A unified framework based on graph consensus term for multi-view learning

In recent years, multi-view learning technologies for various applications have attracted a surge of interest. Due to more compatible and complementary information from multiple views, existing multi-view methods could achieve more promising performance than conventional single-view methods in most situations. However, there are still no sufficient researches on the unified framework in existing multi-view works. Meanwhile, how to efficiently integrate multi-view information is still full of challenges. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-view learning framework, which aims to leverage most existing graph embedding works into a unified formula via introducing the graph consensus term. In particular, our method explores the graph structure in each view independently to preserve the diversity property of graph embedding methods. Meanwhile, we choose heterogeneous graphs to construct the graph consensus term to explore the correlations among multiple views jointly. To this end, the diversity and complementary information among different views could be simultaneously considered. Furthermore, the proposed framework is utilized to implement the multi-view extension of Locality Linear Embedding, named Multi-view Locality Linear Embedding (MvLLE), which could be efficiently solved by applying the alternating optimization strategy. Empirical validations conducted on six benchmark datasets can show the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Managing Multi-Granular Linguistic Distribution Assessments in Large-Scale Multi-Attribute Group Decision Making

Linguistic large-scale group decision making (LGDM) problems are more and more common nowadays. In such problems a large group of decision makers are involved in the decision process and elicit linguistic information that are usually assessed in different linguistic scales with diverse granularity because of decision makers' distinct knowledge and background. To keep maximum information in initial stages of the linguistic LGDM problems, the use of multi-granular linguistic distribution assessments seems a suitable choice, however to manage such multigranular linguistic distribution assessments, it is necessary the development of a new linguistic computational approach. In this paper it is proposed a novel computational model based on the use of extended linguistic hierarchies, which not only can be used to operate with multi-granular linguistic distribution assessments, but also can provide interpretable linguistic results to decision makers. Based on this new linguistic computational model, an approach to linguistic large-scale multi-attribute group decision making is proposed and applied to a talent selection process in universities.

Optimization of network structure to random failures

Network's resilience to the malfunction of its components has been of great concern. The goal of this work is to determine the network design guidelines, which maximizes the network efficiency while keeping the cost of the network (that is the average connectivity) constant. With a global optimization method, memory tabu search (MTS), we get the optimal network structure with the approximately best efficiency. We analyze the statistical characters of the network and find that a network with a small quantity of hub nodes, high degree of clustering may be much more resilient to perturbations than a random network and the optimal network is one kind of highly heterogeneous networks. The results strongly suggest that networks with higher efficiency are more robust to random failures. In addition, we propose a simple model to describe the statistical properties of the optimal network and investigate the synchronizability of this model.

Entropy Optimization of Scale-Free Networks Robustness to Random Failures

Many networks are characterized by highly heterogeneous distributions of links, which are called scale-free networks and the degree distributions follow $p(k)\sim ck^{-α}$. We study the robustness of scale-free networks to random failures from the character of their heterogeneity. Entropy of the degree distribution can be an average measure of a network's heterogeneity. Optimization of scale-free network robustness to random failures with average connectivity constant is equivalent to maximize the entropy of the degree distribution. By examining the relationship of entropy of the degree distribution, scaling exponent and the minimal connectivity, we get the optimal design of scale-free network to random failures. We conclude that entropy of the degree distribution is an effective measure of network's resilience to random failures.

A deterministic small-world network created by edge iterations

Small-world networks are ubiquitous in real-life systems. Most previous models of small-world networks are stochastic. The randomness makes it more difficult to gain a visual understanding on how do different nodes of networks interact with each other and is not appropriate for communication networks that have fixed interconnections. Here we present a model that generates a small-world network in a simple deterministic way. Our model has a discrete exponential degree distribution. We solve the main characteristics of the model.
