Time-periodic oscillating N\'eel walls in ferromagnetic thin films

This paper studies the existence, the structure and the spectral stability of time-periodic oscillating 180-degree N\'eel walls in ferromagnetic thin films. It is proved that time-periodic coherent structures do exist as solutions to the reduced model for the in-plane magnetization proposed by Capella, Melcher, and Otto (Nonlinearity 20 (2007), no. 11, 2519--2537) when a weak and $T$-periodic external magnetic field is applied in the direction of the easy axes of the film, perturbing in this fashion the well-known static 180-degree N\'{e}el wall. The linearization around this time-periodic N\'eel wall is constituted by a family of linear operators, parametrized by the time variable, which generates an evolution system of generators (or propagator) for the linear problem. Profiting from the stability of the static N\'eel wall, it is shown that the Floquet spectrum of the monodromy map for the propagator is contained in the complex unit circle, proving stability of the oscillating solution at least at a linear level.

Bubbling analysis of bimeron configurations

Chiral symmetry breaking in magnetic thin films stabilizes new families of topological solitons that are absent in conventional anisotropic ferromagnets. Beyond the classical chiral skyrmion, which arises in uniaxial systems through the Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction, dipolar configurations known as chiral bimerons emerge in easy--plane situations. On compact domains, these solitonic states appear as localized concentrations of energy embedded in an easy--plane background. The analysis, inspired by the Sacks--Uhlenbeck theory for approximate harmonic maps, combines blow--up methods with quantitative rigidity for the M\"obius group to describe the structure, scaling behaviour, and asymptotic limits of such magnetic solitons in both the conformal and large--domain regimes.

Simulation of the magnetic Ginzburg-Landau equation via vortex tracking

This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the 2D magnetic time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equations in the regime of small but finite (inverse) Ginzburg-Landau parameter $\epsilon$ and constant (order $1$ in $\epsilon$) applied magnetic field. In this regime, a well-known feature of the TDGL equation is the appearance of quantized vortices with core size of order $\epsilon$. Moreover, in the singular limit $\epsilon \searrow 0$, these vortices evolve according to an explicit ODE system. In this work, we first introduce a new numerical method for the numerical integration of this limiting ODE system, which requires to solve a linear second order PDE at each time step. We also provide a rigorous theoretical justification for this method that applies to a general class of 2D domains. We then develop and analyze a numerical strategy based on the finite-dimensional ODE system to efficiently simulate the infinite-dimensional TDGL equations in the presence of a constant external magnetic field and for small, but finite, $\epsilon$. This method allows us to avoid resolving the $\epsilon$-scale when solving the TDGL equations, where small values of $\epsilon$ typically require very fine meshes and time steps. We provide numerical examples on a few test cases and justify the accuracy of the method with numerical investigations. We end the paper showing that, in the mixed flow case, the limiting ODE system is able to capture the crystallization process in which, for large times, the vortices arrange into a stable pattern.

Saddle Point Configurations for Spherical Ferromagnets

We investigate saddle point configurations in spherical ferromagnets with perpendicular anisotropy. These are modeled by a micromagnetic energy functional on the unit sphere that leads to the emergence of the so-called curvature induced Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction. For this functional we establish the existence of two distinct types of saddle points with zero mapping degree. We use a parabolic flow approach inspired by the harmonic map heat flow where for certain highly symmetric initial conditions we can rule out finite and infinite time blowup. Hence, we obtain solutions of the underlying Euler--Lagrange equation in the long time limit. This is in contrast to harmonic maps between two-spheres, where every map is a local minimizer of the energy functional.

Well-posedness of half-harmonic map heat flows for rough initial data

We adopt the Koch-Tataru theory for the Navier-Stokes equations, based on Carleson measure estimates, to develop a scaling-critical low-regularity framework for half-harmonic map heat flows. This nonlocal variant of the harmonic map heat flow has been studied recently in connection with free boundary minimal surfaces. We introduce a new class of initial data for the flow, broader than the conventional energy or Sobolev spaces considered in previous work, for which we establish existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence. The class particularly includes homogeneous initial data that give rise to self-similar expanders.

