Continuous Angular Power Spectrum Recovery From Channel Covariance via Chebyshev Polynomials

This paper proposes a Chebyshev polynomial expansion framework for the recovery of a continuous angular power spectrum (APS) from channel covariance. By exploiting the orthogonality of Chebyshev polynomials in a transformed domain, we derive an exact series representation of the covariance and reformulate the inherently ill-posed APS inversion as a finite-dimensional linear regression problem via truncation. The associated approximation error is directly controlled by the tail of the APS's Chebyshev series and decays rapidly with increasing angular smoothness. Building on this representation, we derive an exact semidefinite characterization of nonnegative APS and introduce a derivative-based regularizer that promotes smoothly varying APS profiles while preserving transitions of clusters. Simulation results show that the proposed Chebyshev-based framework yields accurate APS reconstruction, and enables reliable downlink (DL) covariance prediction from uplink (UL) measurements in a frequency division duplex (FDD) setting. These findings indicate that jointly exploiting smoothness and nonnegativity in a Chebyshev domain provides an effective tool for covariance-domain processing in multi-antenna systems.

Affine-Projection Recovery of Continuous Angular Power Spectrum: Geometry and Resolution

This paper considers recovering a continuous angular power spectrum (APS) from the channel covariance. Building on the projection-onto-linear-variety (PLV) algorithm, an affine-projection approach introduced by Miretti \emph{et. al.}, we analyze PLV in a well-defined \emph{weighted} Fourier-domain to emphasize its geometric interpretability. This yields an explicit fixed-dimensional trigonometric-polynomial representation and a closed-form solution via a positive-definite matrix, which directly implies uniqueness. We further establish an exact energy identity that yields the APS reconstruction error and leads to a sharp identifiability/resolution characterization: PLV achieves perfect recovery if and only if the ground-truth APS lies in the identified trigonometric-polynomial subspace; otherwise it returns the minimum-energy APS among all covariance-consistent spectra.

Precise Analysis of Covariance Identifiability for Activity Detection in Grant-Free Random Access

We consider the identifiability issue of maximum likelihood based activity detection in massive MIMO based grant-free random access. A prior work by Chen et al. indicates that the identifiability undergoes a phase transition for commonly-used random signatures. In this paper, we provide an analytical characterization of the boundary of the phase transition curve. Our theoretical results agree well with the numerical experiments.

Receiver Design for MIMO Unsourced Random Access with SKP Coding

In this letter, we extend the sparse Kronecker-product (SKP) coding scheme, originally designed for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, to multiple input multiple output (MIMO) unsourced random access (URA). With the SKP coding adopted for MIMO transmission, we develop an efficient Bayesian iterative receiver design to solve the intended challenging trilinear factorization problem. Numerical results show that the proposed design outperforms the existing counterparts, and that it performs well in all simulated settings with various antenna sizes and active-user numbers.

Sparse Kronecker-Product Coding for Unsourced Multiple Access

In this paper, a sparse Kronecker-product (SKP) coding scheme is proposed for unsourced multiple access. Specifically, the data of each active user is encoded as the Kronecker product of two component codewords with one being sparse and the other being forward-error-correction (FEC) coded. At the receiver, an iterative decoding algorithm is developed, consisting of matrix factorization for the decomposition of the Kronecker product and soft-in soft-out decoding for the component sparse code and the FEC code. The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) aided interference cancellation technique is further incorporated for performance improvement. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the state-of-the-art counterparts, and approaches the random coding bound within a gap of only 0.1 dB at the code length of 30000 when the number of active users is less than 75, and the error rate can be made very small even if the number of active users is relatively large.

Regularized Recovery by Multi-order Partial Hypergraph Total Variation

Capturing complex high-order interactions among data is an important task in many scenarios. A common way to model high-order interactions is to use hypergraphs whose topology can be mathematically represented by tensors. Existing methods use a fixed-order tensor to describe the topology of the whole hypergraph, which ignores the divergence of different-order interactions. In this work, we take this divergence into consideration, and propose a multi-order hypergraph Laplacian and the corresponding total variation. Taking this total variation as a regularization term, we can utilize the topology information contained by it to smooth the hypergraph signal. This can help distinguish different-order interactions and represent high-order interactions accurately.

Joint User Identification, Channel Estimation, and Signal Detection for Grant-Free NOMA

For massive machine-type communications, centralized control may incur a prohibitively high overhead. Grant-free non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) provides possible solutions, yet poses new challenges for efficient receiver design. In this paper, we develop a joint user identification, channel estimation, and signal detection (JUICESD) algorithm. We divide the whole detection scheme into two modules: slot-wise multi-user detection (SMD) and combined signal and channel estimation (CSCE). SMD is designed to decouple the transmissions of different users by leveraging the approximate message passing (AMP) algorithms, and CSCE is designed to deal with the nonlinear coupling of activity state, channel coefficient and transmit signal of each user separately. To address the problem that the exact calculation of the messages exchanged within CSCE and between the two modules is complicated due to phase ambiguity issues, this paper proposes a rotationally invariant Gaussian mixture (RIGM) model, and develops an efficient JUICESD-RIGM algorithm. JUICESD-RIGM achieves a performance close to JUICESD with a much lower complexity. Capitalizing on the feature of RIGM, we further analyze the performance of JUICESD-RIGM with state evolution techniques. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms achieve a significant performance improvement over the existing alternatives, and the derived state evolution method predicts the system performance accurately.

