Topological computation of some Stokes phenomena on the affine line

Let $\mathcal M$ be a holonomic algebraic $\mathcal D$-module on the affine line, regular everywhere including at infinity. Malgrange gave a complete description of the Fourier-Laplace transform $\widehat{\mathcal M}$, including its Stokes multipliers at infinity, in terms of the quiver of $\mathcal M$. Let $F$ be the perverse sheaf of holomorphic solutions to $\mathcal M$. By the irregular Riemann-Hilbert correspondence, $\widehat{\mathcal M}$ is determined by the enhanced Fourier-Sato transform $F^\curlywedge$ of $F$. Our aim here is to recover Malgrange's result in a purely topological way, by computing $F^\curlywedge$ using Borel-Moore cycles. In this paper, we also consider some irregular $\mathcal M$'s, like in the case of the Airy equation, where our cycles are related to steepest descent paths.

Good lattices of algebraic connections

We construct a logarithmic model of connections on smooth quasi-projective $n$-dimensional geometrically irreducible varieties defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$. It consists of a good compactification of the variety together with $(n+1)$ lattices on it which are stabilized by log differential operators, and compute algebraically de Rham cohomology. The construction is derived from the existence of good Deligne-Malgrange lattices, a theorem of Kedlaya and Mochizuki which consists first in eliminating the turning points. Moreover, we show that a logarithmic model obtained in this way, called a good model, yields a formula predicted by Michael Groechenig, computing the class of the characteristic variety of the underlying D-module in the $K$-theory group of the variety.

Irregular Hodge theory

We introduce a category of possibly irregular holonomic D-modules which can be endowed in a canonical way with an irregular Hodge filtration. Mixed Hodge modules with their Hodge filtration naturally belong to this category, as well as their twist by $\expφ$ for any meromorphic function $φ$. This category is stable by various standard functors, which produce many more filtered objects. The irregular Hodge filtration satisfies the $E_1$-degeneration property by a projective morphism. This generalizes some results proved by Esnault-Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1302.4537 and Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1406.1339. We also show that those rigid irreducible holonomic D-modules on the complex projective line whose local formal monodromies have eigenvalues of absolute value one, are equipped with such an irregular Hodge filtration in a canonical way, up to a shift of the filtration. In a chapter written jointly with Jeng-Daw~Yu, we make explicit the case of irregular mixed Hodge structures, for which we prove in particular a Thom-Sebastiani formula.

A remark on the irregularity complex

We prove that, for a good meromorphic flat bundle with poles along a divisor with normal crossings, the restriction of the irregularity complex to each natural stratum of this divisor only depends on the formal flat bundle along this stratum. This answers a question raised by J.-B. Teyssier. This version takes into account the published erratum.

Relative Riemann-Hilbert correspondence in dimension one

We prove that, on a Riemann surface, the functor $\mathrm{RH}^S$ constructed in a previous work as a right quasi-inverse of the solution functor from the bounded derived category of regular relative holonomic modules to that of relative constructible complexes satisfies the left quasi-inverse property in a generic sense.

Hodge theory of the middle convolution

We compute the behaviour of Hodge data by tensor product with a unitary rank-one local system and middle convolution by a Kummer unitary rank-one local system for an irreducible variation of polarized complex Hodge structure on a punctured complex affine line. We give applications of these formulas to local systems with G_2-monodromy.

Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for mixed twistor D-Modules

We introduce the notion of regularity for a relative holonomic $\mathcal D$-module in the sense of arXiv:1204.1331. We prove that the solution functor from the bounded derived category of regular relative holonomic modules to that of relative constructible complexes is essentially surjective by constructing a right quasi-inverse functor. When restricted to relative $\mathcal D$-modules underlying a regular mixed twistor $\mathcal D$-module, this functor satisfies the left quasi-inverse property.

E_1-degeneration of the irregular Hodge filtration (with an appendix by Morihiko Saito)

For a regular function f on a smooth complex quasi-projective variety, J.-D. Yu introduced in arXiv:1203.2338 a filtration (the irregular Hodge filtration) on the de Rham complex with twisted differential d+df, extending a definition of Deligne in the case of curves. In this article, we show the degeneration at E_1 of the spectral sequence attached to the irregular Hodge filtration, by using the method of arXiv:0804.4328. We also make explicit the relation with a complex introduced by M. Kontsevich and give details on its proof of the corresponding E_1 degeneration, by reduction to characteristic p, when the pole divisor of the function is reduced with normal crossings. In Appendix E, M. Saito gives a different proof of the latter statement with a possibly non reduced normal crossing pole divisor.

Kontsevich's conjecture on an algebraic formula for vanishing cycles of local systems

For a local system and a function on a smooth complex algebraic variety, we give a proof of a conjecture of M. Kontsevich on a formula for the vanishing cycles using the twisted de Rham complex of the formal microlocalization of the corresponding locally free sheaf with integrable connection having regular singularity at infinity. We also prove its local version, which may be viewed as a natural generalization of a result of E. Brieskorn in the isolated singularity case. We then generalize these to the case of the de Rham complexes of regular holonomic D-modules where we have to use the tensor product with a certain sheaf of formal microlocal differential operators instead of the formal completion.

On the de Rham complex of mixed twistor D-modules

Given a complex manifold S, we introduce for each complex manifold X a t-structure on the bounded derived category of C-constructible complexes of O_S-modules on X x S. We prove that the de Rham complex of a holonomic D_{XxS/S}-module which is O_S-flat as well as its dual object is perverse relatively to this t-structure. This result applies to mixed twistor D-modules.

Introduction to Stokes structures

The purpose of these lectures is to introduce the notion of a Stokes-perverse sheaf as a receptacle for the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for holonomic D-modules. They develop the original idea of P. Deligne in dimension one, and make it enter the frame of perverse sheaves. They also give a first step for a general definition in higher dimension, and make explicit particular cases of the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence, relying on recent results of T. Mochizuki.

We prove an algebraic formula, conjectured by M. Kontsevich, for computing the monodromy of the vanishing cycles of a regular function on a smooth complex algebraic variety.

Wild Hodge theory and Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence [after T. Mochizuki]

T. Mochizuki constructs a theory of variations of wild Hodge structure for which the underlying flat connection can have irregular singularities at infinity. He extends in this way the correspondence of Corlette and Simpson between irreducible flat bundles and stables Higgs bundles, taking into account objects with irregular singularities. As an application, he proves a conjecture of Kashiwara concerning a generalization of the Hard Lefschetz theorem when the coefficients are the de Rham complex of a simple holonomic D-module on smooth complex projective variety.

Non-commutative Hodge structures

This article gives a survey of recent results on a generalization of the notion of a Hodge structure. The main example is related to the Fourier-Laplace transform of a variation of polarizable Hodge structure on the punctured affine line, like the Gauss-Manin systems of a proper or tame algebraic function on a smooth quasi-projective variety. Variations of non-commutative Hodge structures often occur on the tangent bundle of Frobenius manifolds, giving rise to a tt* geometry.
