Strong convergence rate of the Euler scheme for SDEs driven by additive rough fractional noises

The strong convergence rate of the Euler scheme for SDEs driven by additive fractional Brownian motions is studied, where the fractional Brownian motion has Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac13,\frac12)$ and the drift coefficient is not required to be bounded. The Malliavin calculus, the rough path theory and the $2$D Young integral are utilized to overcome the difficulties caused by the low regularity of the fractional Brownian motion and the unboundedness of the drift coefficient. The Euler scheme is proved to have strong order $2H$ for the case that the drift coefficient has bounded derivatives up to order three and have strong order $H+\frac12$ for linear cases. Numerical simulations are presented to support the theoretical results.

Optimal convergence rate of modified Milstein scheme for SDEs with rough fractional diffusions

We combine the rough path theory and stochastic backward error analysis to develop a new framework for error analysis on numerical schemes. Based on our approach, we prove that the almost sure convergence rate of the modified Milstein scheme for stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative multidimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac14,\frac12)$ is $(2H-\frac12)^-$ for sufficiently smooth coefficients, which is optimal in the sense that it is consistent with the result of the corresponding implementable approximation of the Lévy area of fractional Brownian motion. Our result gives a positive answer to the conjecture proposed in [11] for the case $H\in(\frac13,\frac12)$, and reveals for the first time that numerical schemes constructed by a second-order Taylor expansion do converge for the case $H\in(\frac14,\frac13]$.

Super-convergence analysis on exponential integrator for stochastic heat equation driven by additive fractional Brownian motion

In this paper, we consider the strong convergence order of the exponential integrator for the stochastic heat equation driven by an additive fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac12,1)$. By showing the strong order one of accuracy of the exponential integrator under appropriote assumptions, we present the first super-convergence result in temporal direction on full discretizations for stochastic partial differential equations driven by infinite dimensional fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac12,1)$. The proof is a combination of Malliavin calculus, the $L^p(Ω)$-estimate of the Skorohod integral and the smoothing effect of the Laplacian operator.

From High-Entropy Ceramics to Compositionally-Complex Ceramics: A Case Study of Fluorite Oxides

Using fluorite oxides as an example, this study broadens high-entropy ceramics (HECs) to compositionally-complex ceramics (CCCs) or multi-principal cation ceramics (MPCCs) to include medium-entropy and/or non-equimolar compositions. Nine compositions of compositionally-complex fluorite oxides (CCFOs) with the general formula of (Hf1/3Zr1/3Ce1/3)1-x(Y1/2X1/2)xO2-delta (X = Yb, Ca, and Gd; x = 0.4, 0.148, and 0.058) are fabricated. The phase stability, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivities are measured. Compared with yttria-stabilized zirconia, these CCFOs exhibit increased cubic phase stability and reduced thermal conductivity, while retaining high Young's modulus (~210 GPa) and nanohardness (~18 GPa). Moreover, the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity in the non-equimolar CCFOs shows an amorphous-like behavior. In comparison with their equimolar high-entropy counterparts, the medium-entropy non-equimolar CCFOs exhibit even lower thermal conductivity (k) while maintaining high modulus (E), thereby achieving higher E/k ratios. These results suggest a new direction to achieve thermally-insulative yet stiff CCCs (MPCCs) via exploring non-equimolar and/or medium-entropy compositions.

Optimal Strong Convergence Rate of a Backward Euler Type Scheme for the Cox--Ingersoll--Ross Model Driven by Fractional Brownian Motion

In this paper, we investigate the optimal strong convergence rate of numerical approximations for the Cox--Ingersoll--Ross model driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(1/2,1)$. To deal with the difficulties caused by the unbounded diffusion coefficient, we study an auxiliary equation based on Lamperti transformation. By means of Malliavin calculus, we prove that the backward Euler scheme applied to this auxiliary equation ensures the positivity of the numerical solution, and is of strong order one. Furthermore, a numerical approximation for the original model is obtained and converges with the same order.

Stochastic modified equations for symplectic methods applied to rough Hamiltonian systems based on the Wong--Zakai approximation

We investigate the stochastic modified equation which plays an important role in the stochastic backward error analysis for explaining the mathematical mechanism of a numerical method. The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, we construct a new type of stochastic modified equation, which is a perturbation of the Wong--Zakai approximation of the rough differential equation. For a symplectic method applied to a rough Hamiltonian system, the associated stochastic modified equation is proved to have a Hamiltonian formulation. Second, the pathwise convergence order of the truncated modified equation to the numerical method is obtained by techniques in the rough path theory. Third, if increments of noises are simulated by truncated random variables, we show that the one-step error can be made exponentially small with respect to the time step size. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical results.

Strong convergence of numerical discretizations for semilinear stochastic evolution equations driven by multiplicative white noise

For semilinear stochastic evolution equations whose coefficients are more general than the classical global Lipschitz, we present results on the strong convergence rates of numerical discretizations. The proof of them provides a new approach to strong convergence analysis of numerical discretizations for a large family of second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations driven by space-time white noises. We apply these results to the stochastic advection-diffusion-reaction equation with a gradient term and multiplicative white noise, and show that the strong convergence rate of a fully discrete scheme constructed by spectral Galerkin approximation and explicit exponential integrator is exactly $\frac12$ in space and $\frac14$ in time. Compared with the optimal regularity of the mild solution, it indicates that the spetral Galerkin approximation is superconvergent and the convergence rate of the exponential integrator is optimal. Numerical experiments support our theoretical analysis.

Strong convergence rate of Runge--Kutta methods and simplified step-$N$ Euler schemes for SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motions

This paper focuses on the strong convergence rate of both Runge--Kutta methods and simplified step-$N$ Euler schemes for stochastic differential equations driven by multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motions with $H\in(\frac12,1)$. Based on the continuous dependence of both stage values and numerical schemes on driving noises, order conditions of Runge--Kutta methods are proposed for the optimal strong convergence rate $2H-\frac12$. This provides an alternative way to analyze the convergence rate of explicit schemes by adding `stage values' such that the schemes are comparable with Runge--Kutta methods. Taking advantage of this technique, the optimal strong convergence rate of simplified step-N Euler scheme is obtained, which gives an answer to a conjecture in $[3]$ when $H\in(\frac12,1)$. Numerical experiments verify the theoretial convergence rate.

Optimal Regularity of Stochastic Evolution Equations in M-type 2 Banach Spaces

In this paper, we prove the well-posedness and op- timal trajectory regularity for the solution of stochastic evolution equations driven by general multiplicative noises in martingale type 2 Banach spaces. The main idea of our method is to combine the approach in [HL] dealing with Hilbert setting and a version of Burkholder inequality in M-type 2 Banach space. Applying our main results to the stochastic heat equation gives a positive an- swer to an open problem proposed in [JR12].

Symplectic Runge-Kutta Methods for Hamiltonian Systems Driven by Gaussian Rough Paths

We consider Hamiltonian systems driven by multi-dimensional Gaussian processes in rough path sense, which include fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H\in(1/4,1/2]$. We indicate that the phase flow preserves the symplectic structure almost surely and this property could be inherited by symplectic Runge--Kutta methods, which are implicit methods in general. If the vector fields belong to $Lip^{\gamma}$, we obtain the solvability of Runge--Kutta methods and the pathwise convergence rates. For linear and skew symmetric vector fields, we focus on the midpoint scheme to give corresponding results. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical analysis.
