Fierz-complete four-quark interactions and the QCD phase diagram

The dynamics of Fierz-complete four-quark interactions and its influence on the QCD phase diagram have been investigated within the functional renormalization group approach to QCD at finite temperature and densities. It is found that in the vacuum the pion and sigma channels play the overwhelmingly dominant role, and all the other channels are negligible. However, when it is near the critical end point (CEP), the magnitude of four-quark couplings in other channels increases sizably and they become more and more important. In comparison to the single scalar-pseudoscalar channel of four-quark interactions, the dynamics of Fierz-complete four-quark interactions increases a bit the curvature of the phase boundary, and moves the CEP to location of larger baryon chemical potential and smaller temperature.

Pion Distribution Amplitudes from Functional QCD

We present the first functional QCD calculation of the pion distribution amplitude (DA) using the large-momentum effective theory within the functional renormalisation group (fRG) approach. With only the strong coupling and current quark masses as inputs, we compute the quasi-DA from first-principles QCD correlation functions. By pushing the pion momentum up to $P_z = 4.5\ \mathrm{GeV}$, the quasi-DA becomes fully saturated, rendering the extrapolation errors to the light-cone limit negligible. The resulting second-order moment $\langle \xi^2 \rangle_\pi = 0.267$ is significantly smaller than existing lattice-LaMET determinations and lies in a range consistent with other nonperturbative approaches.

Kaon Distribution Amplitudes from Euclidean Functional QCD

We study the kaon quasi-distribution amplitude (quasi-DA) and distribution amplitude (DA) within the large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) combined with the first-principles functional QCD. Using quark correlation functions and the kaon Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in the Euclidean space from the 2+1 flavour functional QCD [1] as inputs, we obtain the kaon quasi DA in the large longitudinal momentum region with the contour deformation method [2] in the complex plane of momentum. By performing $1/P_z^2$ and $1/P_z^4$ order extrapolations of the kaon quasi-DA for the choices of the maximal longitudinal momentum $P_z^{\max}\in[2,2.5]$ GeV, we obtain a single-peaked and asymmetric kaon DA with the uncertainties arising from the extrapolation interval and ansatz. We find the first and second order moments of the kaon DA, $\langle \xi \rangle_K = 0.020(3)$ and $\langle \xi^2 \rangle_K = 0.253(12)$, respectively.

Strangeness neutrality and the QCD phase diagram

We map out the phase structure of $N_f=2+1$ flavour QCD at strangeness neutrality with functional QCD. We find a critical end point at $(T_{\rm CEP},\mu_{B,{\rm CEP}})|_{n_S=0} = (92, 696)$\,MeV. The computation is done with the functional renormalisation group, and we systematically improve on previous works, hence reducing the systematic error significantly. Our results pass relevant QCD benchmarks: they agree well with and corroborate the QCD phase structure from functional QCD results at vanishing strangeness chemical potential. Moreover, they agree well with lattice QCD results at vanishing chemical potential. Specifically, the ratio of the second order curvature coefficient $\kappa_2$ agrees with that obtained from lattice computations, $\kappa_2(n_S=0)/\kappa_2(\mu_S=0)=0.897(20)$.

Real-time evolution of critical modes in the QCD phase diagram

A QCD-assisted relaxation dynamic model for the critical mode of the critical end point (CEP) in the QCD phase diagram is developed, which allows us to investigate the critical slowing down effect quantitatively in the QCD phase diagram, especially in the proximity of the CEP, without any phenomenological parameters. The relaxation time from nonequilibrium to equilibrium in the QCD phase diagram is extracted from the Langevin simulations of the QCD-assisted relaxation dynamic model. It is found that in a narrow region along the phase boundary radiated from the CEP, the relaxation time is enhanced significantly. Outside this narrow region, the relaxation time drops drastically, which implies that the dynamic critical region is small in the QCD phase diagram. We also find that the effects of critical slowing down are mild on the chemical freeze-out curves.

Vidi2.5: Large Multimodal Models for Video Understanding and Creation

Video has emerged as the primary medium for communication and creativity on the Internet, driving strong demand for scalable, high-quality video production. Vidi models continue to evolve toward next-generation video creation and have achieved state-of-the-art performance in multimodal temporal retrieval (TR). In its second release, Vidi2 advances video understanding with fine-grained spatio-temporal grounding (STG) and extends its capability to video question answering (Video QA), enabling comprehensive multimodal reasoning. Given a text query, Vidi2 can identify not only the corresponding timestamps but also the bounding boxes of target objects within the output time ranges. To enable comprehensive evaluation of STG, we introduce a new benchmark, VUE-STG, which offers critical improvements over existing STG datasets. In addition, we upgrade the previous VUE-TR benchmark to VUE-TR-V2, achieving a more balanced duration and query distribution. Remarkably, the Vidi2 model substantially outperforms leading proprietary systems, such as Gemini 3 Pro Preview and GPT-5, on both VUE-TR-V2 and VUE-STG, while achieving competitive results with popular open-source models with similar scale on video QA benchmarks. The latest Vidi2.5 offers significantly stronger STG capability and slightly better TR and Video QA performance over Vidi2. This update also introduces a Vidi2.5-Think model to handle plot understanding with complex plot reasoning. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of plot understanding, we propose VUE-PLOT benchmark with two tracks, Character and Reasoning. Notably, Vidi2.5-Think outperforms Gemini 3 Pro Preview on fine-grained character understanding with comparable performance on complex plot reasoning. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of Vidi2.5 on a challenging real-world application, video editing planning.

