Integral Calculus on Quantum Exterior Algebras

Hom-connections and associated integral forms have been introduced and studied by T.Brzeziński as an adjoint version of the usual notion of a connection in non-commutative geometry. Given a flat hom-connection on a differential calculus $(Ω, d)$ over an algebra $A$ yields the integral complex which for various algebras has been shown to be isomorphic to the noncommutative de Rham complex (in the sense of Brzeziński et al.). In this paper we shed further light on the question when the integral and the de Rham complex are isomorphic for an algebra $A$ with a flat hom-connection. We specialise our study to the case where an $n$-dimensional differential calculus can be constructed on a quantum exterior algebra over an $A$-bimodule. Criteria are given for free bimodules with diagonal or upper triangular bimodule structure. Our results are illustrated for a differential calculus on a multivariate quantum polynomial algebra and for a differential calculus on Manin's quantum $n$-space.

On Topological Lattices and an Application to First Submodules

We introduce the notion of a (strongly) topological lattice $\mathcal{L}=(L,\wedge ,\vee)$ with respect to a subset $X\subsetneqq L;$ aprototype is the lattice of (two-sided) ideals of a ring $R,$ which is(strongly) topological with respect to the prime spectrum of $R.$ We investigate and characterize (strongly) topological lattices. Given a non-zero left $R$-module $M,$ we introduce and investigate the spectrum $\mathrm{Spec}^{\mathrm{f}}(M)$ of \textit{first submodules} of $M.$ We topologize $\mathrm{Spec}^{\mathrm{f}}(M)$ and investigate the algebraic properties of $_{R}M$ by passing to the topological properties of the associated space.

Endomorphism rings of modules over prime rings

Endomorphism rings of modules appear as the center of a ring, as the fix ring of ring with group action or as the subring of constants of a derivation. This note discusses the question whether certain *-prime modules (introduced by Bican et al.) have a prime endomorphism ring. Several conditions are presented that guarantee the primness of the endomorphism ring. The contours of a possible example of a *-prime module whose endomorphism ring is not prime are traced.

The dual notion of strong irreducibility

This note gives a unifying characterization and exposition of strongly irreducible elements and their duals in lattices. The interest in the study of strong irreducibility stems from commutative ring theory, while the dual concept of strong irreducibility had been used to define Zariski-like topologies on specific lattices of submodules of a given module over an associative ring. Based on our lattice theoretical approach, we give a unifying treatment of strong irreducibility, dualize results on strongly irreducible submodules, examine its behavior under central localization and apply our theory to the frame of hereditary torsion theories.

Injective hulls of simple modules over finite dimensional nilpotent complex Lie superalgebras

We show that the finite dimensional nilpotent complex Lie superalgebras g whose injective hulls of simple U(g)-modules are locally Artinian are precisely those whose even part g_0 is isomorphic to a nilpotent Lie algebra with an abelian ideal of codimension 1 or to a direct product of an abelian Lie algebra and a certain 5-dimensional or a certain 6-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra.

Irreducible actions and compressible modules

Any finite set of linear operators on an algebra $A$ yields an operator algebra $B$ and a module structure on A, whose endomorphism ring is isomorphic to a subring $A^B$ of certain invariant elements of $A$. We show that if $A$ is a critically compressible left $B$-module, then the dimension of its self-injective hull $A$ over the ring of fractions of $A^B$ is bounded by the uniform dimension of $A$ and the number of linear operators generating $B$. This extends a known result on irreducible Hopf actions and applies in particular to weak Hopf action. Furthermore we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for an algebra A to be critically compressible in the case of group actions, group gradings and Lie actions.

Injective Modules over Down-Up Algebras

The purpose of this paper is to study finiteness conditions on injective hulls of simple modules over Noetherian Down-Up algebras. We will show that the Noetherian Down-Up algebras A(α,β,γ) which are fully bounded are precisely those which are module-finite over a central subalgebra. We show that injective hulls of simple A(α,β,γ)-modules are locally Artinian provided the roots of X^2-αX-βare distinct roots of unity or both equal to one.