Pathwise Solvability and Bubbling in 2D Stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert Equations

We investigate the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation on a periodic 2D domain, driven by infinite-dimensional Gaussian noise in a Sobolev class. We establish strong local well-posedness in the energy space and characterize blow-up at random times in terms of energy concentration at small scales (bubbling). By iteration, we construct pathwise global weak solutions, with energy evolving as a c{\`a}dl{\`a}g process, and prove uniqueness within this class. These results offer a stochastic counterpart to the deterministic concept of Struwe solutions. The approach relies on a transformation that leads to a magnetic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation with random gauge coefficients.

Stability of moving N\'eel walls in ferromagnetic thin films

This paper studies moving 180-degree N\'eel walls in ferromagnetic thin films under the reduced model for the in-plane magnetization proposed by Capella, Melcher and Otto [5], in the case when a sufficiently weak external magnetic field is applied. It is shown that the linearization around the moving N\'eel wall's phase determines a spectral problem that is a relatively bounded perturbation of the linearization around the static N\'eel wall, which is the solution when the external magnetic field is set to zero and which is spectrally stable. Uniform resolvent-type estimates for the linearized operator around the static wall are established in order to prove the spectral stability of the moving wall upon application of perturbation theory for linear operators. The spectral analysis is the basis to prove, in turn, both the decaying properties of the generated semigroup and the nonlinear stability of the moving N\'eel wall under small perturbations, in the case of a sufficiently weak external magnetic field. The stability of the static N\'eel wall, which was established in a companion paper [4], plays a key role to obtain the main result.

Numerical simulation of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation via vortex tracking

This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation, for which a well-known feature is the appearance of quantized vortices with core size of the order of a small parameter $\varepsilon$. Without a magnetic field and with suitable initial conditions, these vortices interact, in the singular limit $\varepsilon\to0$, through an explicit Hamiltonian dynamics. Using this analytical framework, we develop and analyze a numerical strategy based on the reduced-order Hamiltonian system to efficiently simulate the infinite-dimensional GP equation for small, but finite, $\varepsilon$. This method allows us to avoid numerical stability issues in solving the GP equation, where small values of $\varepsilon$ typically require very fine meshes and time steps. We also provide a mathematical justification of our method in terms of rigorous error estimates of the error in the supercurrent, together with numerical illustrations.

Well-posedness and stability for a class of fourth-order nonlinear parabolic equations

In this paper we examine well-posedness for a class of fourth-order nonlinear parabolic equation $\partial_t u + (-\Delta)^2 u = \nabla \cdot F(\nabla u)$, where $F$ satisfies a cubic growth conditions. We establish existence and uniqueness of the solution for small initial data in local BMO spaces. In the cubic case $F(\xi) = \pm \lvert \xi \rvert^2 \xi$ we also examine the large time behaivour and stability of global solutions for arbitrary and small initial data in VMO, respectively.

Stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equations for frustrated magnets under fluctuating currents

We examine a stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation for a frustrated ferromagnet with competing first and second order exchange interactions exposed to deterministic and random spin transfer torques in form of transport noise. We prove the existence and pathwise uniqueness of weak martingale solutions in the energy space. The result ensures the persistence of topological patterns, occurring in such magnetic systems, under the influence of a fluctuating spin current.

Chiral magnetic skyrmions across length scales

The profile and energy of chiral skyrmions, found in magnetic materials with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, can be approximated by formulae obtained through asymptotic analysis in the limits of small and large skyrmion radius. Using fitting techniques, we modify these formulae so that their validity extends to almost the entire range of skyrmion radii. Such formulae are obtained for skyrmions that are stabilised in the presence of an external field or easy-axis anisotropy or a combination of these. We further study the effect of the magnetostatic field on the skyrmion profile. We compare the profile of magnetic bubbles, stabilized without the chiral Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction to that of a chiral skyrmion.