Functional renormalization group study of anomalous magnetic moment in a low energy effective theory

The quark anomalous magnetic moments (AMMs) are investigated in a 2-flavor low-energy effective theory within the functional renormalization group (FRG) approach under an external magnetic field. The Schwinger formalism is adopted for quark propagators, and Fierz-complete four-quark scatterings are self-consistently included through the renormalization group flows. We find that the quark AMMs are dynamically generated with the chiral symmetry breaking, and the magnitude of the AMM of the down quark is around 4 times larger than that of the up quark. The transverse AMMs and the longitudinal d-quark AMM monotonically decrease with the magnetic field strength, while the longitudinal u-quark AMM slightly increases with the magnetic field strength. At $B=0$, the magnetic moments of proton and neutron are computed using the constituent quark model, which are close to the experimental values.

Quasi parton distributions of pions at large longitudinal momentum

In this paper, we develop an approach to calculate the valence-quark quasi parton distribution amplitude (quasi-PDA) and quasi parton distribution function (quasi-PDF) for the pion with a large longitudinal momentum with the functional renormalization group (fRG). This is demonstrated in a low energy effective theory (LEFT) with four-quark scatterings. In the study of the complex structure of quasi-PDA, we introduce a deformed integration contour in the calculations of quasi-PDA or quasi-PDF, which allows us to obtain correct integrals for all momentum fractions. It is found that the pion light-front PDA extrapolated from quasi-PDA based on the large momentum effective theory (LaMET) in the LEFT is comparable with lattice QCD and Dyson-Schwinger equation. This work paves the way to study the PDA and PDF within the fRG approach to first-principles QCD.

Four-quark scatterings in QCD III

We study the full infrared dynamics of 2+1 flavour QCD with the functional renormalisation group approach. We resolve self-consistently the glue dynamics as well as the dynamics of chiral symmetry breaking. The computation hosts no phenomenological parameter or external input. The only ultraviolet input parameters are the physical ones in QCD: the light and strange quark masses. They are adjusted to the physical ratios of the pion and kaon masses, divided by the pion decay constant. The results for other observables of current first-principles computations are in quantitative agreement with the physical ones. This work completes the series of papers, initiated and furthered in [1,2], on dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and the emergence of mesonic bound states within the functional renormalisation group. As a first application we discuss the formation of light mesonic bound states. Amongst other applications such as the phase structure of QCD, the current work paves the way for studying QCD parton distribution functions within the functional renormalisation group approach to first-principles QCD.

Four-quark scatterings in QCD II

In [1], we initiated a program for the quantitative investigation of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and resonant bound states in QCD with the functional renormalisation group, concentrating on the full infrared dynamics of four-quark scatterings. In the present work we extend this study and take into account a three-momentum channel approximation ($s,t,u$-channel) for the Fierz-complete four-quark vertices. We find that the four-quark vertex in this approximation is quantitatively reliable. In particular, we have computed the pion pole mass, pion decay constant, Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, the quark mass function and wave function. Our results confirm previous findings that low energy effective theories only reproduce QCD quantitatively, if initiated with a relatively low ultraviolet cutoff scale of the order of 500 MeV. The quantitative description set up here paves the way for reliable quantitative access to the resonance structure in QCD within the fRG approach to QCD.

Soft modes in hot QCD matter

The chiral crossover of QCD at finite temperature and vanishing baryon density turns into a second order phase transition if lighter than physical quark masses are considered. If this transition occurs sufficiently close to the physical point, its universal critical behaviour would largely control the physics of the QCD phase transition. We quantify the size of this region in QCD using functional approaches, both Dyson-Schwinger equations and the functional renormalisation group. The latter allows us to study both critical and non-critical effects on equal footing, facilitating a precise determination of the scaling regime. We find that the physical point is far away from the critical region. Importantly, we show that the physics of the chiral crossover is dominated by soft modes even far beyond the critical region. While scaling functions determine all thermodynamic properties of the system in the critical region, the order parameter potential is the relevant quantity away from it. We compute this potential in QCD using the functional renormalisation group and Dyson-Schwinger equations and provide a simple parametrisation for phenomenological applications.

