections to charged-current Drell-Yan with leptonic decay at high transverse masses, performed within the Nested Soft-Collinear Subtraction framework. After presenting a validation at NLO, we show results for the NNLO real corrections and compare their impact in the neutral-current and newly developed charged-current channels. These contributions are essential to match the current and future precision of LHC measurements, especially in regions where electroweak effects are enhanced by Sudakov logarithms.

Next-to-next-to-leading order event generation for $t\bar{t}H$ production with approximate two-loop amplitude

We study Higgs-boson production in association with a top-quark pair ($t\bar{t}H$) at hadron colliders and present the first matching of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to parton showers using the MiNNLOPS method. For the two-loop amplitude, we employ two established approximations, based on the soft Higgs-boson and high-energy limits, respectively. For the first time, we also construct the latter in full colour and propose a pointwise combination of the two approximations across phase space. By assigning a conservative uncertainty estimate, which remains well below the perturbative uncertainties, we ensure robust and reliable differential predictions, explicitly validated at the one-loop level. Apart from the two-loop amplitude, all remaining ingredients of the MiNNLOPS calculation are included exactly. After thorough validation, we present a series of phenomenological results illustrating the impact of NNLO corrections and parton-shower effects. We consider fiducial predictions for the Higgs-boson decay into photons and include off-shell top-quark decays with tree-level spin correlations in both the dilepton and semileptonic channels. Our $t\bar{t}H$ MiNNLOPS generator is publicly available within the POWHEG framework.

Physics Briefing Book: Input for the 2026 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics

The European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) reflects the vision and presents concrete plans of the European particle physics community for advancing human knowledge in fundamental physics. The ESPP is updated every five-to-six years through a community-driven process. It commences with the submission of specific proposals and other input from the community at large, outlining projects envisioned for the near-, mid-, and long-term future. All submitted contributions are evaluated by the Physics Preparatory Group (PPG), and a preliminary analysis is presented at a Symposium meant to foster a broad community discussion on the scientific value and feasibility of the various ideas proposed. The outcomes of the analysis and the deliberations at the Symposium are synthesized in the current Briefing Book, which provides an important input in the deliberations of the Strategy recommendations by the European Strategy Group (ESG).

Integrated subtraction terms and finite remainders for arbitrary processes with massless partons at colliders in the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme

We present integrated subtraction terms and finite remainders for arbitrary processes with massless partons at hadron and lepton colliders in the context of the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme. These results provide the very last ingredients needed to make this scheme a fully local, analytic and process-independent framework for treating infrared singularities at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. The explicit infrared finiteness of all required contributions, as well as their process-independence, puts these results on par with subtraction schemes developed for next-to-leading order computations and opens up a clear path towards the automation of next-to-next-to-leading order computations in QCD.

Towards a general subtraction formula for NNLO QCD corrections to processes at hadron colliders: final states with quarks and gluons

We describe the calculation of integrated subtraction terms in the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme for hadron collider processes with quarks and gluons, thereby extending the results presented in Ref.$~$[1]. Although this extension eventually proves to be straightforward, it requires a more careful treatment of certain collinear limits to achieve a compact and physically-transparent final result. We also show that the cancellation of infrared divergences can be organized in such a way that, once soft contributions are removed, it occurs independently for each of the external partons. We consider these results to be important stepping stones on the way to deriving finite remainders of the integrated subtraction terms for fully-general hadron collider processes in the context of the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme.

Refactorisation and Subtraction

Infrared subtraction algorithms beyond next-to-leading order necessitate the analysis of multiple infrared limits of scattering amplitudes, where several particles sequentially become soft or collinear. In this contribution, we report on the study performed in arXiv:2403.11975, which investigates these limits from the perspective of infrared factorisation, offering general definitions for strongly-ordered soft and collinear kernels, expressed in terms of gauge-invariant operator matrix elements. These definitions facilitate the identification of local subtraction counterterms for strongly-ordered configurations, whose integrals are designed to cancel the IR poles of real-virtual counterterms. This framework is validated at tree level for multiple emissions, and at one loop for single and double emissions.

NNLO subtraction for any massless final state: a complete analytic expression

We use the Local Analytic Sector Subtraction scheme to construct a completely analytic set of expressions implementing a fully local infrared subtraction at NNLO for generic coloured massless final states. The cancellation of all explicit infrared poles appearing in the double-virtual contribution, in the real-virtual correction and in the integrated local infrared counterterms is explicitly verified, and all finite contributions arising from integrated local counterterms are analytically evaluated in terms of ordinary polylogarithms up to weight three. The resulting subtraction formula can readily be implemented in any numerical framework containing the relevant matrix elements up to NNLO.

Strongly-ordered infrared counterterms from factorisation

In the context of infrared subtraction algorithms beyond next-to-leading order, it becomes necessary to consider multiple infrared limits of scattering amplitudes, in which several particles become soft or collinear in a strongly-ordered sequence. We study these limits from the point of view of infrared factorisation, and we provide general definitions of strongly-ordered soft and collinear kernels in terms of gauge-invariant operator matrix elements. With these definitions in hand, it is possible to construct local subtraction counterterms for strongly-ordered configurations. Because of their factorised structure, these counterterms cancel infrared poles of real-virtual contributions by construction. We test these ideas at tree level for multiple emissions, and at one loop for single and double emissions, contributing to NNLO and N3LO distributions, respectively.

