CAPO: Critic-Guided Action-Aligned Policy Optimization for Advancing LLM Agent Capabilities

Reinforcement learning (RL) has become a key technique for improving the agentic capabilities of large language models (LLMs). Although critic-free methods such as GRPO are increasingly popular, we argue that critic-based methods remain well suited to long-horizon agentic tasks because their critic models can assess each state and assign credit to different decisions. However, representative critic-based methods such as PPO still organize value estimation, credit assignment, and policy updates at token granularity, whereas the environment state changes only after the agent completes a full action. In this work, we propose CAPO, a critic-guided action-aligned policy optimization method for advancing LLM agent capabilities. CAPO introduces two action-aligned designs. First, it estimates the state value at the action boundary using a critic model and assigns the corresponding advantage to the complete action rather than individual tokens. Second, CAPO introduces a novel action-aware policy ratio that aggregates token ratios within each action with length calibration for consistent updates across actions of different lengths. These two designs effectively achieve fine-grained credit assignment and consistent policy updates while remaining compatible with token-level gradient computation. Experiments across multi-hop QA, academic paper search, and text-world action tasks show that CAPO consistently outperforms representative RL methods. Further analyses validate both designs and reveal how action-aligned optimization improves multi-turn RL training. We hope this work provides a practical path for training more capable LLM agents.

Detecting Fake News on Social Media: A Novel Reliability Aware Machine-Crowd Hybrid Intelligence-Based Method

Fake news on social media platforms poses a significant threat to societal systems, underscoring the urgent need for advanced detection methods. The existing detection methods can be divided into machine intelligence-based, crowd intelligence-based, and hybrid intelligence-based methods. Among them, hybrid intelligence-based methods achieve the best performance but fail to consider the reliability issue in detection. In light of this, we propose a novel Reliability Aware Hybrid Intelligence (RAHI) method for fake news detection. Our method comprises three integral modules. The first module employs a Bayesian deep learning model to capture the inherent reliability within machine intelligence. The second module uses an Item Response Theory (IRT)-based user response aggregation to account for the reliability in crowd intelligence. The third module introduces a new distribution fusion mechanism, which takes the distributions derived from both machine and crowd intelligence as input, and outputs a fused distribution that provides predictions along with the associated reliability. The experiments on the Weibo dataset demonstrate the advantages of our method. This study contributes to the research field with a novel RAHI-based method, and the code is shared at https://github.com/Kangwei-g/RAHI. This study has practical implications for three key stakeholders: internet users, online platform managers, and the government.

A Hybrid Multi-Factor Network with Dynamic Sequence Modeling for Early Warning of Intraoperative Hypotension

Intraoperative hypotension (IOH) prediction using past physiological signals is crucial, as IOH may lead to inadequate organ perfusion and significantly elevate the risk of severe complications and mortality. However, current methods often rely on static modeling, overlooking the complex temporal dependencies and the inherently non-stationary nature of physiological signals. We propose a Hybrid Multi-Factor (HMF) network that formulates IOH prediction as a dynamic sequence forecasting task, explicitly capturing both temporal dependencies and physiological non-stationarity. We represent signal dynamics as multivariate time series and decompose them into trend and seasonal components, enabling separate modeling of long-term and periodic variations. Each component is encoded with a patch-based Transformer to balance computational efficiency and feature representation. To address distributional drift from evolving signals, we introduce a symmetric normalization mechanism. Experiments on both public and real-world clinical datasets show that HMF significantly outperforms competitive baselines. We hope HMF offers new insights into IOH prediction and ultimately promotes safer surgical care. Our code is available at https://github.com/Mingyue-Cheng/HMF.

RCC-Dual-GAN: An Efficient Approach for Outlier Detection with Few Identified Anomalies

Outlier detection is an important task in data mining and many technologies have been explored in various applications. However, due to the default assumption that outliers are non-concentrated, unsupervised outlier detection may not correctly detect group anomalies with higher density levels. As for the supervised outlier detection, although high detection rates and optimal parameters can usually be achieved, obtaining sufficient and correct labels is a time-consuming task. To address these issues, we focus on semi-supervised outlier detection with few identified anomalies, in the hope of using limited labels to achieve high detection accuracy. First, we propose a novel detection model Dual-GAN, which can directly utilize the potential information in identified anomalies to detect discrete outliers and partially identified group anomalies simultaneously. And then, considering the instances with similar output values may not all be similar in a complex data structure, we replace the two MO-GAN components in Dual-GAN with the combination of RCC and M-GAN (RCC-Dual-GAN). In addition, to deal with the evaluation of Nash equilibrium and the selection of optimal model, two evaluation indicators are created and introduced into the two models to make the detection process more intelligent. Extensive experiments on both benchmark datasets and two practical tasks demonstrate that our proposed approaches (i.e., Dual-GAN and RCC-Dual-GAN) can significantly improve the accuracy of outlier detection even with only a few identified anomalies. Moreover, compared with the two MO-GAN components in Dual-GAN, the network structure combining RCC and M-GAN has greater stability in various situations.

Abnormal Resistance Switching Behaviors of NiO Thin Films: Possible Occurrence of Simultaneous Formation and Rupture of Conducting Channels

We report the detailed current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of resistance switching in NiO thin films. In unipolar resistance switching, it is commonly believed that conducting filaments will rupture when NiO changes from a low resistance to a high resistance state. However, we found that this resistance switching can sometimes show abnormal behavior during voltage- and current-driven I-V measurements. We used the random circuit breaker network model to explain how abnormal switching behaviors could occur. We found that this resistance change can occur via a series of avalanche processes, where conducting filaments could be formed as well as ruptured.
