Asymptotic structure and stability of spatially homogeneous space-times with a positive cosmological constant

We investigate the future asymptotics of spatially homogeneous space-times with a positive cosmological constant by using and further developing geometric conformal methods in General Relativity. For a large class of source fields, including fluids with anisotropic stress, we prove that the space-times are future asymptotically simple and geometrically conformally regular. We use that result in order to show the global conformal regularity of the Einstein-Maxwell system as well as the Einstein-radiation, Einstein-dust, massless Einstein-Vlasov and particular Einstein-scalar field systems for Bianchi space-times. Taking into account previous results, this implies the future non-linear stability of some of those space-times in the sense that, for small perturbations, the space-times approach locally the de Sitter solution asymptotically in time. This extends some cosmic no-hair theorems to almost spatially homogeneous space-times. However, we find that the conformal Einstein field equations preserve the Bianchi type even at conformal infinity, so the resulting asymptotic space-times have conformal hair.

Q-curvature of Weyl structures and Poincaré metrics

We study an asymptotic Dirichlet problem for Weyl structures on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. By the bulk-boundary correspondence, or more precisely by the Fefferman-Graham theorem on Poincaré metrics, this leads to a natural extension of the notion of Branson's $Q$-curvature to Weyl structures on even-dimensional conformal manifolds.

Conformal scalar fields, isotropic singularities and conformal cyclic cosmologies

We analyse spacetimes with a conformal scalar field source, a cosmological constant and a quartic self-interaction term for the scalar field. We also consider additional matter contents in the form of Maxwell and Yang-Mills fields or radiation fluids. Existence theorems for weakly asymptotically flat spacetimes are given. We give a generalisation of Bekenstein's result [Ann. Phys. 82, 535 (1974)] and use it to derive existence theorems for spacetimes that contain an isotropic singularity. The results are combined to suggest a mathematical setup for Penrose's CCC scenario using a conformal scalar field cosmology.

On the conformal structure of the extremal Reissner-Nordström spacetime

We analyse various conformal properties of the extremal Reissner-Nordström spacetime. In particular, we obtain conformal representations of the neighbourhoods of spatial infinity, timelike infinity and the cylindrical end ---the so-called cylinders at spatial infinity and at the horizon, respectively--- which are regular with respect to the conformal Einstein field equations and their associated initial data sets. We discuss possible implications of these constructions for the propagation of test fields and non-linear perturbations of the gravitational field close to the horizon.

A note on the coincidence of the projective and conformal Weyl tensors

This article examines the coincidence of the projective and conformal Weyl tensors associated to a given connection D. The connection may be a general Weyl connection associated to a conformal class of metrics [g]. The main result for n>3 is that the Weyl tensors coincide iff D is the Levi-Civita connection of an Einstein metric.

A class of conformal curves in the Reissner-Nordström spacetime

A class of curves with special conformal properties (conformal curves) is studied on the Reissner-Nordström spacetime. It is shown that initial data for the conformal curves can be prescribed so that the resulting congruence of curves extends smoothly to future and past null infinity. The formation of conjugate points on these congruences is examined. The results of this analysis are expected to be of relevance for the discussion of the Reissner-Nordström spacetime as a solution to the conformal field equations and for the global numerical evaluation of static black hole spacetimes.

The extended Conformal Einstein field equations with matter: the Einstein-Maxwell field

A discussion is given of the conformal Einstein field equations coupled with matter whose energy-momentum tensor is trace-free. These resulting equations are expressed in terms of a generic Weyl connection. The article shows how in the presence of matter it is possible to construct a conformal gauge which allows to know \emph{a priori} the location of the conformal boundary. In vacuum this gauge reduces to the so-called conformal Gaussian gauge. These ideas are applied to obtain: (i) a new proof of the stability of Einstein-Maxwell de Sitter-like spacetimes; (ii) a proof of the semi-global stability of purely radiative Einstein-Maxwell spacetimes.

An extension theorem for conformal gauge singularities

We analyse conformal gauge, or isotropic, singularities in cosmological models in general relativity. Using the calculus of tractors, we find conditions in terms of tractor curvature for a local extension of the conformal structure through a cosmological singularity and prove a local extension theorem.

A Conformal Extension Theorem based on Null Conformal Geodesics

In this article we describe the formulation of null geodesics as null conformal geodesics and their description in the tractor formalism. A conformal extension theorem through an isotropic singularity is proven by requiring the boundedness of the tractor curvature and its derivatives to sufficient order along a congruence of null conformal geodesic. This article extends earlier work by Tod and Luebbe.

Conformal Properties of an Evaporating Black Hole Model

We use a new, conformally-invariant method of analysis to test incomplete null geodesics approaching the singularity in a model of an evaporating black hole for the possibility of extensions of the conformal metric. In general, a local conformal extension is possible from the future but not from the past.
