Global Mean-Amplitude Enhanced Spiking Neural Network Coherent Ising Machine

The coherent Ising machine (CIM) is a quantum-inspired computing platform that leverages optical parametric oscillation dynamics to solve combinatorial optimization problems by searching for the ground state of an Ising Hamiltonian. Conventional CIM implementations face challenges in handling non-uniform coupling strengths and maintaining amplitude stability during computation. In this paper, a new global mean-amplitude feedback-enhanced spiking neural network CIM (GFSNN-CIM) is introduced with a physics-driven amplitude stabilization mechanism to dynamically balance nonlinear gain saturation and coupling effects. This modification enhances synchronization in the optical pulse network, leading to more robust convergence under varying interaction strengths. Experimental validation on Max-Cut problems demonstrates that the GFSNN-CIM achieves up to a 27% improvement in solution success rates compared to conventional spiking neural network CIM, with scalability improving as problem complexity increases. Further application to the traffic assignment problem (TAP) confirms the method's generality; the GFSNN-CIM achieves near-continuous accuracy (deviations < 0.035%) even at coarse discretization, while large-scale tests on Beijing's road network (481 spins) validate its real-world applicability. These advances establish a physics-consistent optimization framework, where optical pulse dynamics directly encode combinatorial problems, paving the way for scalable, high-performance CIM implementations in complex optimization tasks.

An LLM Agent-Based Complex Semantic Table Annotation Approach

The Semantic Table Annotation (STA) task, which includes Column Type Annotation (CTA) and Cell Entity Annotation (CEA), maps table contents to ontology entities and plays important roles in various semantic applications. However, complex tables often pose challenges such as semantic loss of column names or cell values, strict ontological hierarchy requirements, homonyms, spelling errors, and abbreviations, which hinder annotation accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes an LLM-based agent approach for CTA and CEA. We design and implement five external tools with tailored prompts based on the ReAct framework, enabling the STA agent to dynamically select suitable annotation strategies depending on table characteristics. Experiments are conducted on the Tough Tables and BiodivTab datasets from the SemTab challenge, which contain the aforementioned challenges. Our method outperforms existing approaches across various metrics. Furthermore, by leveraging Levenshtein distance to reduce redundant annotations, we achieve a 70% reduction in time costs and a 60% reduction in LLM token usage, providing an efficient and cost-effective solution for STA.

High-sensitivity Optical Microcavity Acoustic Sensor Covering Free Spectral Range

Optical whispering gallery mode microcavity acoustic sensors have emerged significant potential in high-sensitivity acoustic signal detection, but the narrow dynamic range limits the application prospect. To address the challenge, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a high-sensitivity acoustic sensor in optical whispering gallery mode microcavity. The proposed sensor integrates an extended Mach-Zehnder polarization interferometer with postselection, extending the dynamic range to the free spectral range. The sensing regions can be categorized into phase-drastic and phase-enhanced regions, both of which yield an optimal acoustic response that surpasses traditional transmission method. Experiment results demonstrate improvements of 57.87 dB in detection sensitivity and 26 times in minimal detectable acoustic pressure over the transmission method. Moreover, the application of coherent state and heterodyne detection can enhance response amplitude, further improving the detection sensitivity. Given the wide application range for acoustic dispersion and dissipation response, as well as the performance advantages of high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, the proposed WGM sensor offers a promising solution for acoustic sensing. Potentially, the structural design may be adaptable to other application scenarios involving time-varying signals through optical microcavity sensing.

