Generic Security Analysis Framework for Quantum Secure Direct Communication

Quantum secure direct communication provides a direct means of conveying secret information via quantum states among legitimate users. The past two decades have witnessed its great strides both theoretically and experimentally. However, the security analysis of it still stays in its infant. Some practical problems in this field to be solved urgently, such as detector efficiency mismatch, side-channel effect and source imperfection, are propelling the birth of a more impeccable solution. In this paper, we establish a new framework of the security analysis driven by numerics where all the practical problems may be taken into account naturally. We apply this framework to several variations of the DL04 protocol considering real-world experimental conditions. Also, we propose two optimizing methods to process the numerical part of the framework so as to meet different requirements in practice. With these properties considered, we predict the robust framework would open up a broad avenue of the development in the field.

Surface plasmon resonance under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency

A scheme for a surface plasmon resonance system under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is proposed. The system is composed of three layers: a prism, a thin metal film, and a hybrid dielectric consisting of EIT atoms and a background substance. A probe and a coupling laser beam are input. Corresponding analytical formulas are derived for the cases when one or both of the laser beams excite surface plasmon polaritons at the metal/dielectric interface. Under resonance conditions, an extremely sharp dip appears in the reflectivity-frequency spectrum of the probe field, revealing new properties of two-dimensional EIT. The reflectivity is extremely sensitive to shifts in the laser frequencies and atomic levels, and to variations of permittivity of the substrate. This EIT-SPR system may to be used for novel magnetometers and biosensors.

Quantum Left-handed metamaterial with superconducting quantum interference devices

A scheme of left-handed metamaterial (LHM) composed of superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) and conducting wires is proposed. The permeability of a probe field can be smoothly tuned over a wide range with another electromagnetic (coupling) field due to quantum interference effect. Similar to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of atomic systems, the absorption of the probe field can be strongly suppressed even in the case of negative permeability. There are two passbands of negative refractive index with low loss, which can be tuned with the coupling field.