Non-commutative integral forms and twisted multi-derivations

Non-commutative connections of the second type or hom-connections and associated integral forms are studied as generalisations of right connections of Manin. First, it is proven that the existence of hom-connections with respect to the universal differential graded algebra is tantamount to the injectivity, and that every finitely cogenerated injective module admits a hom-connection with respect to any differential graded algebra. The bulk of the paper is devoted to describing a method of constructing hom-connections from twisted multi-derivations. The notion of a free twisted multi-derivation is introduced and the induced first order differential calculus is described. It is shown that any free twisted multi-derivation on an algebra A induces a unique hom-connection on A that vanishes on the dual basis for the module of one-forms. To any flat hom-connection \nabla on A one associates a chain complex, termed a complex of integral forms on A. The canonical cokernel morphism to the zeroth homology space is called a \nabla-integral. Examples of free twisted multi-derivations, hom-connections and corresponding integral forms are provided by covariant calculi on Hopf algebras or quantum groups and on quantum spaces. The example of a flat hom-connection within the 3D left-covariant differential calculus on the quantum group SL(2) is described in full detail. A descent of hom-connections to the base algebra of a faithfully flat Hopf-Galois extension or a principal comodule algebra is studied. As an example, a hom-connection on the standard quantum Podles sphere is presented. In both cases the complex of integral forms is shown to be isomorphic to the de Rham complex, and the \nabla-integrals coincide with Hopf-theoretic integrals or invariant (Haar) measures.

Regular and Biregular module algebras

Motivated by the study of von Neumann regular skew groups as carried out by Alfaro, Ara and del Rio in 1995 we investigate regular and biregular Hopf module algebras. If $A$ is an algebra with an action by an affine Hopf algebra $H$, then any $H$-stable left ideal of $A$ is a direct summand if and only if $A^H$ is regular and the invariance functor $(-)^H$ induces an equivalence of $A^H$-Mod to the Wisbauer category of $A$ as $A# H$-module. Analogously we show a similar statement for the biregularity of $A$ relative to $H$ where $A^H$ is replaced by $R=Z(A)\cap A^H$ using the module theory of $A$ as a module over $A\otimes A^{op} \bowtie H$ the envelopping Hopf algebroid of $A$ and $H$. We show that every two-sided $H$-stable ideal of $A$ is generated by a central $H$-invariant idempotent if and only if $R$ is regular and $A_m$ is $H$-simple for all maximal ideals $m$ of $R$. Further sufficient conditions are given for $A# H$ and $A^H$ to be regular.

When $δ$-semiperfect rings are semiperfect

Zhou defined $δ$-semiperfect rings as a proper generalization of semiperfect rings. The purpose of this paper is to discuss relative notions of supplemented modules and to show that the semiperfect rings are precisely the semilocal rings which are $δ$-supplemented. Module theoretic version of our results are obtained.

On a recent generalization of semiperfect rings

It follows from a recent paper by Ding and Wang that any ring which is generalized supplemented as left module over itself is semiperfect. The purpose of this note is to show that Ding and Wang's claim is not true and that the class of generalized supplemented rings lies properly between the class of semilocal and semiperfect rings. Moreover we rectify their claim by introducing a wider notion of local submodules.

Duality for partial group actions

Given a finite group G acting as automorphisms on a ring A, the skew group ring A*G is an important tool for studying the structure of G-stable ideals of A. The ring A*G is G-graded, i.e.G coacts on A*G. The Cohen-Montgomery duality says that the smash product A*G#k[G]^* of A*G with the dual group ring k[G]^* is isomorphic to the full matrix ring M_n(A) over A, where n is the order of G. In this note we show how much of the Cohen-Montgomery duality carries over to partial group actions in the sense of R.Exel. In particular we show that the smash product (A*_αG)#k[G]^* of the partial skew group ring A*_αG and k[G]^* is isomorphic to a direct product of the form K x eM_n(A)e where e is a certain idempotent of M_n(A) and K is a subalgebra of (A *_αG)#k[G]^*. Moreover A*_αG is shown to be isomorphic to a separable subalgebra of eM_n(A)e. We also look at duality for infinite partial group actions and for partial Hopf actions.

Rings whose modules are weakly supplemented are perfect

In this note we show that a ring R is left perfect if and only if every left R-module is weakly supplemented if and only if R is semilocal and the radical of the countably infinite free left R-module has a weak supplement.

