Sensitivity of the future $\boldsymbol{e^{-}p}$ collider to the coupling of axion-like particles with vector bosons

Axion-like particles (ALPs) arise naturally in many extensions of the Standard Model (SM). We explore the discovery potential for ALPs of the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) via the $W^{+}W^{-}$ fusion process. For concreteness, both cases of the ALP decaying to muon pairs and $b\overline{b}$ pairs are investigated. Our numerical results show that the LHeC with the center of mass energy of $1.3$ TeV and the integrated luminosity of $1$ ab$^{-1}$ might be more sensitive than the LHC in probing ALPs over a range of masses from a few tens of GeV to $900$ GeV, where the promising sensitivities to the coupling of ALP with $W^{\pm}$ bosons reach nearly $0.15$ TeV$^{-1}$ and $0.32$ TeV$^{-1}$ for the signal processes $e^{-}p\rightarrowν_{e}ja(a\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-})$ and $e^{-}p\rightarrowν_{e}ja(a\rightarrow b\overline{b})$, respectively.

Charged-current non-standard neutrino interactions at the LHC and HL-LHC

A series of new physics scenarios predict the existence of the extra charged gauge boson $W'$, which can induce charged-current (CC) non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs). The theoretical constraints on the simplified $W'$ model and further on the CC NSI parameters $\widetildeε^{ qq'Y}_{αβ}$ from partial wave unitarity and $W'$ decays are considered. The sensitivity of the process $p p \rightarrow W'\rightarrow \ellν$ to the $W'$ model at the LHC and high-luminosity~(HL) LHC experiments is investigated by estimating the expected constraints on $\widetildeε^{qq'Y}_{αβ}$ ($α= β= e $ or $μ$) using a Monte-Carlo~(MC) simulation. We find that the interference effect plays an important role, and the LHC can strongly constrain $\widetildeε^{qq'L}_{αβ}$. Compared with those at the $13 \;{\rm TeV}$ LHC with $\mathcal{L}=139\;{\rm fb}^{-1}$, the expected constraints at the $14 \;{\rm TeV}$ LHC with $\mathcal{L}=3\;{\rm ab}^{-1}$ can be strengthened to approximately one order of magnitude.

Prospects for detecting axion-like particles via the decay $Z\rightarrow af\bar{f}$ at future $Z$ factories

We investigate the prospects for detecting axion-like particles (ALPs, dubbed as "a") via the decay $Z\rightarrow a f\bar{f}$ at future $Z$ factories. Considering the decay channels $a\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ and $a\rightarrow b \bar{b}$ , four types of signals $μ^+ μ^- /E$, $b b /E$, $e^+ e^- μ^+ μ^-$ and $e^+ e^- b b$ are explored. We demonstrate that these channels are promising for detecting ALPs at $Z$ factories and obtain the sensitivity bounds on the couplings $g_{aZZ}$ and $g_{aγZ}$.

Production of axion-like particles via vector boson fusion at future electron-positron colliders

One kind of particularly interesting pseudoscalar particles, called axion-like particles (ALPs), have rich physical phenomenology at high- and low-energy collider experiments. After discussing most of single production channels of ALP at electron-positron colliders, we investigate the possibility of detecting this kind of new particles through the W$^{+}$W$^{-}$ fusion process e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ $\rightarrow$ $\overlineν_{e}$$ν_{e}a$ $(\rightarrow γγ)$ at the CLIC. The 3$σ$ and 5$σ$ bounds on the ALP parameter space at the three energy stages of the CLIC are obtained. We find that the bounds given by the CLIC are complementary to the existing experiments exclusion regions.

Searching for axion-like particles at future electron-positron colliders

We investigate the prospects for discovering axion-like particles (ALPs) via a light-by-light (LBL) scattering at two colliders, the future circular collider (FCC-ee) and circular electron-positron collider (CEPC). The promising sensitivities to the effective ALP-photon coupling $g_{aγγ}$ are obtained. Our numerical results show that the FCC-ee and CEPC might be more sensitive to the ALPs with mass 2 GeV $\sim$ 10 GeV than the LHC and CLIC.

Single production of vector-like bottom quark at the LHeC

Existences of vector-like quarks (VLQs) are predicted in many new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model (SM). We study the possibility of detecting the vector-like bottom quark (VLQ-$B$) being the $SU(2)$ singlet with electric charge $-1/3$ at the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) in a model-independent framework. The decay properties and single production of VLQ-$B$ at the LHeC are explored. Three types of signatures are investigated. By carrying out a fast simulation for the signals and the corresponding backgrounds, the signal significances are obtained. Our numerical results show that detecting of VLQ-$B$ via the semileptonic channel is better than via the fully hadronic or leptonic channel.