A fresh look at the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme: NNLO QCD corrections to $N$-gluon final states in $q\bar{q}$ annihilation

We describe how the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme [1] can be used to compute the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the production of an arbitrary number of gluonic jets in hadron collisions. We show that the infrared subtraction terms can be combined into recurring structures that in many cases are simple iterations of those terms known from next-to-leading order. The way that these recurring structures are identified and computed is fairly general, and can be applied to any partonic process. As an example, we explicitly demonstrate the cancellation of all singularities in the fully-differential cross section for the $q\bar{q} \to X + N g $ process at NNLO in QCD. The finite remainder of the NNLO QCD contribution, which arises upon cancellation of all $\epsilon$-poles, is expressed via relatively simple formulas, which can be implemented in a numerical code in a straightforward way. Our approach can be extended to describe arbitrary processes at NNLO in QCD; the largest remaining challenge at this point is the combinatorics of quark and gluon collinear limits.

Advances in the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme

We discuss a path toward the generalisation of the nested soft-collinear subtraction scheme to arbitrary $2\rightarrow n$ processes. The scheme is designed to provide an efficient and process-independent procedure to extract and regulate infrared (IR) singularities arising from unresolved real radiation and combine them with explicit singularities in virtual corrections. The new approach is based on a reorganisation of the relevant subtraction terms into simple combinations of a relatively small number of recurring structures. This strategy leads to a drastic reduction in the computational effort required to derive integrated subtraction terms, while preserving the full generality of the scheme. We believe that this approach will allow for tackling the issue of regularising IR divergences at next-to-next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant for arbitrary, multi-parton processes.

Strongly-ordered infrared limits for subtraction counterterms from factorisation

After a brief introduction to the problem of subtraction of infrared divergences for high-order collider observables, we present a preliminary study of strongly-ordered soft and collinear multiple radiation from the point of view of factorisation. We show that the matrix elements of fields and Wilson lines that describe soft and collinear radiation in factorised scattering amplitudes can be re-factorised in strongly-ordered limits, providing a systematic method to compute them, to characterise their singularity structure, and to build local subtraction counterterms for strongly-ordered configurations. Our results provide tools for a detailed organisation of subtraction algorithms, in principle to all orders in perturbation theory.

Non-factorisable contributions to $t$-channel single-top production at the LHC and FCC

Single top quark is mainly produced through the $t$-channel W boson exchange $q + b \rightarrow q' + t$ at LHC. This process probes Wtb vertex directly and can be used to measure the CKM matrix element $V_{tb}$ or to constrain the bottom quark PDF. The non-factorisable contributions are the last missing piece of the NNLO corrections. In these proceedings, we discuss in a first part the ostensible importance of such corrections and the obtention of the different relevant amplitudes. In the second part, recently published results at the energy of the LHC are compared to new results for proton-proton collision at $100 \: {\rm TeV}$, the energy of the FCC.

Non-factorisable contribution to $t$-channel single-top production

We compute the non-factorisable ${\cal O}(α_s^2)$ corrections to $t$-channel single-top quark production at the LHC. These peculiar corrections arise because of interactions between the heavy- and the light-quark lines and appear for the very first time at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. We find that the non-factorisable corrections change the single-top production cross section and the relevant kinematic distributions in this process by about half a percent.

Mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to dilepton production at the LHC in the high invariant mass region

We compute mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to the neutral-current Drell-Yan production of a pair of massless leptons in the high invariant mass region. Our computation is fully differential with respect to the final state particles. At relatively low values of the dilepton invariant mass, $m_{\ell \ell} \sim 200$ GeV, we find unexpectedly large mixed QCD-electroweak corrections at the level of -1%. At higher invariant masses, $m_{\ell \ell} \sim 1$ TeV, we observe that these corrections can be well approximated by the product of QCD and electroweak corrections. Hence, thanks to the well-known Sudakov enhancement of the latter, they increase at large invariant mass and reach e.g. -3% at $m_{\ell \ell} = 3$ TeV. Finally, we note that the inclusion of mixed corrections reduces the theoretical uncertainty related to the choice of electroweak input parameters to below the percent level.

Analytic integration of soft and collinear radiation in factorised QCD cross sections at NNLO

Within the framework of local analytic sector subtraction, we present the full analytic integration of double-real and real-virtual local infrared counterterms that enter NNLO QCD computations with any number of massless final-state partons. We show that a careful choice of phase-space mappings leads to simple analytic results, including non-singular terms, that can be obtained with conventional integration techniques.

The Infrared Structure of Perturbative Gauge Theories

Infrared divergences in the perturbative expansion of gauge theory amplitudes and cross sections have been a focus of theoretical investigations for almost a century. New insights still continue to emerge, as higher perturbative orders are explored, and high-precision phenomenological applications demand an ever more refined understanding. This review aims to provide a pedagogical overview of the subject. We briefly cover some of the early historical results, we provide some simple examples of low-order applications in the context of perturbative QCD, and discuss the necessary tools to extend these results to all perturbative orders. Finally, we describe recent developments concerning the calculation of soft anomalous dimensions in multi-particle scattering amplitudes at high orders, and we provide a brief introduction to the very active field of infrared subtraction for the calculation of differential distributions at colliders.

Local Analytic Sector Subtraction at NNLO

We present a new method for the local subtraction of infrared divergences at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD, for generic infrared-safe observables. Our method attempts to conjugate the minimal local counterterm structure arising from a sector partition of the radiation phase space with the simplifications following from analytic integration of the counterterms. In this first implementation, the method applies to final-state massless particles. We show how our method compactly organises infrared subtraction at NLO, we deduce in detail the general structure of the subtraction terms at NNLO, and we provide a proof of principle with a complete application to a simple process at NNLO.
