Algebraic Consistency and Explicit Construction of One-Loop BCJ Numerators of Yang-Mills and Related Theories

We study the algebraic structure of one-loop BCJ numerators in Yang-Mills and related theories. Starting from the propagator matrix that connects colour-ordered integrands to numerators, we identify the consistency conditions that ensure the existence of Jacobi-satisfying numerator solutions and determine the unique construction. The relation between one-loop numerators and forward-limit tree numerators is clarified, together with the additional physical conditions required for a consistent double-copy interpretation. We propose a two-step expansion strategy for obtaining explicit one-loop numerators. The Yang-Mills integrand is first decomposed into scalar-loop Yang-Mills-scalar building blocks, which are then expanded into bi-adjoint scalar integrands. We derive explicit results for up to three external gluons, showing how the kinematic consistency conditions uniquely determine the coefficients in each case. Similar results for Einstein-Yang-Mills and gravity amplitudes are also presented.

HEFT Numerators from Kinematic Algebra

We derive the kinematic numerator factors for heavy-mass effective field theory from the field theory limit of the string theory vertex operator kinematic algebra introduced in arXiv:1806.09584. The kinematic numerators are derived as correlators of nested commutators of gluon vertex operators evaluated between massive tachyonic vertex operators. The resulting numerators are given by products of structure constants of the vertex operator algebra which yield gauge invariant expressions. The computation of the nested commutators leads to a natural organisation in the form of rooted trees, endowed with an order that facilitates the enumeration of the various contributions. This kinematic algebra gives a string theory understanding of the field theory fusion rules for constructing the heavy-mass effective field theory numerator of arXiv:2104.11206 and arXiv:2111.15649.

Building Momentum Kernel from Shapovalov Form

These notes are an extended version of the talks given by the authors at the XIV International Workshop on Lie Theory and Its Applications in Physics, Sofia, Bulgaria, 20-26 June 2021. The concise version published in the proceedings of the workshop contains additional discussions for the $q$-deformed scenario: \noindent\href{https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-981-19-4751-3_23}{https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-981-19-4751-3\_23}. In these notes we identify KLT kernel with the Shapovalov form on Verma module with its highest/lowest weight given by the reference momentum and rest of the momenta as roots. We then take a step forward and show how the Feynman diagrams emerge naturally as the Shapovalov duals of the Verma module basis vectors. We show such algebraic construct offers a compact expression for the BCJ numerators. Explicit examples are shown for the nonlinear sigma model and the HEFT pre-numerators.

BCJ, worldsheet quantum algebra and KZ equations

We exploit the correspondence between twisted homology and quantum group to construct an algebra explanation of the open string kinematic numerator. In this setting the representation depends on string modes, and therefore the cohomology content of the numerator, as well as the location of the punctures. We show that quantum group root system thus identified helps determine the Casimir appears in the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection, which can be used to relate representations associated with different puncture locations.

A Vertex Operator Algebra Construction of the Colour-Kinematics Dual numerator

We derive a vertex operator based expression for the kinematic numerators of Yang-Mills amplitudes by applying the momentum kernel formalism to open string amplitudes. The expression involves an $α'$-weighted commutator induced by the monodromy relations between the colour ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes, which mirrors the $α'$ deformed colour structure observed in open string and semi-abelian $Z$-theory. The kinematic algebra given by this construction contains the Lie algebra of diffeomorphism as an obvious sub-algebra.

Expansion of Einstein-Yang-Mills Amplitude

In this paper, we provide a thorough study on the expansion of single trace Einstein-Yang-Mills amplitudes into linear combination of color-ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes, from various different perspectives. Using the gauge invariance principle, we propose a recursive construction, where EYM amplitude with any number of gravitons could be expanded into EYM amplitudes with less number of gravitons. Through this construction, we can write down the complete expansion of EYM amplitude in the basis of color-ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes. As a byproduct, we are able to write down the polynomial form of BCJ numerator, i.e., numerators satisfying the color-kinematic duality, for Yang-Mills amplitude. After the discussion of gauge invariance, we move to the BCFW on-shell recursion relation and discuss how the expansion can be understood from the on-shell picture. Finally, we show how to interpret the expansion from the aspect of KLT relation and the way of evaluating the expansion coefficients efficiently.

Colour-Kinematics duality and the Drinfeld double of the Lie algebra of diffeomorphisms

Colour-kinematics duality suggests that Yang-Mills (YM) theory possesses some hidden Lie algebraic structure. So far this structure has resisted understanding, apart from some progress in the self-dual sector. We show that there is indeed a Lie algebra behind the YM Feynman rules. The Lie algebra we uncover is the Drinfeld double of the Lie algebra of vector fields. More specifically, we show that the kinematic numerators following from the YM Feynman rules satisfy a version of the Jacobi identity, in that the Jacobiator of the bracket defined by the YM cubic vertex is cancelled by the contribution of the YM quartic vertex. We then show that this Jacobi-like identity is in fact the Jacobi identity of the Drinfeld double. All our considerations are off-shell. Our construction explains why numerators computed using the Feynman rules satisfy the colour-kinematics at four but not at higher numbers of points. It also suggests a way of modifying the Feynman rules so that the duality can continue to hold for an arbitrary number of gluons. Our construction stops short of producing explicit higher point numerators because of an absence of a certain property at four points. We comment on possible ways of correcting this, but leave the next word in the story to future work.

