Perfectoid Shimura varieties and the Calegari-Emerton conjectures

We prove many new cases of a conjecture of Calegari-Emerton describing the qualitative properties of completed cohomology. The heart of our argument is a careful inductive analysis of completed cohomology on the Borel-Serre boundary. As a key input to this induction, we prove a new perfectoidness result for towers of minimally compactified Shimura varieties of pre-abelian type, generalizing previous work of Scholze.

A note on the cohomology of moduli spaces of local shtukas

We study localized versions of the spectral action of Fargues--Scholze, using methods from higher algebra. As our main motivation and application, we deduce a formula for the cohomology of moduli spaces of local shtukas under certain genericity assumptions, and discuss its relation with the Kottwitz conjecture.

Moduli stacks of Galois representations and the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$

We give a categorical formulation of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$,as an embedding of the derived category of locally admissible representations into the category of Ind-coherent sheaves on the moduli stack of two-dimensional representations of $\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$. Moreover, we relate our version of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ to the cohomology of modular curves through a local-global compatibility formula.

Topics in Adic Spaces

These are expanded notes from a four lecture mini-course given by the author at the Spring School on Non-archimedean geometry and Eigenvarieties, held at the University of Heidelberg in March 2023. The course discusses coherent sheaves, various properties of morphisms, as well as the links to formal geometry and Berkovich spaces.

Endoscopy on $\mathrm{SL}_2$-eigenvarieties

In this paper, we study p-adic endoscopy on eigenvarieties for $\mathrm{SL}_2$ over totally real fields, taking a geometric perspective. We show that non-automorphic members of endoscopic L-packets of regular weight contribute eigenvectors to overconvergent cohomology at critically refined endoscopic points on the eigenvariety, and we precisely quantify this contribution. This gives a new perspective on and generalizes previous work of the second author. Our methods are geometric, and are based on showing that the $\mathrm{SL}_2$-eigenvariety is locally a quotient of an eigenvariety for $\mathrm{GL}_2$, which allows us to explicitly describe the local geometry of the $\mathrm{SL}_2$-eigenvariety. In particular, we show that it often fails to be Gorenstein at such points.

Vanishing theorems for Shimura varieties at unipotent level

We show that the compactly supported cohomology of Shimura varieties of Hodge type of infinite $Γ_1(p^\infty)$-level (defined with respect to a Borel subgroup) vanishes above the middle degree, under the assumption that the group of the Shimura datum splits at $p$. This generalizes and strengthens the vanishing result proved in "Shimura varieties at level $Γ_1(p^\infty)$ and Galois representations". As an application of this vanishing theorem, we prove a result on the codimensions of ordinary completed homology for the same groups, analogous to conjectures of Calegari--Emerton for completed (Borel--Moore) homology.

A quotient of the Lubin-Tate tower II

In this article we construct the quotient M_1/P(K) of the infinite-level Lubin-Tate space M_1 by the parabolic subgroup P(K) of GL(n,K) of block form (n-1,1) as a perfectoid space, generalizing results of one of the authors (JL) to arbitrary n and K/Q_p finite. For this we prove some perfectoidness results for certain Harris-Taylor Shimura varieties at infinite level. As an application of the quotient construction we show a vanishing theorem for Scholze's candidate for the mod p Jacquet-Langlands and the mod p local Langlands correspondence. An appendix by David Hansen gives a local proof of perfectoidness of M_1/P(K) when n = 2, and shows that M_1/Q(K) is not perfectoid for maximal parabolics Q not conjugate to P.

Extended eigenvarieties for overconvergent cohomology

Recently, Andreatta, Iovita and Pilloni have constructed spaces of overconvergent modular forms in characteristic p, together with a natural extension of the Coleman-Mazur eigencurve over a compactified (adic) weight space. Similar ideas have also been used by Liu, Wan and Xiao to study the boundary of the eigencurve. This all goes back to an idea of Coleman. In this article, we construct natural extensions of eigenvarieties for arbitrary reductive groups G over a number field which are split at all places above p. If G is GL(2)/Q, then we obtain a new construction of the extended eigencurve of Andreatta-Iovita-Pilloni. If G is an inner form of GL(2) associated to a definite quaternion algebra, our work gives a new perspective on some of the results of Liu-Wan-Xiao. We build our extended eigenvarieties following Hansen's construction using overconvergent cohomology. One key ingredient is a definition of locally analytic distribution modules which permits coefficients of characteristic p (and mixed characteristic). When G is GL(n) over a totally real or CM number field, we also construct a family of Galois representations over the reduced extended eigenvariety.