KwaiChat: A Large-Scale Video-Driven Multilingual Mixed-Type Dialogue Corpus

Video-based dialogue systems, such as education assistants, have compelling application value, thereby garnering growing interest. However, the current video-based dialogue systems are limited by their reliance on a single dialogue type, which hinders their versatility in practical applications across a range of scenarios, including question-answering, emotional dialog, etc. In this paper, we identify this challenge as how to generate video-driven multilingual mixed-type dialogues. To mitigate this challenge, we propose a novel task and create a human-to-human video-driven multilingual mixed-type dialogue corpus, termed KwaiChat, containing a total of 93,209 videos and 246,080 dialogues, across 4 dialogue types, 30 domains, 4 languages, and 13 topics. Additionally, we establish baseline models on KwaiChat. An extensive analysis of 7 distinct LLMs on KwaiChat reveals that GPT-4o achieves the best performance but still cannot perform well in this situation even with the help of in-context learning and fine-tuning, which indicates that the task is not trivial and needs further research.

Hamiltonian Dynamics Learning: A Scalable Approach to Quantum Process Characterization

Quantum process characterization is a fundamental task in quantum information processing, yet conventional methods, such as quantum process tomography, require prohibitive resources and lack scalability. Here, we introduce an efficient quantum process learning method specifically designed for short-time Hamiltonian dynamics. Our approach reconstructs an equivalent quantum circuit representation from measurement data of unknown Hamiltonian evolution without requiring additional assumptions and achieves polynomial sample and computational efficiency. Our results have broad applications in various directions. We demonstrate applications in quantum machine learning, where our protocol enables efficient training of variational quantum neural networks by directly learning unitary transformations. Additionally, it facilitates the prediction of quantum expectation values with provable efficiency and provides a robust framework for verifying quantum computations and benchmarking realistic noisy quantum hardware. This work establishes a new theoretical foundation for practical quantum dynamics learning, paving the way for scalable quantum process characterization in both near-term and fault-tolerant quantum computing.

A production planning benchmark for real-world refinery-petrochemical complexes

To achieve digital intelligence transformation and carbon neutrality, effective production planning is crucial for integrated refinery-petrochemical complexes. Modern refinery planning relies on advanced optimization techniques, whose development requires reproducible benchmark problems. However, existing benchmarks lack practical context or impose oversimplified assumptions, limiting their applicability to enterprise-wide optimization. To bridge the substantial gap between theoretical research and industrial applications, this paper introduces the first open-source, demand-driven benchmark for industrial-scale refinery-petrochemical complexes with transparent model formulations and comprehensive input parameters. The benchmark incorporates a novel port-stream hybrid superstructure for modular modeling and broad generalizability. Key secondary processing units are represented using the delta-base approach grounded in historical data. Three real-world cases have been constructed to encompass distinct scenario characteristics, respectively addressing (1) a stand-alone refinery without integer variables, (2) chemical site integration with inventory-related integer variables, and (3) multi-period planning. All model parameters are fully accessible. Additionally, this paper provides an analysis of computational performance, ablation experiments on delta-base modeling, and application scenarios for the proposed benchmark.

Multi-Objective Routing Optimization Using Coherent Ising Machine in Wireless Multihop Networks

Multi-objective combinatorial optimization in wireless communication networks is a challenging task, particularly for large-scale and diverse topologies. Recent advances in quantum computing offer promising solutions for such problems. Coherent Ising Machines (CIM), a quantum-inspired algorithm, leverages the quantum properties of coherent light, enabling faster convergence to the ground state. This paper applies CIM to multi-objective routing optimization in wireless multi-hop networks. We formulate the routing problem as a Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (QUBO) problem and map it onto an Ising model, allowing CIM to solve it. CIM demonstrates strong scalability across diverse network topologies without requiring topology-specific adjustments, overcoming the limitations of traditional quantum algorithms like Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) and Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE). Our results show that CIM provides feasible and near-optimal solutions for networks containing hundreds of nodes and thousands of edges. Additionally, a complexity analysis highlights CIM's increasing efficiency as network size grows

STAMPsy: Towards SpatioTemporal-Aware Mixed-Type Dialogues for Psychological Counseling

