Ballistic random walks in random environment at low disorder

We consider random walks in a random environment of the type p_0+γξ_z, where p_0 denotes the transition probabilities of a stationary random walk on \BbbZ^d, to nearest neighbors, and ξ_z is an i.i.d. random perturbation. We give an explicit expansion, for small γ, of the asymptotic speed of the random walk under the annealed law, up to order 2. As an application, we construct, in dimension d\ge2, a walk which goes faster than the stationary walk under the mean environment.

Electrical Networks, Symplectic Reductions, and Application to the Renormalization Map of Self-Similar Lattices

The first part of this paper deals with electrical networks and symplectic reductions. We consider two operations on electrical networks (the "trace map" and the "gluing map") and show that they correspond to symplectic reductions. We also give several general properties about symplectic reductions, in particular we study the singularities of symplectic reductions when considered as rational maps on Lagrangian Grassmannians. This is motivated by [23] where a renormalization map was introduced in order to describe the spectral properties of self-similar lattices. In this text, we show that this renormalization map can be expressed in terms of symplectic reductions and that some of its key properties are direct consequences of general properties of symplectic reductions (and the singularities of the symplectic reduction play an important role in relation with the spectral properties of our operator). We also present new examples where we can compute the renormalization map.

Spectral Analysis of a Self-Similar Sturm-Liouville Operator

In this text we describe the spectral nature (pure point or continuous) of a self-similar Sturm-Liouville operator on the line or the half-line. This is motivated by the more general problem of understanding the spectrum of Laplace operators on unbounded finitely ramified self-similar sets. In this context, this furnishes the first example of a description of the spectral nature of the operator in the case where the so-called "Neumann-Dirichlet" eigenfunctions are absent.

Spectral properties of self-similar lattices and iteration of rational maps

In this text we consider discrete Laplace operators defined on lattices based on finitely-ramified self-similar sets, and their continuous analogous defined on the self-similar sets themselves. We are interested in the spectral properties of these operators. The basic example is the lattice based on the Sierpinski gasket. We introduce a new renormalization map which appears to be a rational map defined on a smooth projective variety (more precisely, this variety is isomorphic to a product of three types of Grassmannians: complex Grassmannians, Lagrangian Grassmannians, orthogonal Grassmannians). We relate some characteristics of the dynamics of its iterates with some characteristics of the spectrum of our operator. More specifically, we give an explicit formula for the density of states in terms of the Green current of the map, and we relate the indeterminacy points of the map with the so-called Neuman-Dirichlet eigenvalues which lead to eigenfunctions with compact support on the unbounded lattice. Depending on the asymptotic degree of the map we can prove drastically different spectral properties of the operators. Our formalism is valid for the general class of finitely ramified self-similar sets (i.e. for the class of pcf self-similar sets of Kigami). Hence, this work aims at a generalization and a better understanding of the initial work of the physicists Rammal and Toulouse on the Sierpinski gasket.

Schrödinger operators on fractal lattices with random blow-ups

Starting from a finitely ramified self-similar set $X$ we can construct an unbounded set $X_{<\infty>}$ by blowing-up the initial set $X$. We consider random blow-ups and prove elementary properties of the spectrum of the natural Laplace operator on $X_{<\infty>}$ (and on the associated lattice). We prove that the spectral type of the operator is almost surely deterministic with the blow-up and that the spectrum coincides with the support of the density of states almost surely (actually our result is more precise). We also prove that if the density of states is completely created by the so-called Neuman-Dirichlet eigenvalues, then almost surely the spectrum is pure point with compactly supported eigenfunctions.
