Multi-ResNets for Subspace Preconditioning in Constrained Optimization

We propose MResOpt, a staged residual neural network architecture for constrained optimization problems. Our architecture fits within predict-complete-correct pipelines and decomposes constraint satisfaction by priority through intermediate re-completion and stage-aware losses. The framework enables domain-informed ordered constraint satisfaction which allows the network to utilize ordinal structure when present. Under an idealized infinite-width regime, we show that our design behaves as sequential Gaussian Process regression. On synthetic QP, QCQP, and SOCP benchmarks, the staged architecture improves high-priority constraint satisfaction across convex and non-convex settings. On line-flow-constrained AC optimal power flow, we introduce a physics-motivated constraint ordering and show that MResOpt supports a learned division of labor that keeps iterates on the equality manifold, achieving substantially lower high-priority violation than reprojected baselines while remaining computationally efficient.

Effects of the ekpyrotic mechanism on inflationary phase in loop quantum cosmologies

In bouncing cosmological models, either classical or quantum, the big bang singularity is replaced by a regular bounce. A challenging question in such models is how to keep the shear under control in the contracting phase, as it is well-known that the shear grows as fast as $1/a^{6}$ toward the bounce, where $a$ is the average expansion factor of the universe. A common approach is to introduce a scalar field with an ekpyrotic-like potential which becomes negative near the bounce, so the effective equation of state of the scalar field will be greater than one, whereby it dominates the shear in the bounce region. As a result, a homogeneous and isotropic universe can be produced after the bounce. In this paper, we study how the ekpyrotic mechanism affects the inflationary phase in both loop quantum cosmology (LQC) and a modified loop quantum cosmological model (mLQC-I), because in these frameworks inflation is generic without such a mechanism. After numerically studying various cases in which the potential of the inflaton consists of two parts, an inflationary potential and an ekpyrotic-like one, we find that, despite the fact that the influence is significant, by properly choosing the free parameters involved in the models, the ekpyrotic-like potential dominates in the bounce region, during which the effective equation of state is larger than one, so the shear problem is resolved. As the time continuously increases after the bounce, the inflationary potential grows and ultimately becomes dominant, resulting in an inflationary phase. This phase can last long enough to solve the cosmological problems existing in the big bang model.

Universal properties of the evolution of the Universe in modified loop quantum cosmology

In this paper, we systematically study the evolution of the Universe in the framework of a modified loop quantum cosmological model (mLQC-I) with various inflationary potentials, including chaotic, Starobinsky, generalized Starobinsky, polynomials of the first and second kinds, generalized T- models and natural inflation. In all these models, the big bang singularity is replaced by a quantum bounce, and the evolution of the Universe both before and after the bounce is universal and weakly depends on the inflationary potentials, as long as the evolution is dominated by the kinetic energy of the inflaton at the bounce. In particular, the evolution in the pre-bounce region can be universally divided into three different phases: pre-bouncing, pre-transition, and pre-de Sitter. The pre-bouncing phase occurs immediately before the quantum bounce, during which the evolution of the Universe is dominated by the kinetic energy of the inflaton. Thus, the equation of state of the inflaton is about one, w = 1. Soon, the inflation potential takes over, so w rapidly falls from one to negative one. This pre-transition phase is very short and quickly turns into the pre-de Sitter phase, whereby the effective cosmological constant with a Planck size takes over and dominates the rest of the contracting phase. In the entire pre-bounce regime, the evolution of the expansion factor and the inflaton can be approximated by analytical solutions, which are universal and independent of the inflation potentials.

Irreducible skew polynomials over domains

Let $S$ be a domain and $R=S[t;σ,δ]$ a skew polynomial ring, where $σ$ is an injective endomorphism of $S$ and $δ$ a left $σ$ -derivation. We give criteria for skew polynomials $f\in R$ of degree less or equal to four to be irreducible. We apply them to low degree polynomials in quantized Weyl algebras and the quantum planes. We also consider $f(t)=t^m-a\in R$.

How a nonassociative algebra reflects the properties of a skew polynomial

Let $S$ be a unital associative ring and $S[t;σ,δ]$ be a skew polynomial ring, where $σ$ is an injective endomorphism of $S$ and $δ$ a left $σ$-derivation. For each $f\in S[t;σ,δ]$ of degree $m>1$ with a unit as leading coefficient, we construct a unital nonassociative algebra whose behaviour reflects the properties of $f$. The algebras obtained yield canonical examples of right division algebras when $f$ is irreducible. We investigate the structure of these algebras. The structure of their right nucleus depends on the choice of $f$. In the classical literature, this nucleus appears as the eigenspace of $f$, and is used to investigate the irreducible factors of $f$. We give necessary and sufficient criteria for skew polynomials of low degree to be irreducible.

Petit Algebras and their Automorphisms

In this thesis, we study the properties of a nonassociative algebra construction from skew polynomial rings. This construction was introduced by Petit in the 1960s but largely ignored until recently. In particular, the automorphism groups of these algebras are studied, paying particular attention to the case when the construction yields a finite semifield. The thesis is concluded by revisiting a result on associative solvable crossed product algebras by both Petit and Albert. We show a crossed product algebra is solvable if and only if it can be written as a chain of Petit algebras satisfying certain conditions.

Nonassociative cyclic extensions of fields and central simple algebras

We define nonassociative cyclic extensions of degree m of both fields and central simple algebras over fields. If a suitable field contains a primitive mth (resp., qth) root of unity, we show that suitable nonassociative generalized cyclic division algebras yield nonassociative cyclic extensions of degree m (resp., qs). Some of Amitsur's classical results on non-commutative associative cyclic extensions of both fields and central simple algebras are obtained as special cases.

Automorphisms and isomorphisms of Jha-Johnson semifields obtained from skew polynomial rings

We study the automorphisms of Jha-Johnson semifields obtained from an invariant irreducible twisted polynomial $f\in K[t;σ]$, where $K=\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ is a finite field and $σ$ an automorphism of $K$ of order $n$, with a particualr emphasis on inner automorphisms and the automorphisms of Sandler and Hughes-Kleinfeld semifields. We include the automorphisms of some Knuth semifields (which do not arise from skew polynomial rings). Isomorphism between Jha-Johnson semifields are considered as well.

The automorphisms of Petit's algebras

Let $σ$ be an automorphism of a field $K$ with fixed field $F$. We study the automorphisms of nonassociative unital algebras which are canonical generalizations of the associative quotient algebras $K[t;σ]/fK[t;σ]$ obtained when the twisted polynomial $f\in K[t;σ]$ is invariant, and were first defined by Petit. We compute all their automorphisms if $σ$ commutes with all automorphisms in ${\rm Aut}_F(K)$ and $n\geq m-1$, where $n$ is the order of $σ$ and $m$ the degree of $f$,and obtain partial results for $n<m-1$. In the case where $K/F$ is a finite Galois field extension, we obtain more detailed information on the structure of the automorphism groups of these nonassociative unital algebras over $F$. We also briefly investigate when two such algebras are isomorphic.

Solvable crossed product algebras revisited

For any central simple algebra over a field F which contains a maximal subfield M with non-trivial F-automorphism group G, G is solvable if and only if the algebra contains a finite chain of subalgebras which are generalized cyclic algebras over their centers (field extensions of F) satisfying certain conditions. These subalgebras are related to a normal subseries of G. A crossed product algebra F is hence solvable if and only if it can be constructed out of such a finite chain of subalgebras. This result was stated for division crossed product algebras by Petit, and overlaps with a similar result by Albert which, however, is not explicitly stated in these terms. In particular, every solvable crossed product division algebra is a generalized cyclic algebra over F.