Online psychological counseling dialogue systems are trending, offering a convenient and accessible alternative to traditional in-person therapy. However, existing psychological counseling dialogue systems mainly focus on basic empathetic dialogue or QA with minimal professional knowledge and without goal guidance. In many real-world counseling scenarios, clients often seek multi-type help, such as diagnosis, consultation, therapy, console, and common questions, but existing dialogue systems struggle to combine different dialogue types naturally. In this paper, we identify this challenge as how to construct mixed-type dialogue systems for psychological counseling that enable clients to clarify their goals before proceeding with counseling. To mitigate the challenge, we collect a mixed-type counseling dialogues corpus termed STAMPsy, covering five dialogue types, task-oriented dialogue for diagnosis, knowledge-grounded dialogue, conversational recommendation, empathetic dialogue, and question answering, over 5,000 conversations. Moreover, spatiotemporal-aware knowledge enables systems to have world awareness and has been proven to affect one's mental health. Therefore, we link dialogues in STAMPsy to spatiotemporal state and propose a spatiotemporal-aware mixed-type psychological counseling dataset. Additionally, we build baselines on STAMPsy and develop an iterative self-feedback psychological dialogue generation framework, named Self-STAMPsy. Results indicate that clarifying dialogue goals in advance and utilizing spatiotemporal states are effective.

3D E-textile for Exercise Physiology and Clinical Maternal Health Monitoring

Electronic textiles (E-textiles) offer great wearing comfort and unobtrusiveness, thus holding potential for next-generation health monitoring wearables. However, the practical implementation is hampered by challenges associated with poor signal quality, substantial motion artifacts, durability for long-term usage, and non-ideal user experience. Here, we report a cost-effective E-textile system that features 3D microfiber-based electrodes for greatly increasing the surface area. The soft and fluffy conductive microfibers disperse freely and securely adhere to the skin, achieving a low impedance at the electrode-skin interface even in the absence of gel. A superhydrophobic fluorinated self-assembled monolayer was deposited on the E-textile surface to render it waterproof while retaining the electrical conductivity. Equipped with a custom-designed motion-artifact canceling wireless data recording circuit, the E-textile system could be integrated into a variety of smart garments for exercise physiology and health monitoring applications. Real-time multimodal electrophysiological signal monitoring, including electrocardiogram (ECG) and electromyography (EMG), was successfully carried out during strenuous cycling and even underwater swimming activities. Furthermore, a multi-channel E-textile was developed and implemented in clinical patient studies for simultaneous real-time monitoring of maternal ECG and uterine EMG signals, incorporating spatial-temporal potential mapping capabilities.

2M-NER: Contrastive Learning for Multilingual and Multimodal NER with Language and Modal Fusion

Named entity recognition (NER) is a fundamental task in natural language processing that involves identifying and classifying entities in sentences into pre-defined types. It plays a crucial role in various research fields, including entity linking, question answering, and online product recommendation. Recent studies have shown that incorporating multilingual and multimodal datasets can enhance the effectiveness of NER. This is due to language transfer learning and the presence of shared implicit features across different modalities. However, the lack of a dataset that combines multilingualism and multimodality has hindered research exploring the combination of these two aspects, as multimodality can help NER in multiple languages simultaneously. In this paper, we aim to address a more challenging task: multilingual and multimodal named entity recognition (MMNER), considering its potential value and influence. Specifically, we construct a large-scale MMNER dataset with four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) and two modalities (text and image). To tackle this challenging MMNER task on the dataset, we introduce a new model called 2M-NER, which aligns the text and image representations using contrastive learning and integrates a multimodal collaboration module to effectively depict the interactions between the two modalities. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves the highest F1 score in multilingual and multimodal NER tasks compared to some comparative and representative baselines. Additionally, in a challenging analysis, we discovered that sentence-level alignment interferes a lot with NER models, indicating the higher level of difficulty in our dataset.