The signatures of the new particles $h_2$ and $Z_{μτ}$ at e-p colliders in the $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model

Considering the superior performances of the future e-p colliders, LHeC and FCC-eh, we discuss the feasibility of detecting the extra neutral scalar $h_{2}$ and the light gauge boson $Z^{}_{μτ}$, which are predicted by the ${U(1)}_{L^{}_μ - L^{}_τ}$ model. Taking into account the experimental constraints on the relevant free parameters, we consider all possible production channels of $h_{2}$ and $Z^{}_{μτ}$ at e-p colliders and further investigate their observability through the optimal channels in the case of the beam polarization P($e^{-}$)= -0.8. We find that the signal significance above 5$σ$ of $h_{2}$ as well as $Z^{}_{μτ}$ detecting can be achieved via $e^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{2}(\to{Z_{μτ}Z_{μτ}})}\to~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T}$ process and a 5$σ$ sensitivity of $Z^{}_{μτ}$ detecting can be gained via $e^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{1}(\to{Z^{}_{μτ}Z^{}_{μτ}})\to}~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T}$ process at e-p colliders with appropriate parameter values and a designed integrated luminosity. However, the signals of $h_{2}$ decays into pair of SM particles are difficult to be detected.

Searching for axionlike particle at future $ep$ colliders

We explore the possibility of searching for axionlike particle (ALP) by $ep$ collisions via the subprocess $e^{-}γ\rightarrow e^{-}a \rightarrow e^{-}γγ$. Sensitivities to the effective ALP-photon coupling $g_{aγγ}$ for its mass in the range of 10 GeV $< M_{a}< 3$ TeV are obtained for the LHeC and its high-energy upgrade, FCC-eh. Comparing to existing bounds on the ALP free parameters, we find that the bounds given by $ep$ colliders are competitive and complementary to other colliders.

Constraints on scalar and vector leptoquarks from the LHC Higgs data

We study contributions of single scalar or vector leptoquark (LQ) to loop-induced Higgs processes, gluon fusion production ($g g \to h$) and $h \to γγ$ decay, by analyzing the current Higgs data from the LHC Run I and II. Scalar LQ is studied in a model independent way, while the vector LQ $U_1(\mathbf{3},\mathbf{1},2/3)$ is discussed in the '4321' model. Constraints on the interactions of LQ and Higgs boson are obtained. We provide a method to determine vacuum expectation values $\upsilon_3$ and $\upsilon_1$ of the new scalar fields $Ω_3$ and $Ω_1$ in the '4321' model via the combination of Higgs data and measurements of $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$.

Search for vector-like bottom quark via $Zb$ production at the LHC

Vector-like quarks (VLQs) are predicted in many new physics scenarios beyond the standard model (SM). We consider a search strategy for vector-like bottom quark (VLQ-$B$) at the LHC in a model independent fashion. Our analysis is based on single production of VLQ-$B$ with decaying to the $ Zb$ mode. The production cross sections and the signal significance $SS$ are calculated, and the observability of the VLQ-$B$ signal is investigated. Our numerical results show that the possible signals of the VLQ-$B$ with electric charge of $Q_B= -1/3$, which is the $SU(2)$ singlet, might be detected via the process $pp \to B \to Z~(\to l^+ l^-) b$ at the upgraded LHC.

Further study on the textures of neutrino mass matrix for maximal atmospherical mixing angle and Dirac CP phase

In this paper, we derive in a novel approach the possible textures of neutrino mass matrix that can lead to maximal atmospherical mixing angle ($θ^{}_{23} = π/4$) and Dirac CP phase ($δ= - π/2$) in two phenomenologically appealing scenarios: (1) one neutrino mass matrix element being vanishing (2) one neutrino mass being vanishing. For the obtained textures, some neutrino mass sum rules which relate the neutrino masses and mixing parameters will emerge. With the help of these sum rules, the unknown absolute neutrino mass scale and Majorana CP phases can be determined. Some discussions about the possible textures of neutrino mass matrix that can lead to $θ^{}_{23} = π/4$, $δ= - π/2$ and maximal Majorana CP phases ($ρ, σ= π/4$ or $3π/4$) as well as the model realization and breakings of the obtained textures are also given.

On the textures of neutrino mass matrix for maximal atmospheric mixing angle and Dirac CP phase

In this paper, we derive in a novel approach the possible textures of neutrino mass matrix that can lead us to maximal atmospheric mixing angle and Dirac CP phase which are consistent with the current neutrino oscillation data. A total of eleven textures are thus found. Interestingly, the specific texture given by the $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry can be reproduced from one of the obtained textures. For these textures, some neutrino mass sum rules which relate the neutrino masses and Majorana CP phases will emerge.