Real-time frequency measurement based on parallel pipeline FFT for time-stretched acquisition system

Real-time frequency measurement for non-repetitive and statistically rare signals are challenging problems in the electronic measurement area, which places high demands on the bandwidth, sampling rate, data processing and transmission capabilities of the measurement system. The time-stretching sampling system overcomes the bandwidth limitation and sampling rate limitation of electronic digitizers, allowing continuous ultra-high-speed acquisition at refresh rates of billions of frames per second. However, processing the high sampling rate signals of hundreds of GHz is an extremely challenging task, which becomes the bottleneck of the real-time analysis for non-stationary signals. In this work, a real-time frequency measurement system is designed based on a parallel pipelined FFT structure. Tens of FFT channels are pipelined to process the incoming high sampling rate signals in sequence, and a simplified parabola fitting algorithm is implemented in the FFT channel to improve the frequency precision. The frequency results of these FFT channels are reorganized and finally uploaded to an industrial personal computer for visualization and offline data mining. A real-time transmission datapath is designed to provide a high throughput rate transmission, ensuring the frequency results are uploaded without interruption. Several experiments are performed to evaluate the designed real-time frequency measurement system, the input signal has a bandwidth of 4 GHz, and the repetition rate of frames is 22 MHz. Experimental results show that the frequency of the signal can be measured at a high sampling rate of 20 GSPS, and the frequency precision is better than 1 MHz.

Renormalised spectral flows

We derive renormalised finite functional flow equations for quantum field theories in real and imaginary time that incorporate scale transformations of the renormalisation conditions, hence implementing a flowing renormalisation. The flows are manifestly finite in general non-perturbative truncation schemes also for regularisation schemes that do not implement an infrared suppression of the loops in the flow. Specifically, this formulation includes finite functional flows for the effective action with a spectral Callan-Symanzik cutoff, and therefore gives access to Lorentz invariant spectral flows. The functional setup is fully non-perturbative and allows for the spectral treatment of general theories. In particular, this includes theories that do not admit a perturbative renormalisation such as asymptotically safe theories. Finally, the application of the Lorentz invariant spectral functional renormalisation group is briefly discussed for theories ranging from real scalar and Yukawa theories to gauge theories and quantum gravity.

Criticality of the $O(N)$ universality via global solutions to nonperturbative fixed-point equations

Fixed-point equations in the functional renormalization group approach are integrated from large to vanishing field, where an asymptotic potential in the limit of large field is implemented as initial conditions. This approach allows us to obtain a global fixed-point potential with high numerical accuracy, that incorporates the correct asymptotic behavior in the limit of large field. Our calculated global potential is in good agreement with the Taylor expansion in the region of small field, and it also coincides with the Laurent expansion in the regime of large field. Laurent expansion of the potential in the limit of large field for general case, that the spatial dimension $d$ is a continuous variable in the range $2\leq d \leq 4$, is obtained. Eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of perturbations near the Wilson-Fisher fixed point are computed with the method of eigenperturbations. Critical exponents for different values of $d$ and $N$ of the $O(N)$ universality class are calculated.

Reconstruction of baryon number distributions

The maximum entropy method (MEM) and the Gaussian process (GP) regression, which are both well-suited for the treatment of inverse problems, are used to reconstruct net-baryon number distributions based on a finite number of cumulants of the distribution. Baryon number distributions across the chiral phase transition are reconstructed. It is found that with the increase of the order of cumulants, distribution in the long tails, i.e., far away from the central number, would become more and more important. We also reconstruct the distribution function based on the experimentally measured cumulants at the collision energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=7.7$ GeV. Given the sizable error of the fourth-order cumulant measured in experiments, the calculation of MEM shows that with the increasing fourth-order cumulant, there is another peak in the distribution function developed in the region of large baryon number. This unnaturalness observed in the reconstructed distribution function might in turn be used to constrain the cumulants measured in experiments.

Four-quark scatterings in QCD I

We investigate dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and the emergence of mesonic bound states from the infrared dynamics of four-quark scatterings. Both phenomena originate from the resonant scalar-pseudoscalar channel of the four-quark scatterings, and we compute the functional renormalisation group (fRG) flows of the Fierz-complete four-quark interaction of up and down quarks with its $t$ channel momentum dependence. This is done in the isospin symmetric case, also including the flow of the quark two-point function. This system can be understood as the fRG analogues of the complete Bethe-Salpeter equations and quark gap equation. The pole mass of the pion is determined from both direct calculations of the four-quark flows in the Minkowski regime of momenta and the analytic continuation based on results in the Euclidean regime, which are consistent with each other.

Baryon number fluctuations in the 2+1 flavor low energy effective model

High order cumulants of the baryon number distribution are calculated in a 2+1 flavor low energy effective model. Quantum fluctuations are encoded through the functional renormalization group approach. The chiral and deconfinement phase transitions are investigated at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential. The equation of state for the QCD matter, fluctuations of the baryon number and the strangeness up to sixth order are calculated, and one finds the results are consistent with those from lattice QCD.