An Entropy-based Proof of Threshold Saturation for Nonbinary SC-LDPC Ensembles on the BEC

In this paper we are concerned with the asymptotic analysis of nonbinary spatially-coupled low-density parity-check (SC-LDPC) ensembles defined over GL$\left(2^{m}\right)$ (the general linear group of degree $m$ over GF$\left(2\right)$). Our purpose is to prove threshold saturation when the transmission takes place on the binary erasure channel (BEC). To this end, we establish the duality rule for entropy for nonbinary variable-node (VN) and check-node (CN) convolutional operators to accommodate the nonbinary density evolution (DE) analysis. Based on this, we construct the explicit forms of the potential functions for uncoupled and coupled DE recursions. In addition, we show that these functions exhibit similar monotonicity properties as those for binary LDPC and SC-LDPC ensembles over general binary memoryless symmetric (BMS) channels. This leads to the threshold saturation theorem and its converse for nonbinary SC-LDPC ensembles on the BEC, following the proof technique developed by S. Kumar et al.

Gridless Variational Bayesian Channel Estimation for Antenna Array Systems with Low Resolution ADCs

Employing low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) coupled with large antenna arrays at the receivers has drawn considerable interests in the millimeter wave (mm-wave) system. Since mm-wave channels are sparse in angular dimensions, exploiting the structure could reduce the number of measurements while achieve acceptable performance at the same time. Motivated by the variational Bayesian line spectral estimation (VALSE) algorithm which treats the angles as random parameters, in contrast with previous works which confine the estimate to the set of grid angle points and induce grid mismatch, this paper proposes the grid-less quantized variational Bayesian channel estimation (GL-QVBCE) algorithm for antenna array systems with low resolution ADCs. Compared to the traditional least squares (LS) approach, numerical results show that GL-QVBCE performs significantly better and asymptotically approaches the Cramèr Rao bound (CRB).

Distributed Coordinated Multicell Beamforming for Wireless Cellular Networks Powered by Renewables: A Stochastic ADMM Approach

The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) has facilitated efficient and sustainable resource allocation for wireless communication systems. In this paper, a novel framework is introduced to develop coordinated multicell beamforming (CMBF) design for wireless cellular networks powered by a smart microgrid, where the BSs are equipped with RES harvesting devices and can perform two-way (i.e., buying/selling) energy trading with the main grid. To this end, new models are put forth to account for the stochastic RES harvesting, two-way energy trading, and conditional value-at-risk (CVaR) based energy transaction cost. Capitalizing on these models, we propose a distributed CMBF solution to minimize the grid-wide transaction cost subject to user quality-of-service (QoS) constraints. Specifically, relying on state-of-the-art optimization tools, we show that the relevant task can be formulated as a convex problem that is well suited for development of a distributed solver. To cope with stochastic availability of the RES, the stochastic alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is then leveraged to develop a novel distributed CMBF scheme. It is established that the proposed scheme is guaranteed to yield the optimal CMBF solution, with only local channel state information available at each BS and limited information exchange among the BSs. Numerical results are provided to corroborate the merits of the proposed scheme.

REEL-BF Design: Achieving the SDP Bound for Downlink Beamforming with Arbitrary Shaping Constraints

This paper considers the beamforming design for a multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) downlink with an arbitrary number of (context-specific) shaping constraints. In this setup, the state-of-the-art beamforming schemes cannot attain the well-known performance bound promised by the semidefinite program (SDP) relaxation technique. To close the gap, we propose a redundant-signal embedded linear beamforming (REEL-BF) scheme, where each user is assigned with one information beamformer and several shaping beamformers. It is shown that the proposed REEL-BF scheme can perform general rank-$K$ beamforming for user symbols in a low-complexity and structured manner. In addition, sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee that the REEL-BF scheme always achieves the SDP bound for linear beamforming schemes. Based on such conditions, an efficient algorithm is then developed to obtain the optimal REEL-BF solution in polynomial time. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme enjoys substantial performance gains over the existing alternatives.

Achievable Rates of MIMO Systems with Linear Precoding and Iterative LMMSE Detection

We establish area theorems for iterative detection over coded linear systems (including multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) channels, inter-symbol-interference (ISI) channels, and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems). We propose a linear precoding technique that asymptotically ensures the Gaussianness of the messages passed in iterative detection, as the transmission block length tends to infinity. We show that the proposed linear precoding scheme with iterative linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) detection is potentially information lossless, under various assumptions on the availability of channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). Numerical results are provided to verify our analysis.

Lie Superalgebras arising from bosonic representation

A 2-toroidal Lie superalgebra is constructed using bosonic fields and a ghost field. The superalgebra contains $osp(1|2n)^{(1)}$ as a distinguished subalgebra and behaves similarly to the toroidal Lie superalgebra of type $B(0, n)$. Furthermore this algebra is a central extension of the algebra $osp(1|2n)\otimes \mathbb C[s, s^{-1}, t,t^{-1}]$.

Bosonic realization of toroidal Lie algebras of classical types

Generalizing Feingold-Frenkel's construction we use Weyl bosonic fields to construct toroidal Lie algebras of types $A_n, B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$ of level $-1, -2, -1/2$ and -2 respectively. In particular, our construction also gives new bosonic construction for the orthogonal Lie algebras in the cases of affine Lie algebras.
