Quasinormal modes of scalar perturbations in Rastall thick brane

We investigate quasinormal modes of the graviscalar sector in a five-dimensional thick brane model in Rastall gravity. By considering a specific flat brane solution supported by a canonical scalar field, we derive a master equation and reduce it to a Schrödinger-like eigenvalue problem for the Kaluza-Klein modes. Using the Bernstein spectral method and direct integration in the frequency domain, complemented by numerical time-domain evolutions, we compute the complex quasinormal frequencies for the scalar perturbations. Our results reveal a strong dependence of the QNM spectrum on $λ$: the imaginary parts of the frequencies, governing the decay rate, decrease monotonically with increasing $λ$, indicating longer-lived modes. The real parts exhibit a more complex, non-monotonic behavior. Furthermore, we analyze the late-time behavior of the perturbations, showing that the asymptotic tail follows a power law whose exponent is determined by the Rastall parameter, in agreement with theoretical predictions for the asymptotic form of the potential. These findings provide a comprehensive dynamical characterization of the scalar sector of Rastall thick branes, offering potential observational signatures for probing modified gravity in extra-dimensional scenarios.

D-dimensional black holes in extended Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this work, we present charged spherically symmetric anti-de Sitter black hole solutions in $d$ dimensions ($d \geq 5$) within the framework of extended Gauss--Bonnet gravity. Moreover, by employing dimensional regularization of the extended Gauss--Bonnet term, we further obtain charged anti-de Sitter black hole solutions in three- and four-dimensional spacetimes. Furthermore, we also obtain a three-dimensional rotating black hole solution in a special case. These solutions contain an independent vector-sector parameter and exhibit different horizon structures compared with the standard charged Gauss--Bonnet branch. For the charged solutions, we also give a concise Iyer-Wald thermodynamic analysis. Nonetheless, their asymptotic behavior at spatial infinity remains consistent with that of the corresponding black holes in general relativity.

Quasinormal modes of thick branes in $f(R)$ gravity

We systematically investigate the quasinormal modes of thick branes in $f(R)$ gravity by numerically solving the Schrödinger-like perturbation equation of gravitational perturbations. To ensure the reliability of the results, we employ three complementary methods: the asymptotic iteration method, the direct integration of the wave equation, and the time-domain numerical evolution. We analyze how the model parameters influence the shape of the effective potential of gravitational perturbations and find that the structure of the potential barrier plays a significant role in shaping the quasinormal frequency spectrum. The results obtained from the three methods exhibit strong consistency, thereby ensuring the reliability of the calculations. In particular, the real parts of the quasinormal frequencies exhibit an approximately arithmetic progression, suggesting that the quasi-localized states can be understood as resonances between the barriers.

Evolution of Fermion Resonance in Thick Brane

In this work, we investigate numerical evolution of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of a Dirac field on a thick brane. We deduce the Dirac equation in five-dimensional spacetime, and obtain the time-dependent evolution equation and Schrödinger-like equation of the extra-dimensional component. We use the Dirac KK resonances as the initial data and study the corresponding dynamics. By monitoring the decay law of the left- and right-chiral KK resonances, we compute the corresponding lifetimes and find that there could exist long-lived KK modes on the brane. Especially, for the lightest KK resonance with a large coupling parameter and a large three momentum, it will have an extremely long lifetime.

Gravitational Echoes from Braneworlds

Gravitational echoes can be used to probe the structure of spacetime. In this paper, we investigate the gravitational echoes in different braneworld models in five-dimensional spacetime. We derive the gravitational perturbation equations of these models, and obtain the time-dependent evolution equations of the extra-dimensional and radial components. Using a Gaussian wave packet as initial data, we study the time evolution of the gravitational perturbation. By monitoring the evolution of the Gaussian wave packet, the gravitational echoes are observed whether the wave packet is generated from inside or outside the braneworld. Furthermore, we can restrict the parameters of the braneworld by calculating the strength of the first gravitational echo and using the current gravitational wave data.

Evolution of scalar field resonances in a braneworld

In this work, we investigate numerical evolution of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of a scalar field in a thick brane. We derive the Klein-Gordon equation in five dimensional spacetime, and obtain the evolution equation and the Schrödinger-like equation. With the resonances of the scalar KK modes as the initial data, the scalar field is evolved with the maximally dissipative boundary condition. The results show that there are scalar KK resonant particles with long life on the brane, which indicates that these resonances might be viewed as one of the candidates for dark matter.