Global weak solutions for the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Vlasov-Maxwell system coupled via emergent electromagnetic fields

Motivated by recent models of current driven magnetization dynamics, we examine the coupling of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation and classical electron transport governed by the Vlasov-Maxwell system. The interaction is based on space-time gyro-coupling in the form of emergent electromagnetic fields of quantized helicity that add up to the conventional Maxwell fields. We construct global weak solutions of the coupled system in the framework of frustrated magnets with competing first and second order gradient interactions known to host topological solitons such as magnetic skyrmions and hopfions.

Lattice solutions in a Ginzburg-Landau model for a chiral magnet

We examine micromagnetic pattern formation in chiral magnets, driven by the competition of Heisenberg exchange, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, easy-plane anisotropy and thermodynamic Landau potentials. Based on equivariant bifurcation theory we prove existence of lattice solutions branching off the zero magnetization state and investigate their stability. We observe in particular the stabilization of quadratic vortex-antivortex lattice configurations and instability of hexagonal skyrmion lattice configurations, and we illustrate our findings by numerical studies.

Chiral skyrmions of large radius

We study the structure of an axially symmetric magnetic skyrmion in a ferromagnet with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We examine the regime of large skyrmions and we identify rigorously the critical value of the dimensionless parameter at which the skyrmion radius diverges to infinity, while the skyrmion energy converges to zero. This critical value coincides with the expected transition point from the uniform phase, which accommodates the skyrmion as an excited state, to the helical phase, which has negative energy. We give the profile field at the skyrmion core, its outer field, and the intermediate field at the skyrmion domain wall. Moreover, we derive an explicit formula for the leading asymptotic behavior of the energy as well as the leading term and first asymptotic correction for the value of the critical parameter. The key leading to the results is a parity theorem that utilizes exact formulae for the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of the static Landau-Lifshitz equation centered at the skyrmion domain wall. The skyrmion energy is shown to be an odd function of the radius and the dimensionless parameter to be an even function.

The profile of chiral skyrmions of small radius

Chiral skyrmions are stable particle-like solutions of the Landau-Lifshitz equation for ferromagnets with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction, characterized by a topological number. We study the profile of an axially symmetric skyrmion and give exact formulas for the solution of the corresponding far-field and near-field equations, in the asymptotic limit of small DM parameter (alternatively large anisotropy). The matching of these two fields leads to a formula for the skyrmion radius as a function of the DM parameter. The derived solutions show the different length scales which are present in the skyrmion profiles. The picture is thus created of a chiral skyrmion that is born out of a Belavin-Polyakov solution with an infinitesimally small radius, as the DM parameter is increased from zero. The skyrmion retains the Belavin-Polyakov profile over and well-beyond the core before it assumes an exponential decay; the profile of an axially-symmetric Belavin-Polyakov solution of unit degree plays the role of the universal core profile of chiral skyrmions.

Curvature stabilized skyrmions with angular momentum

We examine skyrmionic field configurations on a spherical ferromagnet with large normal anisotropy. Exploiting variational concepts of angular momentum we find a new family of localized solutions to the Landau-Lifshitz equation that are topologically distinct from the ground state and not equivariant. Significantly, we observe an emergent spin-orbit coupling on the level of magnetization dynamics in a simple system without individual rotational invariance in spin and coordinate space.

Traveling domain walls in chiral ferromagnets

We show that chiral symmetry breaking enables traveling domain wall solution for the conservative Landau-Lifshitz equation of a uniaxial ferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. In contrast to related domain wall models including stray-field based anisotropy, traveling wave solutions are not found in closed form. For the construction we follow a topological approach and provide details of solutions by means of numerical calculations.
