Jet-quenching in a 3D hydrodynamic medium

We study the radiative energy loss of hard partons in a soft medium in the multiple soft scattering approximation. The soft medium is described by a 3D hydrodynamical model and we treat the averaging over all possible parton paths through the medium without approximation. While the nuclear suppression factor $R_{AA}$ does not reflect the high quality of the medium description (except in a reduced systematic uncertainty in extracting the quenching power of the medium), the hydrodynamical model also allows to study different centralities and in particular the angular variation of $R_{AA}$ with respect to the reaction plane, allowing for a controlled variation of the in-medium path-length. We study the angular dependence of $R_{AA}$ for different centralities, discuss the influence of hydrodynamical expansion and flow and comment on the comparison with preliminary data.

Space-time evolution of bulk QCD matter

We introduce a combined fully three-dimensional macroscopic/microscopic transport approach employing relativistic 3D-hydrodynamics for the early, dense, deconfined stage of the reaction and a microscopic non-equilibrium model for the later hadronic stage where the equilibrium assumptions are not valid anymore. Within this approach we study the dynamics of hot, bulk QCD matter, which is being created in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions at RHIC. Our approach is capable of self-consistently calculating the freezeout of the hadronic system, while accounting for the collective flow on the hadronization hypersurface generated by the QGP expansion. In particular, we perform a detailed analysis of the reaction dynamics, hadronic freezeout, and transverse flow.

3-D hydro + cascade model at RHIC

We present a 3-D hydro + cascade model in which viscosity and a realistic freezeout process for the hadronic phase are taken into account. We compare our results to experimental data and discuss the finite state interaction effects on physical observables.

Hydrodynamical evolution near the QCD critical end point

Hydrodynamical calculations have been successful in describing global observables in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions, which aim to observe the production of the quark-gluon plasma. On the other hand, recently, a lot of evidence that there exists a critical end point (CEP) in the QCD phase diagram has been accumulating. Nevertheless, so far, no equation of state with the CEP has been employed in hydrodynamical calculations. In this paper, we construct the equation of state with the CEP on the basis of the universality hypothesis and show that the CEP acts as an attractor of isentropic trajectories. We also consider the time evolution in the case with the CEP and discuss how the CEP affects the final state observables, such as the correlation length, fluctuation, chemical freezeout, kinetic freezeout, and so on. Finally, we argue that the anomalously low kinetic freezeout temperature at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider suggests the possibility of the existence of the CEP.

Elliptic flow of multi-strange particles: fragmentation, recombination and hydrodynamics

We study the elliptic flow $v_2$ of multi-strange hadrons such as the $ϕ$, $Ξ$ and $Ω$ as a function of transverse momentum in the recombination and fragmentation model and compare to a standard hydrodynamic calculation. We find that the measurement of $v_2$ for the $ϕ$ and $Ω$ will allow for the unambiguous distinction between parton recombination and statistical hadro-chemistry to be the dominant process in hadronization at intermediate transverse momenta.

Scalar Mesons in Lattice QCD

We explore whether "f$_{0}$(600) or $σ$" exists as a pole in QCD, by a full lattice QCD simulation on the $8^{3} \times 16$ lattice using the plaquette action and Wilson fermions. It is shown that a low-mass $σ$ pole exists owing to the disconnected diagram of the meson propagator. A discussion is given on the physical content of the $σ$.

Scalar Particles in Lattice QCD

We report a project to study scalar particles by lattice QCD simulations. After a brief introduction of the current situation of lattice study of the sigma meson, we describe our numerical simulations of scalar mesons, $σ$ and $κ$. We observe a low sigma mass, $m_π<m_σ\le m_ρ$, for which the disconnected diagram plays an important role. For the kappa meson, we obtain higher mass than the experimental value, i.e., $m_κ\sim 2m_{K^*}$.

Lattice QCD at Finite Density -- An introductory review

This is a pedagogical review of the lattice study of finite density QCD, which is intended to provide the minimum necessary contents, so that the paper may be used as the first reading for a newcomer to the field and also for those working in nonlattice communities. After a brief introduction to argue why finite density QCD can be a new attractive subject, we describe fundamental formulae which are necessary for the following sections. Then we survey lattice QCD simulations in small chemical potential regions, where several prominent works have been reported recently. Next, two-color QCD calculations are discussed, where we have a chance to glance at many new features of finite density QCD, and indeed recent simulations indicated quark pair condensation and the in-medium effect. Tables of SU(3) and SU(2) lattice simulations at finite baryon density are given. In the next section, we make a survey of several related works which may be a starting point of the new development in the future, although some works do not attract much attention now. Materials are described in a pedagogical manner. Starting from a simple 2-d model, we briefly discuss a lattice analysis of NJL model. We describe a non-perturbative analytical approach, i.e., strong coupling approximation method and some results. Canonical ensemble approach instead of usual grand canonical ensample may be another route to reach high density. We examine the density of state method and show this old idea includes recently proposed factorization method. An alternative method, complex Langevin equation and an interesting model, finite isospin model, are also discussed. In Appendix, we give several technical points which are useful in practical calculations.

Behavior of Hadrons at Finite Density -- Lattice Study of Color SU(2) QCD

Using two-color lattice QCD with Wilson fermions, we report a study of the finite baryon number density system with two-flavors. First we investigate the Polyakov line and thermodynamical uantities in the $(κ,μ)$ plane, where $κ$ and $μ$ are the hopping parameter and chemical potential in the fermion action, respectively. Then we calculate propagators of meson ($\bar{q}Γq$) and baryon ($qΓq$) states. We find that the vector meson propagators are strongly modified in large $μ$ regions, indicating the reduction of the mass. This anomalous behavior of the vector meson is observed for the first time in lattice QCD.