Chain coalgebras and distributivity

We show that coalgebras whose lattice of right coideals is distributive are coproducts of coalgebras whose lattice of right coideals is a chain. Those chain coalgebras are characterized as finite duals of noetherian chain rings whose residue field is a finite dimensional division algebra over the base field. They also turn out to be coreflexive and infinite dimensional chain coalgebras turn out to be finite duals of left noetherian chain domains. Given any finite dimensional division algebra D and D-bimodule structure on D we construct a chain coalgebra as a cotensor coalgebra. Moreover if D is separable over the base field, every chain coalgebra of type D can be embedded in such a cotensor coalgebra. As a consequence cotensor coalgebras arising in this way are the only infinite dimensional chain coalgebras over perfect fields. Finite duals of power series rings with coeficients in a finite dimensional division algebra D are further examples of chain coalgebras, which also can be seen as the tensor product of D* and the divided power coalgebra and can be realized as the generalized path coalgebra of a loop. If D is central, any chain coalgebra is a subcoalgebra of the finite dual of D[[x]].

Covering coalgebras and dual non-singularity

Localisation is an important technique in ring theory and yields the construction of various rings of quotients. Colocalisation in comodule categories has been investigated by some authors where the colocalised coalgebra turned out to be a suitable subcoalgebra. Rather then aiming at a subcoalgebra we look at possible coalgebra covers p:D->>C that could play the role of a dual quotient object. Codense covers will dualise dense (or rational) extensions; a maximal codense cover construction for coalgebras with projective covers is proposed. We also look at a dual non-singularity concept for modules which turns out to be the comodule-theoretic property that turns the dual algebra of a coalgebra into a non-singular ring. As a corollary we deduce that hereditary coalgebras and hence path coalgebras are non-singular in the above sense. We also look at coprime coalgebras and Hopf algebras which are non-singular as coalgebras.

A central closure construction for certain extensions. Applications to Hopf algebra actions

Algebra extensions A < B where A is a left B-module such that the B-action extends the multiplication in A are ubiquitous. We encounter examples of such extensions in the study of group actions, group gradings or more general Hopf actions as well as in the study of the bimodule structure of an algebra. In this paper we are extending R.Wisbauer's method of constructing the central closure of a semiprime algebra using its multiplication algebra to those kinds of algebra extensions. More precisely if A is a k-algebra and B some subalgebra of End(A) that contains the multiplication algebra of A, then the self-injective hull \hat{A} of A as B-module becomes an k-algebra provided A does not contain any nilpotent B-stable ideals. We show that under certain assumptions \hat{A} can be identified with a subalgebra of the Martindale quotient ring of A. This construction is then applied to Hopf module algebras.

Integrals in Hopf algebras over rings

Integrals in Hopf algebras are an essential tool in studying finite dimensional Hopf algebras and their action on algebras. Over fields it has been shown by Sweedler that the existence of integrals in a Hopf algebra is equivalent to the Hopf algebra being finite dimensional. In this paper we examine how much of this is true for Hopf algebras over rings. We show that over any commutative ring R that is not a field there exists a Hopf algebra H over R containing a non-zero integral but not being finitely generated as R-module. On the contrary we show that Sweedler's equivalence is still valid for free Hopf algebras or projective Hopf algebras over integral domains. Analogously for a left H-module algebra A we study the influence of non-zero left A#H-linear maps from A to A#H on H being finitely generated as R-module. Examples and application to separability are given.

When is a smash product semiprime?

It is an open question whether the smash product of a semisimple Hopf algebra and a semiprime module algebra is semiprime. In this paper we show that the smash product of a commutative semiprime module algebra over a semisimple cosemisimple Hopf algebra is semiprime. In particular we show that the central $H$-invariant elements of the Martindale ring of quotients of a module algebra form a von Neumann regular and self-injective ring whenever $A$ is semiprime. For a semiprime Goldie PI $H$-module algebra $A$ with central invariants we show that $\AH$ is semiprime if and only if the $H$-action can be extended to the classical ring of quotients of $A$ if and only if every non-trivial $H$-stable ideal of $A$ contains a non-zero $H$-invariant element. In the last section we show that the class of strongly semisimple Hopf algebras is closed under taking Drinfeld twists. Applying some recent results of Etingof and Gelaki we conclude that every semisimple cosemisimple triangular Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field is strongly semisimple.