SwG-former: A Sliding-Window Graph Convolutional Network for Simultaneous Spatial-Temporal Information Extraction in Sound Event Localization and Detection

Sound event localization and detection (SELD) involves sound event detection (SED) and direction of arrival (DoA) estimation tasks. SED mainly relies on temporal dependencies to distinguish different sound classes, while DoA estimation depends on spatial correlations to estimate source directions. This paper addresses the need to simultaneously extract spatial-temporal information in audio signals to improve SELD performance. A novel block, the sliding-window graph-former (SwG-former), is designed to learn temporal context information of sound events based on their spatial correlations. The SwG-former block transforms audio signals into a graph representation and constructs graph vertices to capture higher abstraction levels for spatial correlations. It uses different-sized sliding windows to adapt various sound event durations and aggregates temporal features with similar spatial information while incorporating multi-head self-attention (MHSA) to model global information. Furthermore, as the cornerstone of message passing, a robust Conv2dAgg function is proposed and embedded into the block to aggregate the features of neighbor vertices. As a result, a SwG-former model, which stacks the SwG-former blocks, demonstrates superior performance compared to recent advanced SELD models. The SwG-former block is also integrated into the event-independent network version 2 (EINV2), called SwG-EINV2, which surpasses the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods under the same acoustic environment.

One-way Valley-locked waveguide with large channel achieved by all-dielectric Photonic Crystals

Nonreciprocity, which denotes the asymmetric or even unidirectional transmission of light, constitutes the cornerstone of modern photonic circuits. In the realm of photonic devices, it has been widely utilized in isolators, circulators and so on. Recent topology in artificial materials, an unprecedented degree of freedom, has been proposed to solve the effect of impurities on nonreciprocal transmission. However, in view of the bulk-edge correspondence, the spatial width of the transmission channel with uniform field distribution is quite narrow and needs further exploration. In this paper, we proposed a one-way valley-locked waveguide with a large channel in an all-dielectric photonic crystal. Quite different from the topological edge modes, the unidirectional property of our waveguide comes from the bulk modes with valley-lock, which can fully utilize the whole dimension of the structure with an efficiency of 100%. Additionally, the electrical field is uniformly distributed across the entire channel, which opens a new avenue for low-loss nonreciprocity devices.

Application of Zone Method based Physics-Informed Neural Networks in Reheating Furnaces

Foundation Industries (FIs) constitute glass, metals, cement, ceramics, bulk chemicals, paper, steel, etc. and provide crucial, foundational materials for a diverse set of economically relevant industries: automobiles, machinery, construction, household appliances, chemicals, etc. Reheating furnaces within the manufacturing chain of FIs are energy-intensive. Accurate and real-time prediction of underlying temperatures in reheating furnaces has the potential to reduce the overall heating time, thereby controlling the energy consumption for achieving the Net-Zero goals in FIs. In this paper, we cast this prediction as a regression task and explore neural networks due to their inherent capability of being effective and efficient, given adequate data. However, due to the infeasibility of achieving good-quality real data in scenarios like reheating furnaces, classical Hottel's zone method based computational model has been used to generate data for model training. To further enhance the Out-Of-Distribution generalization capability of the trained model, we propose a Physics-Informed Neural Network (PINN) by incorporating prior physical knowledge using a set of novel Energy-Balance regularizers.

Combinatorial optimization solving by coherent Ising machines based on spiking neural networks

Spiking neural network is a kind of neuromorphic computing that is believed to improve the level of intelligence and provide advantages for quantum computing. In this work, we address this issue by designing an optical spiking neural network and find that it can be used to accelerate the speed of computation, especially on combinatorial optimization problems. Here the spiking neural network is constructed by the antisymmetrically coupled degenerate optical parametric oscillator pulses and dissipative pulses. A nonlinear transfer function is chosen to mitigate amplitude inhomogeneities and destabilize the resulting local minima according to the dynamical behavior of spiking neurons. It is numerically shown that the spiking neural network-coherent Ising machines have excellent performance on combinatorial optimization problems, which is expected to offer new applications for neural computing and optical computing.