Lattice study of "f$_{0}$(600) or $σ$"

We investigate the propagator of "f$_{0}$(600) or the $σ$" by the full-QCD simulation with Wilson fermions. We calculate the mesonic correlator in the I=0, $J^P=0^{+}$ channel on the $8^{3} \times 16$ lattice. Plaquet action and Wilson fermion action are adopted. A coupling constant $β$ is set to 4.8 and three kinds of hopping parameter, $κ$=0.1846, 0.1874 and 0.1891 are assayed. The disconnected diagram in the propagator is evaluated through taking average over 500 or 1000 Z2 noise. Simulations with the larger hopping parameter provide us with less noisy results. Though the statistics is not yet enough, our results indicate the existence of a pole with a mass in almost the same order as that of the $ρ$.

Comparison of space-time evolutions of hot/dense matter in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=17 and 130 GeV relativistic heavy ion collisions based on a hydrodynamical model

Based on a hydrodynamical model, we compare 130 GeV/$A$ Au+Au collisions at RHIC and 17 GeV/$A$ Pb+Pb collisions at SPS. The model well reproduces the single-particle distributions of both RHIC and SPS. The numerical solution indicates that huge amount of collision energy in RHIC is mainly used to produce a large extent of hot fluid rather than to make a high temperature matter; longitudinal extent of the hot fluid in RHIC is much larger than that of SPS and initial energy density of the fluid is only 5% higher than the one in SPS. The solution well describes the HBT radii at SPS energy but shows some deviations from the ones at RHIC.

Study of the Finite Density State based on SU(2) Lattice QCD

We report our recent numerical studies on two-color QCD with Wilson fermions. First the phase structure of the system in (kappa,mu)-plane is analyzed by measuring Polyakov line, baryon number density, gluon energy density and Polyakov line susceptibility. Then meson and baryon (di-quark) propagators are investigated. We find that the vector meson mass decreases near mu_c. This phenomena can be related to the low-mass lepton-pair enhancement observed in CERES experiment. Since our lattice is small, in order to confirm the results, we calculate both periodic and anti-periodic boundary condition cases. Preliminary calculations of color averaged, symmetric and anti-symmetric forces of qq system obtained from Polyakov line correlations, and gluon propagators are reported.

Hydrodynamical analysis of hadronic spectra in the 130 GeV/nucleon Au+Au collisions

We study one-particle spectra and a two-particle correlation function in the 130 GeV/nucleon Au+Au collisions at RHIC by making use of a hydrodynamical model. We calculate the one-particle hadronic spectra and present the first analysis of Bose-Einstein correlation functions based on the numerical solution of the hydrodynamical equations which takes both longitudinal and transverse expansion into account appropriately. The hydrodynamical model provides excellent agreement with the experimental data in the pseudorapidity and the transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons, the rapidity dependence of anti-proton to proton ratio, and almost consistent result for the pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions. Our numerical solution with simple freeze-out picture suggests the formation of the quark-gluon plasma with large volume and low net-baryon density.

Analysis of one- and two-particle spectra at RHIC based on a hydrodynamical model

We calculate the one-particle hadronic spectra and correlation functions of pions based on a hydrodynamical model. Parameters in the model are so chosen that the one-particle spectra reproduce experimental results of $\sqrt{s}=130A$GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Based on the numerical solution, we discuss the space-time evolution of the fluid. Two-pion correlation functions are also discussed. Our numerical solution suggests the formation of the quark-gluon plasma with large volume and low net baryon density.

(3+1)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamical expansion of hot and dense matter in ultra-relativistic nuclear collision

A full (3+1)-dimensional calculation using the Lagrangian hydrodynamics is proposed for relativistic nuclear collisions. The calculation enables us to evaluate anisotropic flow of hadronic matter which appears in non-central and/or asymmetrical relativistic nuclear collisions. Applying hydrodynamical calculations to the deformed uranium collisions at AGS energy region, we discuss the nature of space-time structure and particle distributions in detail.

Two-particle correlation from a relativistic fluid with a first order phase transition

We numerically calculate two-particle correlation functions of CERN-SPS 158 A GeV Pb+Pb central collisions based on a (3+1)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics with a first order phase transition. We analyze the pair momentum dependence of pion source sizes extracted from the Yano-Koonin-Podgoretski\uı (YKP) parametrization which is expected to give the source sizes directly. We find that, even in the case of the first order phase transition, the collective expansion and surface dominant freeze-out of the fluid naturally lead to the opaque source for which the interpretation of the temporal source parameter as the emission duration breaks down.

Numerical analysis of two-pion correlation based on a hydrodynamical model

We will numerically investgate two-particle correlation function of CERN--SPS 158 A GeV Pb+Pb central collisions in detail based on a (3+1)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamical model with first order phase transition. We use the Yano-Koonin-Podgoretski\uı parametrization as well as the usual Cartesian parametrization and analyze the pair momentum dependence of HBT radii extracted from the parametrizations. We find that the interpretation of the temporal radius parameters as the time duration in YKP parametrization is not available for the hydrodynamical model where the source became opaque naturally because of expansion and surface dominant freeze-out. Finally, effect of the phase transition on the source opacity is also discussed.
