Cyclotomic Points and Algebraic Properties of Polygon Diagonals

By viewing the regular $N$-gon as the set of $N$th roots of unity in the complex plane we transform several questions regarding polygon diagonals into when a polynomial vanishes when evaluated at roots of unity. To study these solutions we implement algorithms in Sage as well as examine a trigonometric diophantine equation. In doing so we classify when a metallic ratio can be realized as a ratio of polygon diagonals, answering a question raised in a PBS Infinite Series broadcast. We then generalize this idea by examining the degree of the number field generated by a given ratio of polygon diagonals.

There is a $3\times3$ Magic Square of Squares on the Moon - A Lot of Them, Actually

Magic squares have been well explored here on Earth [1], but there appears to have been little-to-no examination of $\textit{lunar}$ magic squares. Some kinds of magic squares exist on the moon (i.e. under lunar arithmetic) but not on Earth (i.e. under traditional arithmetic). Other types of magic squares are difficult to construct here on Earth but are plentiful in the lunar terrain. Examples of such are given here.

A Partial Residue Categorization of the Magic Square of Squares

It is unknown at present whether a magic square of squared integers exists. Such an object is defined to be a 3 by 3 grid of 9 distinct integer squares, such that the entries of each row, column, and two main diagonals sum to the same total. We give a categorization of the residue of the magic square of squares for primes dividing the central entry. The categorization leads to a magic square of square solution over a finite field and, lastly, some conjectures are made regarding the existence of certain residues.