Explicit BCJ numerators of nonlinear sigma model

In this paper, we investigate the color-kinematics duality in nonlinear sigma model (NLSM). We present explicit polynomial expressions for the kinematic numerators (BCJ numerators). The calculation is done separately in two parametrization schemes of the theory using Kawai-Lewellen-Tye relation inspired technique, both lead to polynomial numerators. We summarize the calculation in each case into a set of rules that generates BCJ numerators for all multilplicities. In Cayley parametrization we find the numerator is described by a particularly simple formula solely in terms of momentum kernel.

Deformations of Yang-Mills theory

We introduce and study a new class of power-counting non-renormalisable gauge theories in four space-time dimensions. The Lagrangian is an arbitrary function of the self-dual part of the field strength. The resulting perturbation theory has the property that whenever two derivatives act on an internal line propagator, the result is a delta-function and the line collapses to a point. This means that there remains at most one derivative on each internal line, which gives improved ulta-violet behaviour. For many purposes, this class of theories behaves just like ordinary Yang-Mills theory. In particular, they all share the Yang-Mills theory MHV amplitudes. Moreover, these theories remain constructible in the sense that higher-point tree level scattering amplitudes can be obtained from the lower-point amplitudes using the BCFW recursion relations. Also, the square of these gauge-theory amplitudes gives the scattering amplitudes of "deformations" of General Relativity, at least for the low particle numbers that we checked. We compute the one-loop beta-function of the first new coupling constant, and find it to be positive, which signals the associated non-renormalisable interaction becoming important in the ulta-violet.

Note on Soft Graviton theorem by KLT Relation

Recently, new soft graviton theorem proposed by Cachazo and Strominger has inspired a lot of works. In this note, we use the KLT-formula to investigate the theorem. We have shown how the soft behavior of color ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes can be combined with KLT relation to give the soft behavior of gravity amplitudes. As a byproduct, we find two nontrivial identities of the KLT momentum kernel must hold.

Note on symmetric BCJ numerator

We present an algorithm that leads to BCJ numerators satisfying manifestly the three properties proposed by Broedel and Carrasco in [35]. We explicitly calculate the numerators at 4, 5 and 6-points and show that the relabeling property is generically satisfied.

Dual-color decompositions at one-loop level in Yang-Mills theory

In this work, we extend the construction of dual color decomposition in Yang-Mills theory to one-loop level, i.e., we show how to write one-loop integrands in Yang-Mills theory to the dual DDM-form and the dual trace-form. In dual forms, integrands are decomposed in terms of color-ordered one-loop integrands for color scalar theory with proper dual color coefficients. In dual DDM decomposition, The dual color coefficients can be obtained directly from BCJ-form by applying Jacobi-like identities for kinematic factors. In dual trace decomposition, the dual trace factors can be obtained by imposing one-loop KK relations, reflection relation and their relation with the kinematic factors in dual DDM-form.

The Construction of Dual-trace Factor in Yang-Mills Theory

Recently, a BCJ dual of the color-ordered formula for Yang-Mills amplitude was proposed, where the dual-trace factor satisfies cyclic symmetry and KK-relation. In this paper, we present a systematic construction of the dual-trace factor based on its proposed relations to kinematic numerators in dual-DDM form. We show that the construction presented respects relabeling symmetry. In addition, we show that using relabeling symmetry as conditions, the same construction can be solved independently.

Note on Construction of Dual-trace Factor in Yang-Mills Theory

In this note we provide a new construction of BCJ dual-trace factor using the kinematic algebra proposed in arXiv:1105.2565 and arXiv:1212.6168. Different from the construction given in arXiv:1304.2978 based on the proposal of arXiv:1103.0312, the method used in this note exploits the adjoint representation of kinematic algebra and the use of inner product in dual space. The dual-trace factor defined in this way naturally satisfies cyclic symmetry condition but not KK-relation, just like the trace of U(N) Lie algebra satisfies cyclic symmetry condition, but not KK-relation. In other words the new construction naturally leads to formulation sharing more similarities with the color decomposition of Yang-Mills amplitude.

BCFW Deformation and Regge Limit

BCFW deformation has served as an extremely useful tool in providing a recursive approach in studying color-ordered gauge amplitudes. This procedure has also been generalized to the study of graviton scattering. An important ingredient of this approach is the ability to identify amplitudes satisfying convergent dispersion relation when the BCFW parameter, z, is treated as a complex variable. In a modified BCFW treatment, we show in what sense the BCFW deformation in the large-z limit can be understood as the Regge limit. We also discuss how the issue of convergent dispersion integral for amplitudes involving external spins relates to the study of super-convergence relation which served as the precursor to the s-t duality relation for flat space string amplitudes.

Recurrence Relations of Higher Spin BPST Vertex Operators for Open String

We calculate higher spin BPST vertex operators for open bosonic string and express these operstors in terms of Kummer function of the second kind. We derive infinite number of recurrence relations among BPST vertex operators of different string states. These recurrence relations among BPST vertex operators lead to the recurrence relations among Regge string scattering amplitudes discovered recently.

A note on on-shell recursion relation of string amplitudes

In the application of on-shell recursion relation to string amplitudes, one challenge is the sum over infinite intermediate on-shell string states. In this note, we show how to sum these infinite states explicitly by including unphysical states to make complete Fock space.

An algebraic approach to BCJ numerators

One important discovery in recent years is that the total amplitude of gauge theory can be written as BCJ form where kinematic numerators satisfy Jacobi identity. Although the existence of such kinematic numerators is no doubt, the simple and explicit construction is still an important problem. As a small step, in this note we provide an algebraic approach to construct these kinematic numerators. Under our Feynman-diagram-like construction, the Jacobi identity is manifestly satisfied. The corresponding color ordered amplitudes satisfy off-shell KK-relation and off-shell BCJ relation similar to the color ordered scalar theory. Using our construction, the dual DDM form is also established.