Determinations of form factors for semileptonic $D\rightarrow K$ decays and leptoquark constraints

By analyzing all existing measurements for $ D\rightarrow K \ell^+ ν_{\ell} $ ( $\ell=e,\ μ$ ) decays, we find that the determinations of both the vector form factor $f_+^K(q^2)$ and scalar form factor $f_0^K(q^2)$ for semileptonic $D\rightarrow K$ decays from these measurements are feasible. By taking the parameterization of the one order series expansion of the $f_+^K(q^2)$ and $f_0^K(q^2)$, $f_+^K(0)|V_{cs}|$ is determined to be $0.7182\pm0.0029$, and the shape parameters of $f_+^K(q^2)$ and $f_0^K(q^2)$ are $r_{+1}=-2.16\pm0.007$ and $r_{01}=0.89\pm3.27$, respectively. Combining with the average $f_+^K(0)$ of $N_f=2+1$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice calculaltion, the $|V_{cs}|$ is extracted to be $0.964\pm0.004\pm0.019$ where the first error is experimental and the second theoretical. Alternatively, the $f_+^K(0)$ is extracted to be $0.7377\pm0.003\pm0.000$ by taking the $|V_{cs}|$ as the value from the global fit with the unitarity constraint of the CKM matrix. Moreover, using the obtained form factors by $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD, we re-analyze these measurements in the context of new physics. Constraints on scalar leptoquarks are obtained for different final states of semileptonic $D \rightarrow K$ decays.

Sterile neutrino and leptonic decays of the pseudoscalar mesons

We consider a scenario with only one sterile neutrino $ N $, negligible mixing with the active neutrinos $ ν_{L} $, where its interactions with ordinary particles could be described in a model independent approach based on an effective theory. Under such a framwork, we consider the contributions of the sterile neutrino $N$ to the pure leptonic decays $ M \rightarrow lν$ and $ ν\overlineν $, and the radiative leptonic decays $ M \rightarrow lνγ$ with $M$ denoting the pseudoscalar mesons $ B $, $ D $ and $ K$. We find that it can produce significant effects on some of these rare decay processes.

Search for light gauge boson $Z^{}_{μτ}$ via ${t}\bar{t}h^{}_{1}$ production at LHC

We consider the production of the new gauge boson $Z^{}_{μτ}$ predicted by the ${U(1)}_{L^{}_μ - L^{}_τ}$ model via SM-like Higgs boson $h^{}_{1}$ decaying in the ${t}\bar{t}h^{}_{1}$ production at LHC. Considering the current constraints on the relevant free parameters, we calculate its production cross section and further investigate the possibility of detecting $Z^{}_{μτ}$ through the process $pp\to{t(\to{bjj})}\bar{t}(\to{\bar{b}l^{-}\barν_{l}})h_{1}(\to{Z_{μτ}Z_{μτ}})\to{b\bar{b}jjl^{-}\barν_{l}}+/\!\!\!\!E_{T}$ at LHC. We find that $Z^{}_{μτ}$ might be detected via this process at LHC with high integrated luminosity.

Double Elementary Goldstone Higgs Boson Production in Future Linear Colliders

The Elementary Goldstone Higgs (EGH) model is a perturbative extension of the standard model (SM), which identifies the EGH boson as the observed Higgs boson. In this paper, we study pair production of the EGH boson in future linear electron positron colliders. The cross sections in the TeV region can be changed to about $-27\%$, $163\%$ and $-34\%$ for the $e^+e^-\rightarrow Zhh$, $e^+e^-\rightarrow ν\barνhh$, and $e^+e^-\rightarrow t\bar{t}hh$ processes with respect to the SM predictions, respectively. According to the expected measurement precisions, such correction effects might be observed in future linear colliders. In addition, we compare the cross sections of double SM-like Higgs boson production with the predictions in other new physics models.

Majorana neutrino signals at Belle-II and ILC

For some theoretical and experimental considerations, the relatively light Majorana neutrinos at the GeV scale have been attracting some interest. In this article we consider a scenario with only one Majorana neutrino $N$, negligible mixing with the active neutrinos $ν_{L}$, where the Majorana neutrino interactions could be described in a model independent approach based on an effective theory. Under such a framework, we particularly study the feasibility of observing the $N$ with mass in the range 0$-$30 GeV via the process $e^+ e^- \to νN \toγ+ \slashed E$ in the future Belle-II and ILC experiments. The results show that it is unpromising for Belle-II to observe the signal, while ILC may easily make a discovery for the Majorana neutrino.

Neutrino mu-tau reflection symmetry and its breaking in the minimal seesaw

In this paper, we attempt to implement the neutrino $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry (which predicts $θ^{}_{23} = π/4$ and $δ= \pm π/2$ as well as trivial Majorana phases) in the minimal seesaw (which enables us to fix the neutrino masses). For some direct (the preliminary experimental hints towards $θ^{}_{23} \neq π/4$ and $δ\neq - π/2$) and indirect (inclusion of the renormalization group equation effect and implementation of the leptogenesis mechanism) reasons, we particularly study the breakings of this symmetry and their phenomenological consequences.