Shimura varieties at level $Γ_1(p^\infty)$ and Galois representations

We show that the compactly supported cohomology of certain $\mathrm{U}(n,n)$ or $\mathrm{Sp}(2n)$-Shimura varieties with $Γ_1(p^\infty)$-level vanishes above the middle degree. The only assumption is that we work over a CM field $F$ in which the prime $p$ splits completely. We also give an application to Galois representations for torsion in the cohomology of the locally symmetric spaces for $\mathrm{GL}_n/F$. More precisely, we use the vanishing result for Shimura varieties to eliminate the nilpotent ideal in the construction of these Galois representations. This strengthens recent results of Scholze and Newton-Thorne.

Parallel weight 2 points on Hilbert modular eigenvarieties and the parity conjecture

Let F be a totally real field of degree d and let p be an odd prime which is totally split in F. We define and study one-dimensional partial eigenvarieties interpolating Hilbert modular forms over F with weight varying only at a single place v above p. For these eigenvarieties, we show that methods developed by Liu, Wan and Xiao apply and deduce that, over a boundary annulus in weight space of sufficiently small radius, the partial eigenvarieties decompose as a disjoint union of components which are finite over weight space. We apply this result to prove the parity version of the Bloch--Kato conjecture for finite slope Hilbert modular forms with trivial central character (under some assumptions), by reducing to the case of parallel weight 2. As another consequence of our results on partial eigenvarieties, we show, still under the assumption that p is totally split in F, that the full (dimension 1 + d) cuspidal Hilbert modular eigenvariety has the property that many (all, if d is even) irreducible components contain a classical point with non-critical slopes and parallel weight 2 (with some character at p whose conductor can be explicitly bounded), or any other algebraic weight.

Irreducible components of extended eigenvarieties and interpolating Langlands functoriality

We study the basic geometry of a class of analytic adic spaces that arise in the study of the extended (or adic) eigenvarieties constructed by Andreatta--Iovita--Pilloni, Gulotta and the authors. We apply this to prove a general interpolation theorem for Langlands functoriality, which works for extended eigenvarieties and improves upon existing results in characteristic 0. As an application, we show that the characteristic p locus of the extended eigenvariety for GL(2)/F, where F is a cyclic extension of the rational numbers Q, contains non-ordinary components of dimension at least [F:Q].

Operational thermal load forecasting in district heating networks using machine learning and expert advice

Forecasting thermal load is a key component for the majority of optimization solutions for controlling district heating and cooling systems. Recent studies have analysed the results of a number of data-driven methods applied to thermal load forecasting, this paper presents the results of combining a collection of these individual methods in an expert system. The expert system will combine multiple thermal load forecasts in a way that it always tracks the best expert in the system. This solution is tested and validated using a thermal load dataset of 27 months obtained from 10 residential buildings located in Rottne, Sweden together with outdoor temperature information received from a weather forecast service. The expert system is composed of the following data-driven methods: linear regression, extremely randomized trees regression, feed-forward neural network and support vector machine. The results of the proposed solution are compared with the results of the individual methods.

Local Langlands correspondence in rigid families

We show that local-global compatibility (at split primes) away from $p$ holds at all points of the $p$-adic eigenvariety of a definite $n$-variable unitary group. The novelty is we allow non-classical points, possibly non-étale over weight space. More precisely we interpolate the local Langlands correspondence for GL(n) across the eigenvariety by considering the fibers of its defining coherent sheaf. We employ techniques of Scholze from his new approach to the local Langlands conjecture.

Overconvergent modular forms and perfectoid Shimura curves

We give a new construction of overconvergent modular forms of arbitrary weights, defining them in terms of functions on certain affinoid subsets of Scholze's infinite-level modular curve. These affinoid subsets, and a certain canonical coordinate on them, play a role in our construction which is strongly analogous with the role of the upper half-plane and its coordinate `z' in the classical analytic theory of modular forms. As one application of these ideas, we define and study an overconvergent Eichler-Shimura map in the context of compact Shimura curves over $\mathbb{Q}$, proving stronger analogues of results of Andreatta-Iovita-Stevens.

A trace formula approach to control theorems for overconvergent automorphic forms

We present an approach to proving control theorems for overconvergent automorphic forms on some Harris-Taylor unitary Shimura varieties based on a comparison between the rigid coho- mology of the multiplicative ordinary locus and the rigid cohomology of the overlying Igusa tower, the latter which may be computed using the Harris-Taylor version of the Langlands-Kottwitz method. We also prove a higher level version, generalizing work of Coleman.

A canonical dimension estimate for non-split semisimple p-adic Lie groups

We prove that the canonical dimension of an admissible Banach space or a locally analytic representation of an arbitrary semisimple p-adic Lie group is either zero or at least half the dimension of a non-zero coadjoint orbit. This extends the results of Ardakov-Wadsley and Schmidt in the split semisimple case.
