MiLAC-Aided Beamforming for MIMO Over-the-Air Computation

Over-the-air computation (AirComp) enables low-latency wireless data aggregation, but its accuracy is limited by imperfect signal alignment over fading channels and receiver noise. Fully digital beamforming improves aggregation accuracy in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) AirComp systems but requires one radio-frequency (RF) chain per antenna. To reduce this hardware burden, we investigate microwave linear analog computer (MiLAC)-aided beamforming for MIMO AirComp. Under a lossless and reciprocal MiLAC model, we jointly optimize the transmit digital precoding matrices and the receive-side MiLAC aggregation matrix to minimize the mean squared error (MSE). An alternating optimization algorithm is developed, in which the precoding matrices are optimally updated using the Karush--Kuhn--Tucker conditions and bisection, while the resulting convex aggregation matrix subproblem is solved globally using projected gradient descent. Numerical results verify the algorithm's convergence and demonstrate that MiLAC-aided beamforming approaches the MSE performance of fully digital beamforming with substantially fewer RF chains and outperforms phase-shifter-based hybrid beamforming under the same RF-chain budget.

IM-GIV: an effective integrity monitoring scheme for tightly-coupled GNSS/INS/Vision integration based on factor graph optimization

Global Navigation Satellite System/Inertial Navigation System (GNSS/INS)/Vision integration based on factor graph optimization (FGO) has recently attracted extensive attention in navigation and robotics community. Integrity monitoring (IM) capability is required when FGO-based integrated navigation system is used for safety-critical applications. However, traditional researches on IM of integrated navigation system are mostly based on Kalman filter. It is urgent to develop effective IM scheme for FGO-based GNSS/INS/Vision integration. In this contribution, the position error bounding formula to ensure the integrity of the GNSS/INS/Vision integration based on FGO is designed and validated for the first time. It can be calculated by the linearized equations from the residuals of GNSS pseudo-range, IMU pre-integration and visual measurements. The specific position error bounding is given in the case of GNSS, INS and visual measurement faults. Field experiments were conducted to evaluate and validate the performance of the proposed position error bounding. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed position error bounding for the GNSS/INS/Vision integration based on FGO can correctly fit the position error against different fault modes, and the availability of integrity in six fault modes is 100% after correct and timely fault exclusion.

Designing Enhanced Multi-dimensional Constellations for Code-Domain NOMA

This paper presents an enhanced design of multi-dimensional (MD) constellations which play a pivotal role in many communication systems such as code-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (CD-NOMA). MD constellations are attractive as their structural properties, if properly designed, lead to signal space diversity and hence improved error rate performance. Unlike the existing works which mostly focus on MD constellations with large minimum Euclidean distance (MED), we look for new MD constellations with additional feature that the minimum product distance (MPD) is also large. To this end, a non-convex optimization problem is formulated and then solved by the convex-concave procedure (CCCP). Compared with the state-of-the-art literature, our proposed MD constellations lead to significant error performance enhancement over Rayleigh fading channels whilst maintaining almost the same performance over the Gaussian channels. To demonstrate their application, we also show that these MD constellations give rise to good codebooks in sparse code multiple access systems. All the obtained MD constellations can be found in https://github.com/Aureliano1/Multi-dimensional-constellation.

Towards Robust Crowdsourcing-Based Localization: A Fingerprinting Accuracy Indicator Enhanced Wireless/Magnetic/Inertial Integration Approach

The next-generation internet of things (IoT) systems have an increasingly demand on intelligent localization which can scale with big data without human perception. Thus, traditional localization solutions without accuracy metric will greatly limit vast applications. Crowdsourcing-based localization has been proven to be effective for mass-market location-based IoT applications. This paper proposes an enhanced crowdsourcing-based localization method by integrating inertial, wireless, and magnetic sensors. Both wireless and magnetic fingerprinting accuracy are predicted in real time through the introduction of fingerprinting accuracy indicators (FAI) from three levels (i.e., signal, geometry, and database). The advantages and limitations of these FAI factors and their performances on predicting location errors and outliers are investigated. Furthermore, the FAI-enhanced extended Kalman filter (EKF) is proposed, which improved the dead-reckoning (DR)/WiFi, DR/Magnetic, and DR/WiFi/Magnetic integrated localization accuracy by 30.2 %, 19.4 %, and 29.0 %, and reduced the maximum location errors by 41.2 %, 28.4 %, and 44.2 %, respectively. These outcomes confirm the effectiveness of the FAI-enhanced EKF on improving both accuracy and reliability of multi-sensor integrated localization using crowdsourced data.