MEFLUT: Unsupervised 1D Lookup Tables for Multi-exposure Image Fusion

In this paper, we introduce a new approach for high-quality multi-exposure image fusion (MEF). We show that the fusion weights of an exposure can be encoded into a 1D lookup table (LUT), which takes pixel intensity value as input and produces fusion weight as output. We learn one 1D LUT for each exposure, then all the pixels from different exposures can query 1D LUT of that exposure independently for high-quality and efficient fusion. Specifically, to learn these 1D LUTs, we involve attention mechanism in various dimensions including frame, channel and spatial ones into the MEF task so as to bring us significant quality improvement over the state-of-the-art (SOTA). In addition, we collect a new MEF dataset consisting of 960 samples, 155 of which are manually tuned by professionals as ground-truth for evaluation. Our network is trained by this dataset in an unsupervised manner. Extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of all the newly proposed components, and results show that our approach outperforms the SOTA in our and another representative dataset SICE, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Moreover, our 1D LUT approach takes less than 4ms to run a 4K image on a PC GPU. Given its high quality, efficiency and robustness, our method has been shipped into millions of Android mobiles across multiple brands world-wide. LSGNN: Towards General Graph Neural Network in Node Classification by Local Similarity

Heterophily has been considered as an issue that hurts the performance of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). To address this issue, some existing work uses a graph-level weighted fusion of the information of multi-hop neighbors to include more nodes with homophily. However, the heterophily might differ among nodes, which requires to consider the local topology. Motivated by it, we propose to use the local similarity (LocalSim) to learn node-level weighted fusion, which can also serve as a plug-and-play module. For better fusion, we propose a novel and efficient Initial Residual Difference Connection (IRDC) to extract more informative multi-hop information. Moreover, we provide theoretical analysis on the effectiveness of LocalSim representing node homophily on synthetic graphs. Extensive evaluations over real benchmark datasets show that our proposed method, namely Local Similarity Graph Neural Network (LSGNN), can offer comparable or superior state-of-the-art performance on both homophilic and heterophilic graphs. Meanwhile, the plug-and-play model can significantly boost the performance of existing GNNs. Our code is provided at https://github.com/draym28/LSGNN.

The nanoscale imaging of the bulk polycrystalline material with the effects of depth of field and field of view based on x-ray free electron laser

Microscale imaging of mesoscale bulk materials under dynamic compression is important for understanding their properties. In this work, we study the effects of the depth of field (DoF) and field of view (FoV) of the optical lens and extract the scattered light of the region to be imaged within the bulk polycrystalline material based on the objective Bragg coherent diffraction imaging. We describe how the DoF and FoV quantitatively limit the diffraction volume, where the DoF and FoV limit the scattering region parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the light source respectively. We demonstrate this scheme by simulating the separate imaging of a submicron-sized crack region within a few μm-sized Si bulk material, and obtain a high imaging quality. This scheme enables imaging of selected regions within bulk polycrystalline materials with the resolution up to the order of 10 nm.

MidMed: Towards Mixed-Type Dialogues for Medical Consultation

Most medical dialogue systems assume that patients have clear goals (medicine querying, surgical operation querying, etc.) before medical consultation. However, in many real scenarios, due to the lack of medical knowledge, it is usually difficult for patients to determine clear goals with all necessary slots. In this paper, we identify this challenge as how to construct medical consultation dialogue systems to help patients clarify their goals. To mitigate this challenge, we propose a novel task and create a human-to-human mixed-type medical consultation dialogue corpus, termed MidMed, covering five dialogue types: task-oriented dialogue for diagnosis, recommendation, knowledge-grounded dialogue, QA, and chitchat. MidMed covers four departments (otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, skin, and digestive system), with 8,175 dialogues. Furthermore, we build baselines on MidMed and propose an instruction-guiding medical dialogue generation framework, termed InsMed, to address this task. Experimental results show the effectiveness of InsMed.
